New SAM idea?

Hey all,

Having recently done driving practice (okay, maybe a year ago), I was driving through industrial areas with wide streets as my baby steps.

Obviously, these streets in industrial parks are deliberately wide in order to accommodate turning trucks and heavy vehicles. So I was wondering in the sake of realism, if someone could create an override mod (in the style of SAM) as the default street, but perhaps stretching the whole tile (wide as road)?

Would like to hear your thoughts and input, and hopefully we can see this realised.

Quite possible, but...

If you're talking about creating an additional SAM network for the SAM itself, you're currently better off overriding the textures of one of the pre-existing networks.

If you're talking about overriding the default streets using a custom texture set, it's mostly the same deal, except with the default streets.

The second issue is that someone's gotta put in the time to make it for you. Frankly, the reason there's very few textural modifications out there because of the sheer number of textures to modify, and personally, just having someone do the work for you may be greatly more dissatisfying as opposed to a DIY job, where you get to learn how textural modding works.

And tutorial. http://sc4devotion.c...php?lotGET=1611

Hmm... Some questions about this:

So it's no longer possible to add to the SAM Network? So a SAM-10, SAM-11, SAM-12, etc. is no longer possible?

Some Japanese modders have made some SAM overwrites:

So even if these textures exist, is it still possible to add them as a SAM 10 or SAM - 11?

Thanks.

Yes. It's just a matter of activating a starter for one, but that's the thing. You need to create a starter.

A starter.

A false intersection.

RUL-1 modification. Something that only the NAM Team has authorisation to do if your aim is to distribute it for the public; It has to go through the NAM Team first. I honestly don't know the full details on SAM and having additional SAM stuff, but the point is, you can't just willy-nilly create a new override network without NAM Team authorisation or involvement.

So, really the easier route is to just override an existing SAM network.

-----

I just remembered some previous SAM revamping that was previously done, but that was more concerning the RUL-2 code that follows after the RUL-1 stuff.

There is a hard limit on how much stuff can be added, but most of the stuff ever added into any single RUL file doesn't even reach that.

There is another limit: How big the given range is. Most of the NAM Team's stuff is put into the IID range of 0x50000000 to 0x5FFFFFFF, meaning we have about 16^7 "slots" for stuff (268,435,456), but given wealthification and zoom level, for all intents and purposes with override networks, that number is about 1/256 of that, about a million. Why 0x5#######? Because we don't want conflicts and that was the only available range.

Then you have to subdivide that entire 0x5 range up into 16 different subranges to accommodate every single NAM project there is, such NWM and RHW. SAM was assigned to a rather funny range, part the old RHW range, because the original creator of the SAM thought the NAM was restricted to 1/16th of the the entire range.

That range is subdivided even further to accommodate all the SAM networks there will ever be, and that maximum number is 16. So any one SAM network is in 1/16th of the SAM range, which is 1/16th of the old RHW range, which is 1/16th of the entire NAM range, but since 1/256 (which is 1/16 times 1/16) is usable, there are 256 usable "slots" per SAM network.

You can go beyond 16 SAM networks, but then you'll start having conflicts with pre-existing stuff, which is why RUL modifications is done solely by the NAM Team: We know where everything is already.

Actually, we have an additional 5 SAM starters ready to go (one, Set 6, is already somewhat spoken for). They've actually been sitting around in the Controller, disabled and waiting for someone to complete a full set (and give us permission to use it), at which point we could enable them.
