So , maxis just posted on facebook that "you will be able to immortalize your sims in your cities" A.K.A you're going to be able to import your sims to your city. We're totally going to see "Joetown" "Herptown" "Helentown" etc in game now , people making cities only for their sims. My god , why maxis , why!?!?!?!!?

I don't think that's what its going to be like at all.

Here's the page.

It looks like a competition to get one of your sims included in the game. Much like they had a competition to name a restaurant.

However, they might keep the functionality on the game to import your own sims, much like SC4 did, but so far they have only said that if you submit a sim and win the contest, then it will be included.

I don't think anyone should be worrying about any "Joetowns" piping up any time soon.

It would be pretty neat to make a facsimile of myself in The Sims 3 and have him be the Mayor of Mezaton, Playa Zocorro, and Marcopolis.

Or have a rundown coal town ran by the immortal Contessa.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

I'm fine with this as long as it doesn't overtake the actual gameplay of SimCity.

In SimCity 4, you could import your sims from The Sims 1 and move them into buildings and in Rush Hour, drive their cars. Something along these lines is fine, but it should be a supplemental asset for the game.

yeah, remember the "my sim" option (was that what is was called) from SimCity 4? Did anyone else just turn it (and the u-drive it notifications) off at city start-up?

As in UDI icons? Of course! My Sims mode was kinda a gimmick for SC4, and it worked in a quasi-acceptable way. It's a secondary feature, and that's what I like about it.

The UDI feature itself is flawed but fun. Too bad you need to do some missions in rush hour in order to get perks... that's a little over the top.

UDI free drive on the other hand is awesome as it lets you explore your city in a whole'nother way. Then there's timelapse UDI Videos....

Can't help think this contest is an attempt to get Sims players interested in the new Simcity, aka thinly veiled marketing ploy.

Thing is they know about Simcity already and most if not all the Sim players I know don't like the "community features" they are trying to introduce to the Sims. Amongst those I know their concerns have pretty much mirrored most of those I've seen from the simcity community.

They can try. As mentioned, the response in the Sims crowd I know isn't already knows about it isn't any more happy with the always online and cloud saves idea than many of the Simcity fans. Many of them are angry enough with the *optional* Social features they try to push in the Sims as it is because they locked some content unless said option is used. Mind the modding community cracked that....
