I have a i have a theory i would like to put forward,

i have a city i built in 2007 and continued building it right up to 2009 then stopped. about a month ago i had a HHD error and lost my plugin fiolder so i redownloaded everything. there was about 6 buildings i could not find but this was ok for me..so here is what happens

i loaded the city and it would crash within 5 mins. so i carried out a few tests to determine what is making it crash, i removed the whole road network and kept everything else but crashed i removed the plugins and left the nam for the game but it would crash.

here is the crash report - i dont understand this, maybe someone here can?

Make sure Plugins folder is empty. Uninstall again. Then reinstall Sim City 4 + Sim City 4 Rush Hour. Then apply all the patches.

SHUT DOWN computer. Wait a while then turn your computer back on. (From personal experience the computer needs to "re-compose" itself).

Now run the game again.

I know it is a pain to do this all over again, but does the game work at least? And in the options tab, is the game running on "software"? Can you at least put the graphics options on "Low" and remove "shadows", "waves" etc.? Does it work?

It won't be easy for anyone to determine the dependencies that

your city is missing,so asking for someone to beta it is not going

to help.

The exception report is not very helpful ether.

If your able before any crash look for brownboxes or blank lots

delete them then save exit & reload the city to see if that fixed it.

If you can't find which ones your missing you are probably going

to have to start the city from scratch.

Be sure to keep a backup of the original in the case you find the

dependencies in the future.

Here is something that everyone should do. I have been doing this ever since I lost a 6 year old region that I played on at least once every two weeks. One day I put it aside and my HD crashed, had to download every plugin again and ever since I cannot enter the region anymore, it crashes when opening a citytile. So, I hit my head 25 or 30 times on the wall and an idea for future projects came to me.

Make a copy of every region after you have played on it fo awhile and keep in a folder, plus make a copy of your plugins at the same time and put it in the same folder. Errors or accidents will happen, but with a copy like this in a save place (burnt on a re-writable DVD), I will never have to hit my head on the wall again to remind me how stupid I was. ;)

Good luck

I burn my entire plugins directory to a dvd (about 3 gb). And the same with regions. If something major happens to the pc or get a new one or whatever re-installing to just the way you spent so much time making is a breeze. Just copy and paste from the disc.

Slow down. You are all going too fast. You make unwarranted assumptions.

The dump tells a lot of stories. The machine is adequate and the game is valid.

The gentleman is running the downloaded game (1,1,641) so he would have to probably redownload it. It is important not to put your situation on top of the query.

I would:

1. rename the plugins folder to plugins.old

2. start the game and pick a different region

3. run a city long enough to ensure whether a crash will occur.

If no crash occurs, further investigation is merited.

One should not take a sledge hammer to an ant.

It may truly be necessary to identify the missing plugins in the city in question, and if they cannot be found to abandon that city.

However, while everyone makes his own decisions on this, backups are always necessary. Computers are not immortal, nor are their components, and especially disk media, including CD/DVD's.

I backup everything monthly, and if I have been using the game heavily, I backup the user section as needed. My backups are on an external HDD and I have a second HDD which is mostly off line as a backup of my backup. If nothing else, you can make backups to rewritable DVDs.

But DVDs are cheap compared to the work you have to do to recover, so write your game folder (only the one in your documents area) to a DVD once a week. Don't be picky. Write the whole thing.

You only need to keep the current one and the previous two.

To make it even clearer, I'm going to point a few things out.

Exception time: 05/10/2012, at 18:37:36.

Happened two days ago at 6:37pm.

Exception code: 0xC0000005 (-1073741819) ACCESS_VIOLATION.

It's an Access Violation, the game is doing something the environment doesn't like.

Application/module path: h:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\simcity 4 deluxe\Apps\SimCity 4.exe

Application/module version: 1.1.641.0

System version: Windows NT 6.1

You're running the Download Version from Steam (Which comes pre-patched) in the x86 Program Files directory under Windows 7 64-Bit.

System memory: 4096 Megabytes total, 4096 Megabytes free.

4GB of RAM, oddly all empty. Indicates to me that it's crashing when trying to cache something big.

Exception module: h:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\simcity 4 deluxe\Apps\SimCity 4.exe.

Exception address: 0x006b126c. Section:Offset: 0x01:0x002aa26c.

Eh, not much to discern here we don't already know.

EBX: 00000000

That's a Null Pointer. From what I've read of Nonny Moose's posts, that could be causing it.

Try adding the Command Line Switch "-EH:off" (WIthout quotes) in the "Set Launch Options" box in the Properties panel of SC4 in Steam and seeing if that prevents the crashing. Keep in mind that this change only prevents the game's error handler berking out, it doesn't stop the error from happening and the game may still crash if it's severe enough. Also keep in mind that there's a chance of the game freezing or crashing when saving when it hits the error. This crashing on save will not affect your previous save in any way.
