OMG YES!!!!18.gif44.gif40.gif35.gif35.gif35.gif

I love Adelaide! I am so glad someone is doing this!!!! The city is so pretty, Spring is my fav. time to go!

Adelaide is an elegant city, framed by parklands, hills and sea. It is a city in the best of tastes, from its hundreds of restaurants to its dazzling arts festivals. A city with cafes and designer shops lining its wide streets, provides, for more than a million people, a relaxed and easy-paced lifestyle for all to enjoy. Adelaide is a place where you are twenty minutes from the serenity of the Adelaide Hills or from a beach watching the sunlight sparkling on the sea.

The Highest Building there (Santos House) is the tallest building in S. Australia since 1988... It exceeds city's height limit by 20 metres.

GOOD LUCK! I love this city!36.gif

    Thanks for the nice commments. I am going to try my best at making a realistic city but so far the problem I'm having is with scaling of the roads. But I think I am getting them quite well, its just some roads are not properly done yet. Oh well more time needs to be spent on it before I can start zoning.

    If people look at the web links I have listed in my first post there are loads of photos of this beautiful city, please take a look they wont disapoint you, Adelaide is a truly beautiful city despite what others say. 9.gif

    Enjoy.

    lol 17.gif

    I'll see how go and I may add a sign naming your house. Pity I'm not living in Adelaide or I would place a sign of my house. I actually thought about doing my area Im living in at the moment, the Murray Lands but maybe later when this city is near completion.

    I will be reinstalling my machine later today since I just bought a larger hard disk. So wish me luck and I that I dont lose this great city. But I do have confidence in my self so I dont think I will lose anything.

    Great to see someone doing my hometown. :) Would love to see how it turns out. The Adelaide City area looks huge compared to the surrounding area than it does in real life! Don't forget to include the tram line to Glenelg from Victoria Square or the rail lines to Gawler, Port Adelaide and Grange (Woodville), Belair (Urrbrae) and Noralunga and Tonsley (Plympton). Got any ideas on how to do the O-bahn?

    The following buildings I suggest to be made for Adelaide in BAT:
    Santos House
    Grenfell Centre
    City Central Tower 1

    There's probably more that I have forgotten.

    Yes the train lines are going to be interesting to do, they may even effect how the current road system is now. Even for a poor train system that is in adelaide, its still going to be added. The O'bahn, im not really sure how I'm going to do that.

    I do agree that the region looks large compared to real life, I especially thought that before I started laying roads. I found that the CBD itself is perfect size in the game but all the other cities I think are a little large, but do remember each city area is made up of many suburbs. But it does make up for the missing areas of Noarlunga and Elizabeth.

    I have already made a request for the Festival Centre, but I dont think I need a convention centre as the one in the game looks quite similiar to the real life one. As for the other towers they are good ideas I may have to ask for them too, especially Santos. Maybe the bontanical gardens building wood be good aswell.

    The region was created using Scracc, and excellent program for basic regions. But I did spend about two days going into each city cleaning up the terrain and adding hills, etc. The road system is trying to match the street directory of Adelaide City, this city is said to be one of the best layed out cities. So lets see how Simcity copes with its design. One things to note is Adelaide doesnt have many highways/freeways. It does have a expressway which is not in this region, that expressway heads south down to Noarlunga and it rotates its direction during the day. Other than that it has two highways which really are just avenues one heading to Glenelg and the other up north. So the only true freeway/highway is the South Eastern Freeway in Urrbrae which heads towards the Adelaide Hills and Melbourne.

    EDIT:: Added answer for sc4ky

    update.jpg

    Heres another updated transport map, this time adding the train lines. I believe I have done a good job in getting them in though not 100% accurate they are heading to the correct areas. Also the lone train line heading from the middle of the city to Glenelg is a tram line but since this game does not have tram lines I used a train system. Also going from the upper right of Adelaide City through to the Windsor Gardens city is the Adelaide O'bahn, again this feature is not in the game so im not really sure what I can use to replace it. Any suggestions would be great on this issue.

    Is there only one highway in Adelaide, it always struck me as a very large and bustling city. What's the population of the real-life city approximately? Will you be looking to mirror this number?

    landmark.jpg

    Adelaides estimated population is around 1.1million. Currently the state government is aiming for 2 million by 2013 or so, it will be interesting to see if that happens. I will most likely keep my population level around the same but I cant be sure since many things can happen, but to note most of the surrounding areas/citys in Adelaide are just suburbia housing.

    The highway that is officially marked in the simcity transport map is the South Eastern Freeway which provides access to the Adelaide Hills (Stirling, Hahndorf, Mt Barker) and the Murraylands (Murray Bridge, Mannum, Tailem Bend). The tunnels that you can just see on the region view look like this in real life::

    Heading towards Adelaide::
    heysentunnel_01.jpg

    Leaving Adelaide, towards Melbourne::
    heysentunnel_09.jpg

    And here is a shot of a onramp just before the tunnels (these arent in the game), facing towards Adelaide::

    heysentunnel_06.jpg

    Other freeways/highways/expressways in Adelaide include Anzac Highway shown as a avenue heading towards glenelg. Though Port Rd is not a true highway,etc it is shown as a avenue heading upwards towards Woodville, I believe though not certain the Port River Expressway links up to this road up near Port Adelaide which is further up north. This expressway is currently undergoing expansion and upgrades to cope with a higher load of freight. Also down south, an area not shown in the region is the Southern Expressway which goes from Marion to Noarlunga. Marion is just below my Plympton city. This expressway rotates direction during the day as part of its traffic control. All the rest of the roads in Adelaide are main roads, such as South Road and Marion Road. Most these main roads are actually rising in congestion so I believe over the next few years changes may occur to combat congestion issues. Also I will note Adelaide Public Transport system is one of the worst in Australia, but I believe there are plans to boost its quality and performance. If any one knows of any more information please do post and tell us.

    Here are some pics of parklands which I am working on, these surround the CBD:

    Here are some more screenies, this time streets and roads have been added to some of the outer fringe of the CBD, I have also marked some of the suburbs in these areas.

    update.jpg

    The cbd transport grid is completed for the time being, some parks have also been placed but not completed. Though not to true life a power plant will be built on the outskirts of the CBD area for the short term. That will be until I organise some proper plants to be built with power to be sold. Also soon low density residential will be placed along side commerce and industrial on the outskirts of the cbd.

    update.jpg

    Just some info about how I am creating the region. First I must note that all the city names are just representations of that area in real life. So for example the city of Glenelg holds the suburbs of Glenelg, Glengowrie, Morpthettville and Novar Gardens. I am just using the largest or most significant suburb in each area as the city name, see this site for more information on the areas and suburbs im using, http://www.arta.com.au/samaps/adelaide/  This page may also help, http://www.realestatecentre.com.au/history/map/

    As a response to the last post, I dont usually create the roads first either but this time I had to, to help keep the realism. If you look at the first map web site above I am using that as template for the roads, though I cant make the roads perfect I am trying to keep the suburbian feel. 1.gif

    Ok first signs of development in the Adelaide City area in bottem right corner. Mainly farms, dirty industry and low wealth residential. Dont expect much for a while and slowly the farms will be removed. So welcome to early Adelaide 18.gif::

    lol Good Question 3.gif. I'm glad to say no cheats are in use but I do use mods, not cheating mods though ones that add realism. The mods include::

    Industry quadrupler
    Network Addon Mod (Better Pathfinding,High Capacity,10x Commute)
    I also modded the grass lots to a zero$, yeah I know its like cheating but there is sooo many parklands in Adelaide this city would go broke quick. But I dont think I am the only one who makes the grass lots cheap anyway 41.gif.

    Other than that I balance the cities budget. Like when I starting playing this city area there was already a montly expense of around $3000 due to the roads and streets. So I quickly zoned industry, farms and residential and 6simmonths later I am just over the $3100 in income. Hopefully with this level of development it will help boost growth in nearby cities, when they get started.

    No, I have not downloaded any landmarks for Adelaide as I dont believe there is any. I do have loads of bat requests on this page though: click here

    Lets hope some people make these buildings, places like Santos House would be amazing to add to the games skyline. 4.gif

    Beautiful photos of Adelaide you showed us there.   I think it's a good city for a recreation - large enough but not too big, balanced development density and a street layout that should be feasable with SimCity's inherent limitations.  It's going to be interesting to follw this recreation.
