Just a general consensus, what type of themed cities you like and why?

---------------------------

I suppose I should add the actual intent of this poll, enough people had voted their results. The purpose of this poll is to see if there was any bias with the activity in the city journals. Since the typical person tends to create either American cities or West European cities, all with high living standards; I suppose there is a correlation between the activity of the city journals and the specific themed city builders. Although more than half of poll four's voters had no influence in their preference, the remaining said that their ideal city does influence their preference.

Personally, I do not mind that there is a huge variety of American, European, and Japanese city journals. The only problem with this is that more attention goes towards those types of city journals with near utopian status rather than the city journals revolved in other areas of the world. This is very relevant in SC4D as the majority of the city journals that are very unique, are virtually ignored.

In general, I suppose its simply how each person can relate to an update or the factor that renders an update unique.

Your thoughts?

All your polls are incomplete. You left out the 'None of the above' option in all of them. I prefer Canadian towns.

I added the Other option to the poll. Thanks for pointing that out.

I've been to Canada a couple of times and the cities are VERY SIMILAR to American cities. Yes, there are some architectural differences, but the architecture used is similar to Philadelphia or Boston.

For me Japanese all the way. They're masters at space management and public transportation. I like dense, urban environments where everything is close together and easy to travel to. Plus I like the theme a lot.

Yep, Boston and Philadelphia were built by the British. That's the Canadian model.

    Silly Nonny.

We all know that Canada is a fictional place made up in french fairytales to scare little british children...... or is it???

Anyways i greatly prefer Americanized cities. although they usually follow the grid pattern its nice to see the gigantic Glass Jungle or the classic 1920 ArtDeco Explosion when the surrounding area's and backdrop is appropriate

Well, I've just spent a week in Halifax, and Stan Rogers was right: "Upper Canadian concrete and glass right down to the water line". In fact, some of the glass towers are actually held up by pilings driven into the water.

Beautiful city, and nothing north of the Citadel built before 1917. It was all blown away, then. The photos remind me of Hiroshima.

What about specific era themed cities... Say mid 19th century perhaps? :P

That would be under other. But since you are building 19th century American cities, I guess that would go under American. I will add a historical section to the third poll.

I'm just giving you a hard time :)

This is an interesting poll though. Thanks for posting it.

Your welcome, the intent of this poll is to see if there was any bias with the activity in the city journals. Feel free to read the first post, its a more in-depth response than this one. :)

I build American cities because they are what I know and they have a diversity of architectual styles enabling me to use a wide variety of buildings. The US is a "melting pot" and many of our buildings reflect that fact. However I find the European cities to be fascinating and visually enjoy much that they offer.

My cities are mostly experimental laboratories, with different idea in each city. That's means that my cities doesn't follow realism rules, like the need of a C.B.D. or industries in outskirts only, and they are mostly a mix of utopian and cyberpunk style. The result is something like this...

Only one option to choose in the poll? Too bad...

You put me in trouble if I have to ask only one option in all that list. All city themes have something appealing. I live in an area with a VERY clear and unified architectural style (W2W midrises virtually everywhere, except the cities' outskirts, where lowrises take the lead) and I like everything that goes out of this scheme just because it's different of what I'm used to see everyday. But also, when a player achieves to show the aforementioned style successfully, it's like "whoa, I could live there!"

Guess it's like choosing who do you love the most, mom or dad.

    Seems rather utopian.

European cities are for the most part thousands of years old, and many are developed from Roman times. The Romans liked to clone Rome, so cities like Bordeaux reflect that. Many cities that grew without the Roman influence are often derived from original villages with winding cattle tracks, switch-back roads so horses could climb hills with loaded wagons, etc. Makes for difficult traffic engineering.

I was just in St. John's NL where this is the situation. Heavily glaciated terrain with lots of steep ridges. There are many places in St. John's that you can't get to from where you are at the moment. When you know where it's at, then you have to go where it's to.

If you look closely a map of some Roman-founded cities, you should have no problem to identify the Cardo Maximus and the Decumanus Maximus streets drawing a perfect cross; on its center, there was the forum. I find it fascinating that 2000 years later, these streets keep in use. Not the original streets, of course, I mean that the "city center" is the same place that some guys thought it should be 2000 years ago.

@terring: Building something like complex you're showing in the pic would be really amazing but you know how was this game designed "let's gonna do it California style". Perhaps the new game and its ability to build curved streets allows us to do that some time.

The two Roman founded cities I know best are Burdigilia and Lutetia on the continent, and Londinium. For the non-geographers that's Bordeaux, Paris, and London. Also Rome is still running on some of the old Roman roads. When the Romans engineered a road it was forever.

I am very aware of this. I know some individuals will prefer more than one style. I did not want to add more than one choices per person on each poll because I would have received inaccurate information.

The majority of the cities I build are Middle Eastern because its a very unique and a rather challenge theme. If it was such a simple, common theme, then I would have done something different by now. Since the Middle East occasionally becomes boring, I build various of other themed cities including the more common ones. It is whatever mood I am in.

Most of my cities that I post on my CJ are North African themed, this theme doesnt really exist on Simtropolis, or in Simcity4, so I had to make many BATs to help finding it, aside using the rest of BATs from the exchange that fits well with the medeterranian style, and north african style, to do it just right.

It is also a chanllenge theme because of the lack of BATs of this theme, unlike the middle eastenrned themed cities, all you see is repetitive buildings, wich are all yellow and mostly made by frogfrace (a member on ST).

Some members get creative about it and use some colonial buildings or make beautifull middle eastern islands.

I will try to make more and more BATs to make the city theme that I use more known :D

I also like to build modern and futuristic cities that respect the environement and use clean power sources.

This is my CJ if you are interrested: https://community.simtropolis.com/journal/2613-somewhere/

Maybe you should also post yours.

    & those are my BATs:
