So , i had this idea some time back (20 minutes) and i thought of sharing it with the community and , if god exists , maxis sees this.

So , my idea is that , when you start a singleplayer region , you aren't affected by the global economy that affects multiplayer , you build up everything in your economy from absolute zero , that's the true singleplayer experience i think everyone wants. And i'm not saying we need to exclude multiplayer , the two can exist in harmony , something i think EA doesn't want to realize.

Like when you start a region there's a table in the economic / import/export menu that says the raw material/material/product and says , the production and the demand in your current region , which in a new region will be obviously zero , and from there you go building up different cities with different productions and different focuses , like industry , commerce , residences (obviously not being a resource) and etcetera.

So i want to know what you guys think.

The reason EA wants to include the multiplayer economy to influence the singleplayer is because your must remember that resources are finite, therefore, what will happen when all those resources in the region get exhausted and there is no way to import more? Easy. The end of the region. A true singleplayer, to my eyes, can't be done with the modus operanti of Sim City 5, that depends on a global economy, just like in real life.

The game could easily simulate for the single player a fictional world market, but the big heads at EA needed an excuse more to require always online feature for the game.

Good point, but even in the global multiplayer market resources will eventually run out. So i think its kinda forcing to go green :[

even tho this deposits fortunately last centuries.

That's old news , everyone knows the draconian E.A.

Offline play is possible but EA might make the generic offline market OmniCorp extortion-like.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

I think ideally we could play on our own planets with their own economies and have our own networks for multiplayer. But for various reasons that isn't going to happen in the near future.

Same thing i thought , but with a more totalitarian name like "E.A Nationalsocialistiche Arbiterpartei S.A"

Indeed , but if E.A decides to give up it's orwellian multiplayer , this planet thing will probably be in some expansion or dlc.

Well yeah, that's exactly what this game needs, and with the Omnicorp-like company too. Add onto that the ability to use big/unlimited income/money cheats so you have the absolute ability to create the cities of your dreams.

I would like to be able to modify the rules to get the affect/effect I want. That means I want to control the region's economy as well as the individual city's economy. Maybe I want to play this type of region with this type of economy, but I also might want to play a kind of city that wouldn't be possible if it was tied to the "global market". One of the features that's most needed in SC2013 is player control. I want to control my cities and make them mine.

What would make a better game? One where the only choice was the global economy OR one where the player could modify their regions as they see fit and they could log into the global economy if they desired.

I hope that if Maxis goes through with this regional economy idea that they spend enough time to ensure that it's balanced properly. It seems like a lot of variables which could affect the gameplay in negative ways.

(And as I've said previously, I want to play SimCity, not all that interested in SimFossilFuelEconomy.)

I like the idea that the economy in single-player starts from the ground up. I think you should have the option between keeping your economy closed, and opening it to other regions.

I say that there should be set prices, updated before the game start up (if no internet connection exists, then it can use the last known prices) and you can trade with NPC (non-playable city) neighbors. Mods and Custom Content could only be allowed on Single-Player mode to prevent cheating of the global ranks, and it would please a lot of fans by giving them a true offline single-player.

Does EA actually know where they are going with this game?

I am getting the feeling that not everybody at Maxis and EA are at the same page, at least with this game.

As for resources and economy, make multiple options available.

Personally I like the idea that a certain part of a region/map is better for one thing and another part for other things and that you will need to develop by creating a balanced and effective logistic/trade system. Things like that allow for very complex setups which for me are the challenges to overcome.

When I play SimCity 4 I try to make something work and then I try to optimize it.

As good as that idea sounds, it will sadly be impossible.
