Great update; personally I prefer the somewhat smaller updates: if you missed some, you don't have to work yourself through tons of pages of text, so I really like this one
I was especially impressed with Stokyngton's local highschool and it's surrounding sports facilities!
Keep it up!

Utora and GB - thanks for the comments, welcome back!

Well, I was hoping to produce another update but have just run out of time, I'm away until early next week so will endeavour to commence work as soon as possible after that.

    Thanks

Norwich 'Goes West' - Rivermead Founded

Hello everyone and a very warm welcome to this latest update.

Rivermead is an entirely new borough. For those that have familiarised themselves with Norwich's geography, it is directly west of Oakhill (where Her Majesty's Norwich pad Gresham Palace & Gardens are situated) and directly north of the recently built Stokyngton. It is linked by two primary routes, the A4 from Oakhill, and the A401 from Stokyngton.

The A401 comes in from Stokyngton, and reaches over the River Hex via Rivermead Bridge. Closeby is Hex Valley Power which provides power for Rivermead and Stokyngton.....

    rivermead19br.jpg

A little further east along the river is and industrial estate, with a freight depot and a rail depot for the storage of rail passenger and freight cars.....

    rivermead20hl.jpg

Soon after crossing the river northwards drivers reach Rivermead's key junction. Known as Rivermead Flyover, it distributes traffic to and from the A4 (east-west) the A401 (south-north east) and the A40 (north west). The decision was made to install a flyover here because of the sheer volume of traffic that uses the A4,it provides relief for the roundabout beneath. Also in view here is HRH Prince Of Wales University.....

Rivermead Botanical Gardens were created on the northern bank of the river to combine a quiet stroll in a pleasant park with the educational opportunities for young and old horticulturalists. The A4 is tunneled beneath the gardens.....

    rivermead44tm.jpg

Office blocks and luxury high-rise apartments competed furiously for the beautiful views of the gardens. In shot (top-right) is HRH Princess Anne Hospital.....

    rivermead53cs.jpg

The north side of the gardens, where plush homes overlook picturesque squares. The A401, or Rivermead High Street, is in the top-left corner.....

    rivermead65zi.jpg

Rivermead Station, with it's glass roof is a shining example of new architectural attitudes. In view here is the termination of one of Norwich Light Railway's (NLR) lines.....

Another view of HRH Princess Anne Hospital, with surrounding suburbs.....

All Hallows' Church, set in All Hallows' Close, which is a community of wealthy folk living inside the encircling wall.....

This is Faraday Square, named after physicist Michael Faraday (1791-1867). Faraday was responsible for many advances in the understanding of electricity during the 1830's, by way of discovery and subsequent experiments in electromagnetic induction, batteries, plasmas and electrostatics. He was also revered by many as an expert in spiritualist phenomenon. He also published work on electric motors, and by liquifying chlorine, he proved that it was possible to transform gases to liquid state. This was thought to be a suitable place for the building of the Modern Technology Museum, which exhibits the latest inventions to assist in fields as diverse as space exploration and satellite technology, medical advancements, building & engineering technology (including one of the machines used to dig the tunnels to enable the building of the Norwich Metro system), electronics and sports sciences.....

    rivermead109lf.jpg

The top left corner of this picture is Rivermead City Hall, opposite the entrance to All Hallows' Church. Meanwhile the Ambassador Faraday Square Hotel is on the top left corner of the square itself.....

    rivermead112yv.jpg

This area is Seven Kings, named so because of the seven identically-shaped roads that link the A40 on the left to Rivermead High Street. Seven Kings Park is a popular spot for relaxing during lazy summer days.....

    rivermead123cf.jpg

Nearby is Billesden Stadium, the home of Norwich R.F.C. (rugby club, for those not familiar). It is the first rugby stadium in Norwich.....

    rivermead133jr.jpg

Also in Billesden is the College of Historical Studies, the Museum of Modern Literature and St. John The Baptist Church.....

    rivermead147my.jpg

Billesden is home to suburbs as well as Billesden Trading Estate, a large, mainly hi-tech industry park.....

    rivermead151vb.jpg

More suburbs surrounded by shopping facilities.....

    rivermead168wp.jpg

Rivermead Trading Estate is the last of the borough's large industrial areas.....

    rivermead176ha.jpg

Brampton Cemetery is situated in Woodside Park.....

This has to be in my top five list of favorite city journals on Simtropolis. Your layout amazes me, your regional view is fantastic... but the thing that blows me away the most is the population counts for each of your boroughs and what percentage they add to your region. I love when city journals include populations and statistics like that. Keep up the fantastic work! It is truly amazing to see.

And also... congrats on your 1000 POST!  39.gif39.gif

Urban Sprawl Edges Towards East Coast - Welcome To Cowdeswell & Elmermouth

Good evening to all and welcome to Norwich's newest area. The borough of Cowdeswell & Elmermouth comprises of the former on the northern bank of the River Hex, and the latter on the southern side. The borough is situated on the eastern end of Maidenwell and takes the city to it's first natural green belt, as well as overlooking the confluence of the Rivers Hex and Elmer.

We'll start on the southern bank, to the west of River Elmer, where the area of West Elmermouth is situated. Here is an area of residential close to the main river.....

    cowdeswell12ku.jpg

Just to the east of that is a well-developed commercial centre, with West Elmermouth Station to the bottom of shot along with the terminal of one of Norwich's NLR lines. Elmermouth Town Hall is just above centre.....

    cowdeswell24kd.jpg

Another densely populated area with Rook's Lighthouse to warn passing water traffic away from the riverbank.....

    cowdeswell36hc.jpg

    An evening shot.....

    cowdeswell40jc.jpg

Rotchenside is an area just around the corner from West Elmermouth, here is a pretty area around a playing field.....

    cowdeswell53qi.jpg

    More residential areas.....

    cowdeswell65xt.jpg

Even further south is a high-tech industrial area, close to Rotchenside Station.....

    cowdeswell79af.jpg

Rotchenside Bridge links West Elmermouth to Elmermouth, across the River Elmer. Cowdeswell & Elmermouth has only two bridges, city planners have tried to encourage commuters to use one of the many car ferry terminals dotted around the river banks.....

    cowdeswell82jc.jpg

The city's government has prohibited any urbanisation of Rook's Island, as it is the site of many nesting areas for birds. Special bird-watching excursions can be arranged from one of the surrounding ferry terminals. Rook's Island is surrounded by the River Hex to the north, River Elmer to the west and the Elmermouth Channel to the east & south.....

    cowdeswell90hl.jpg

Stonebridge is an area of Elmermouth with another area of commercial high-rise. Stonebridge Town Hall is in shot also.....

    cowdeswell102ru.jpg

Stonebridge Town Hall, with The Fox & Merkin Pub.....

    cowdeswell117yl.jpg

    Expensive homes on King's Avenue.....

    cowdeswell122cj.jpg

The CEO of MC Signage Corporation (Maidenwell) has a prime plot of land in south Elmermouth.....

    cowdeswell132ic.jpg

The area of Keat's Green is centred around Keat's Green Playing Field.....

    cowdeswell141iv.jpg

It is surrounded by a number of local landmarks. On the western end, St. Stephen's Church hosts many memorable weddings close to the river.....

    cowdeswell155ye.jpg

Keat's Green Library is opposite Club Malibu, on the southern side of the playing fields.....

    cowdeswell166gp.jpg

Another local initiative is to keep an eye on speeding traffic. In this picturesque road is one of many speed cameras designed to improve road safety (and line the pockets of the Department of Transport).....

    cowdeswell171bl.jpg

    East Norwich University.....

    cowdeswell185oy.jpg

    Witham Hall & Golf Course.....

    cowdeswell194uf.jpg

Cowdeswell Athletic FC is Norwich's first amateur football club, it's ground capacity is a whopping 650!

    cowdeswell205yz.jpg

    Quiet and peaceful suburbia nearby.....

    cowdeswell215ln.jpg

Stonethorpe Bridge spans the River Hex to Cowdeswell on the north side.....

    cowdeswell227bt.jpg

Yardingham is a short drive north of the bridge, with tightly packed housing on a maze of streets.....

    cowdeswell232rm.jpg

Yardingham Football Club is Norwich's latest professional football club, with it's superb new stadium.....

    cowdeswell243ge.jpg

Central Cowdeswell, with the last area of commercial prosperity.....

    cowdeswell251wb.jpg

Cowdeswell, like so many other areas of Norwich, has the familiar townhouses in abundance.....

    cowdeswell265bi.jpg

The A13 enters Cowdeswell from Maidenwell and is the main arterial road that supplies a wealth of high-tech industries.....

    cowdeswell276bq.jpg

    More high-tech.....

    cowdeswell287aa.jpg

The A13 also runs close to some important civic buildings. Cowdeswell Central Library (top-left), Cowdeswell Borough Council (to the right) and Cowdeswell Magistrates Court (below).....

    cowdeswell296xr.jpg

Ashtonwood Services close to Ashtonwood Roundabout.....

    cowdeswell305rf.jpg

    Sign, courtesy of mattc005.....

    ashtonwoodroundaboutjpeg9uj.jpg

Turning right towards Ashtonwood Oil Depot leads us through another industrial estate.....

    cowdeswell313ce.jpg

Ashtonwood Oil Depot, with a light cargo terminal, is a crucial hub of Norwich's logistics as far as moving raw materials around.....

    cowdeswell323ox.jpg

Ashtonwood Nature Reserve is an area of low-lying, marshy land with a high concentration of wildlife. It makes up Norwich's eastern green belt.....

    cowdeswell336pg.jpg

Peregor Hill is an area of housing with several plots available for purchase. Please apply within.....

    cowdeswell349hd.jpg

This is the small town of Ashtonwood, the centrepiece of which is the Cathedral of Our Lady.....

    cowdeswell356cl.jpg

Ashtonwood is a community of modest homes, but that hasn't stopped Starbucks from cashing in on any market they can.....

    cowdeswell363eb.jpg

    Budget & population info.....

    A view of the city.....

So, my friends, you're up to date. Enjoy, and please let me know what you think.

    Take it easy,

holy cow, andrew george, looks like you have been quite busy.

as you know, i like your city building skills, but that marsh land is quite beautiful. very realistic how you got the little puddles of water in there...and of course the CycleDogg trees make it even more spectacular.

    keep up the great work.
