Best slope mod

I have seen several slope mods available (JRJ, Ennedi, CSX), and wondering which is the best (ease of use and realistic). I am a train guy and would like my rail to have proper slope. Also interested how each one affects tunnels and bridges.

If you ask to me, Ennedi's slope mod works like a charm. It comes in three flavours and you can try which one you like the most. I guess there's not much difference between them all, but I use this one and it even changed my city-building style!

I honestly prefer to do everything by my own hand, a slope mod doesn't let you complete freedom on the terrain. I understand most of people don't want lose time on little things and must admit sometimes a slope mod would fit my need, but not always.

If you want a challenging network construction situation use Big Red Fish's Tunnel and Slope Mod:

This one makes it so that the slopes have to be really smooth (IIRC, it needs 30 tiles to lower a ground heavy rail track 15m--the game's default height difference between elevated and ground networks). It works neatly for avenues and highways, makes elrail and monorail slightly difficult and makes heavy rail supremely challenging; that is, if you like rolling or steep terrain. Make sure to get some hole digging lots and terrain raising lots to get the 15m transitions for the Network Addon Mod (if you have it, and you should). Now, if you want to build realistic railroads, these do need extremely soft inclines, especially for freight lines.

Wow 30 tiles, now i understand the challange, but i think that would mine the playability, doesn't it?

If you look at mountain railways, these have to make great use of tunnels, viaducts and turns (say, horseshoe curves, loops and even zig-zag escalation) to change height in accordance to a steep route. Unless you enjoy extremely mountainous regions, it should be a doable challenge.

I typically use the Ennedi Slope Mod, because I find it to be a lot more slope-tolerant for RHW and Rail.

If you're gonna go with that, though, use these hole digging lots; They're designed to work with the ESM.

Thanks, all. Will have to try them out and see what works best, I guess, seeing there are varying opinions. Yes, I do want the soft incline for my rail realism.

I use the BRF, like heavy rail and mountains. Guess what...

(PS: I do cheat sometimes by removing the mod if I want trains to head onto a viaduct or into a ditch, and put it back after building)

Don't be so hard on yourself, I really wouldn't call that cheating, I call it civil engineering.

I modified my own version of the BRF slope mod, so it's a bit more forgiving, making it easier to complete networks built on slopes. However, I "level" out my networks with less forgiving networks (such as the light rail network) to smoothen out the slopes. It will require more work, but the result is equally satisfying.
