    update.jpg

    Lets talk about Plympton City.

    This city has been annoying the hell out of me over the past few days. It is now a low wealth city with minimal education, health but it does have water and power. High tech industry is growing same with higher wealth commercial business. I believe the last two are influenced by Adelaide Cities high educated sims. Any heres a shot of Main South Road just so you can some of the development::

    4.jpg

    Not too bad really. But the issue is with new housing, lately apartments. Once they build they take a very long time to find jobs, usually they dont find jobs and a NJZ (No Job Zot) appears. When I look into the properties of the distressed appartment I notice commute is long. He is a pick of a appartment who has some jobs and complains of long commute.

    5.jpg

    You notice it really doesnt have to travel far for jobs but it still complains of long commute. Here is a shot of a nearby appartment which travels similiar distances but with short commute::

    6.jpg

    Now you maybe wondering that there might not be enough jobs but I surrounding shops are getting distressed becuase of lack of employees. I could zone more commerce but I dont think that will help majorly. I'm not sure what the problem is but i did read elsewhere sometimes the game can take several months to work out where jobs are and how to get to them. But these appartments have been having this behaviour for several years on and off. If you want stats and information on the buildings and commute, etc just ask I will be more then happy to provide them.

    Plympton

    So far things are progressing nicely with a balance between jobs and residence working out fine. But I am keeping a close eye on developments, but I'm finding time is the key with this region.

    Adelaide City Update::

    Again things are progressing, a little slowly though. Just like Plympton I am taking things slowly when it comes to abandonments. But I find they are finding jobs over time. Population has also reached over 100,000. The Glenelg Tramline is also being used alot, though I am not sure where another train station is for them to get of. I think I put one in Plympton.

    The percentage has doubled since this shot was taken::
    35.jpg

    The new trams. There are plans in real life to replace the tram system to a light rail system. But I am a little hazy on the details so if someone has more information please feel free to post it.

    Heres an update to the tramline station, this time more open and supports and extra 1000 people. I cant remember where I got it from but thanks to the creater, who ever that may be.

    37.jpg

    It took nearly 6 game months for the transport map to update with this station. With other regions in the past a transport update usually took around 1-2 months. If the game is taking 6 months to do this update, could this be the reason why the sims arent finding jobs quick enough?? What are peoples ideas, opinions on this. 42.gif

    looking good, I'm over the whole realistic thing but in Plympton wheres the main south road? I thought the diagonal one was Anzac Hwy, but I'm not sure.

    update.jpg

    Hey peoples time for an update on the happenings of this marvellous Australian city. Oh I'm talking the sim version, not much is happening in the real city from as far as I know, but if anyone knows anything please tell. 9.gif

    Stats::

    Region:: Adelaide City
    Population:: 169,970

    City:: Adelaide City
    Population:: 128,562
    City Funds:: $24 million

    City:: Findon
    Population:: 16,277
    City Funds:: $1.7 million

    City:: Plympton
    Population:: 25,131
    City Funds:: $5.7 million

    Issues of the past::

    Taxes and lack of jobs were the thing of the past in Adelaide City with taxes now at a resonable level and demand slowly rising and dropping when needed. Growth is strong and hopefully with the starting of other cities it will grow stronger.

    Heights of Buildings::

    In the real city of Adelaide height restrictions of buildings are in place. With the known maximum height of 115 metres. The tallest building in Adelaide currently is 135 metres, this building exceeds the restriction by 20 metres and by the looks of it will be the tallest building for quite some time. The height limits in the city are placed in areas of the city to create the traditional pyramid effect, though it may change.  This is in the CBD though, in North Adelaide height restrictions are even tighter due to flight paths into Adelaide's Airport, west of the CBD. So throughout the game density levels will be placed appropriately to show these restrictions. North Adelaide will comprimise of mainly low and medium density's with the CBD mainly medium and high density's. Also you may notice some small parts alongside main roads have a higher density, this is to help with demand.

    On with the show, its time for a picture spam::
    Lets start with the smallest city in population:

    Looking good dude....I'm truely impressed. I know you can't make it perfectly to scale or exact, to all those people out there that want to criticize this for those reasons. But I think it's pretty damn good so far.

    Keep up the good work dude. Maybe post some more pics of graphs and charts detailing pollution, transport methods ect...

    Looks like the project is going very well. The population you have now is pretty accurate as to the area that you have covered. I never knew that South Road had skyscrapers along it though.9.gif

    I would suggest you start placing some Landmarks maybe, like churches, university, Art Museum ect.

    Have you started on the Botanic Gardens yet?

    Or the zoo?...maybe make a zoo lot?

    Yes I should start placing landmark buildings, and work out where the zoo and bontanical gardens is in the game.

    Though in real life skyscrapers arent along South Road it does show there could be a demand for it.

    Looks like there's alot of pollution on Adelaide's roads. Findon's crime chart looks like teeth in my opinion! I see your testing out that translucent water? Is it working well? Great cj btw

    lol, thats why I posted Findon's crime chart. It has an interesting teeth look to it. Adelaide's roads are not too bad, and I'm not going to enable any ordinance just yet.

    I have used the transparent water and it doesnt look too bad but now I am trying out different coloured water. Like in some screenies there is a dark green colour which looks quite similiar to the Torrens I think. But I might try the dark blue one as well. 9.gif

    The years really dont matter, but I do think the CBD is around 180 years old. This was cause I left it to run for a while so it would grow, and it did. But now things have died down a little and new zones arent growing as quickly. But give it time and also the starting and finishing of suburbian cities, i think it will be fine. Though most of them buildings are taller then the real thing it does show what Adelaide is capable of. But you may notice there is alot less medium size buildings in CBD, compared to the real thing which has lots of medium sized buildings. Which shows the larger buildings are soaking up the demand. Maybe that is my first mistake, zoning high density too early. I reckon the CBD will look excellent when this city is finished though. 9.gif9.gif9.gif I also look forward to doing Glenelg cause its like a mini CBD.

    But the big buildings in Glenelg are residential, except for a few hotels (like 2) so it is a mini cbd, very mini, jetty road has a few small shops and stuff, but yeah, i live in Glenelg so i hope to see it soon!

    Yes Glenelg will be good to do, it is one of the major centres next to the CBD. I'm not sure what major centres are up north but Marion and Noarlunga Centre are also major centres down south.

    But anyways no updates will appear until the end of the week as I'm not home and I'm using computers that cant handle simcity 8.gif But I will be in the chat room or in msn messenger if you have any questions or queries.

    Maybe I should start working on Hobart (I am a Tasmanian!) to keep up the southern hemisphere numbers.
