2012 Chat Record Breaking Attempt?

Now, before you start with the flaming, hear me out.

Last year, sometime in August, some members tried to break the Simtropolis chat record of 90 (give or take a few). To make a long story short, it failed. Miserably. In my opinion, one of the main reasons for the failure was the lack of organization of the event. It is now a new year, 2012, and since we're all going to die later this year (joking; joking...) we might as well try to break the record again.

I am not organizing the event, but merely asking who would be willing to participate, and for those willing to participate, what day of the week and time is best suited for you. Please post your time zone, as well. Obviously the event cannot be catered to work best with everyone, but finding the average time and day that works best for the majority of people will lead to a larger outcome of people in chat. And of course, there's the option that nobody wants to do this; in which case, the whole idea will be scrapped, and we can all move on with our live like nothing happened. In short, I just want your opinions.

I do not know the current chat record, so if anyone knows, could you please let me know. I don't know if 90 has been broken or not. Thanks.

NOTE: Please remember that nobody is currently organizing the event. Before anything else regarding the event in considered, let's collect this information, and then decide if the community wants to carry through with the idea. Recently, many users have had trouble entering into the chat, so this event would have to happen once these problems have been fixed, anyway.

EDIT: Yes, I would be willing to participate, Saturday is the best day for me, and around noon MST/UTC-07 is the best time of day.

Ah, bring back the sheep! Saturday might work for me; week-ends probably work the best for most people. Some time after 10 pm (central time) maybe?

Any time works for me, providing it isn't the middle of the night.

And I wouldn't say last years attempt failed miserably, a specific date and time were given, just not that many people showed up.

And yes, the sheep must return.

I think more people would have showed up if we had waited a month or two for the news to get out.

Use the day and time from the 2010 attempt: it worked so well because it managed to work for Aus/NZ (Sunday morning), Europe (Saturday night) and the Americas (Saturday evening). Without the help of all three regions, you won't even get close to breaking the record.

So to get max results, it needs to be from about 11PM Saturday GMT onward. Whatever timezone MST/UTC is, to avoid confusion just use GMT.

I agree with everything cockatoo has said. 2010 was the best organized, and gave the best results.

If everything is organized well, there is enough 'advertising' and the date and time is sorted out well in advance, a few months before, then I'll be there.

And, we will need someone to co-ordinate this. Mamaluigi, since you started the thread your most likely going to be the one that this falls onto

I agree with the above posts. We'll have to advertize this in advance, and be sure to outlaw the use of bouncing rainbow sheep as avatars.

Thanks for the response, guys. I have no problem organizing the event; I just might need some volunteers for help. Since 2010 worked the best, I will most likely schedule the event with the same day and time.

Regarding advertising, I think it's a good idea, but we can't take it too far. If we send out PMs to people, users will be receiving tons of spam PMs about the event, so I think that's a no-go. Once everything is scheduled, I'll post an article on the homepage to get the word out. We can use status updates (although no one looks at them) to get the word out, as well. Possibly, if Dirk and the admins/mods are okay with it, we can run an ad for the event on Simtropolis, in the ad section. Someone else would have to create the ad because I am not artsy, and I would have to contact Dirk and some of the admins about the idea.

Also, does anyone know if the previous record of 90 still stands?

Okay guys, I'm going to contact Dirk and some of the admins about running an ad in the ad section. Since there has been a positive response to this idea, I'm going to go ahead an organize it. The date will be Saturday, September 29^th, at 11PM GMT. I am going to post another topic with more information, the official announcement, ect.
