Doe anyone else get this traffic path finding 'problem'?

This seems to happen to me all the time, and its so annoying. Half my city street have NO traffic at all. Only freight trucks! If there is freight there must be sims commuting to work...but where have they all gone!!! In a city of this size the street would be rammed full of cars! There is an el line but most of that is unused aswell grrrrr

Maybe you have beaming technology in your city? Dang your education must be really high!

On a serious note, I have never had that issue. Are you using the NAM traffic simulator by chance?

You should also not be running old NAM files, as well as older Transit Fixes by Redlotus and the7trumpets. They are never as polished as the NAM.

Now, I don't think you're experiencing a traffic bug.

Have you used the route-query tool and checked where your residents work? They might not go to the industrial at all; all of your citizens might work in the commercial on their side of the river. Freight trucks are generated by industrial whether or not anyone works there.

And keep in mind that when you click on a building, the capacity (Jobs: 54/65) doesn't tell you how many people actually work there.

Beats me. You should check that your program is up to at least 1,1,640, and make sure you have the latest NAM without any old mods that may affect is hanging around.

I've never had this problem, ever.

Check your other traffic maps. Maybe the Sims are all using transit (really good!) :ooh:

It appears you have some other NAM railroad. Do you? Thanks- colco2121.

I have no idea why I'm getting this problem. I have it on a lot of cities. Huge built up areas, but not traffic. urgh

I use NAM but have the latest version, I have had this problem before. you it means that in theory you could have most the city with only streets which would look so unrealistic

If you have created your own traffic simulator using the Traffic Simulator Configuration Tool and selected "Park and Ride" your sims will only use public transport, if they do use cars its only to get to the nearest bus, train station, etc that has parking nearby.

from the data view seems like the streets are beeing used but they just dont work in factories. Eather you have the park and Ride on or maybe you have turned off the cars in grapfics settings?

By the looks of it, you don't have the residential population to make those jobs appealing. Sims will choose a Commercial job over an Industrial job of the same wealth and distance and having them separated by bridges doesn't help (Sims don't like looking for jobs over bridges for some reason). By the looks of it, you have a rather substantial CBD.

All the fatories are in use and if you click on them it says they are all full of workers, but no one seems to commute to them. I have car graphics on the highest setting. You can see in the street shot with the road usage no cars are there, there is also no buses, only freight trucks.

By the looks of it, you don't have the residential population to make those jobs appealing. I do have a big CBD, the traffic round there is very high aswell, but no one goes to the industry, even though every factory is fully filled with workers.

This problem is really annoying as it makes the cities work so unrealistically.

Remember that when you click on a building, the "Jobs" (59/60 or whatever) doesn't tell you how many people work there. That only tells you the number of available jobs given the current desirability circumstances versus the maximum possible. Same with sims and residential buildings.

I really just think that no one is working in those factories.

Route-query your residential buildings. Where does it show them going to work?

It may help If you have duluxe of rush hour make most roads and streets dead end at aves or upgrade alot of your roads and streets to oneways if you can. You can also build a highway. Do those 3 if you cant get sims using mass transit

I think you don't quite understand what I meant. I don't think you have enough sims in your city to make those Industrial jobs appealing. At the moment, the game is pulling jobs (I like to think of them as inter-regional commuters) out of thin air to satisfy the demand.

You should have as much Residential Population as you have Commercial and Industrial combined plus about 15%. Then keep in mind that not all of those people are of working age.

I guess it's the danger stereotype? Which is odd because IRL more accidents occur in offices than factories...

Or maybe it's the way the index numbers are in game?

having them separated by bridges doesn't help (Sims don't like looking for jobs over bridges for some reason).

Maybe another reason they disabled diagonal bridges?

So I have to assume that the industrial places are employing sims, just not ones from my cities? Its just annoying as they all have freight traffic to and from them, but thats it. I could cut the whole place off the city and it would still work. Invisible sims urgh
