Zones Color Changes Randomly

I just loaded the Steam version of SC4 Deluxe onto my new PC laptop. It's fully capable of running the game and the specs are way over the min. requirements.

The problem is, when I zone districts the zone colors change! For example, if I zone a blue commercial spot and then zone a green res spot next to it... the colors change on the commercial zones randomly from blue to green or vice versa. It doesn't change the zone type, just the color. I've removed ALL plugins and tested it with different resolutions but I can not fix it.

Any thoughts?

Sometimes it's something about your game graphic, but i can't explain no further.

I'll let the other ST Forum member who expert in graphic to deal with this.

Anyway, what type of rendering mode are you using, sir..??

Go into the controls for your GPU and make sure that all the 3D options are set to "application selected" or equivalent wording. Beyond that, deponent sayeth naught.

Don't mention it. Try switching it to software rendering and see if that change anything. If not, stay in hardware mode and follow what Nonny instructed. It's only a matter of graphic setting.

I've tested it in software mode and that did not fix the problem so I'll have to try the other suggestion. Thank you though.

Dont forget to check your GPU 3D setting, just like Nonny suggested.

I went into the graphics settings and adjusted the 3D tools to application selected but that did not fix the problem. I've been trying all of it in Hardware rendering.

Well, you'll get funny results with any HD textures you have, but try it with software rendering. You can do it by just putting this option on your shortcut command line: -d:software. Don't forget the leading space in front of the hyphen (-).

So when I added the cmd to the prompt it loads the region but crashes to the desktop when I load an individual map.

Did you get the syntax right. The required format is:

quoted command name <one space> command(s) separated by spaces. Here is an example (mine):

"C:/Program Files/Maxis/SimCity 4 Deluxe/Apps/SimCity 4.exe" -intro:off -CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32 -d:software -f -CPUcount:1

If your syntax is OK, please post the first 20 lines only of your latest file in SimCity 4/Exception Reports with an extension of .txt

Yeah, I had it correctly with the spacing. I'm going to wipe the entire system and start from scratch to see if I can fix what might be an anomaly.

Once I get everything back up and running I will try to find those exception reports and post those.

Happy New Year everyone!

Victory is mine.... after 5 hours of working on it! I completely wiped the new laptop and started from scratch. Once I had the OS and drivers reinstalled, I set the graphics card to "Application Settings" again and loaded Steam + SC4 Deluxe. Upon launching I set the rendering to software again, set shadows to low and everyhing else to high, plus clicking on 32b. I closed, relaunched the game, tested it and BOOM! FIXED!

After that I later found that I had to go into the "Launch Options" in Steam to ensure I could add my extras like widescreen resloution, no intro, etc.

It was a very time consuming learning experience but it is complete and I have an operational game in software mode that works!
