SimCity: Multiplayer Discussion

I do believe that in time the servers will be shut down anyways.

The question is will Maxis let us play the game afterwards? Besides, since I'm not in the 1%, it will give me time to upgrade my computer and play SC13 only when the requirements for both graphics and online play are lost.

Until then, I do admit that global play is fun, even with these poorly limited city times - however there will be the option to play the game by yourself too (but, still online). But global play gives a certain sense of challenge already found in some SC4 projects where people edit their cities and connect them to one another. I guess it would work that way, with the added bonus of demand and supply for many many things, which is fun. But it just shouldn't be forced, especially for said one-player regions.

Really, if multiplayer weren't forced into my face, I'd buy this now.

I look forward to trying all aspects of play styles in the game. I want to play alone, but im also interested in playing with my friends and with people from here in the community. Everyone is up in arms about something they havent even tried yet. It may suck, or it may be great, non of us know yet. Im not going to knock it till I try it.

i'm with ya, i'm going to play solo but i also am very excited to play with other people. it really reflects the real world, you run your own city as the cities around you grow on their own. i really don't get the complaints about the multiplayer. if you want to complain about origin or the forced connection, that's another story... but why complain about multiplayer itself? sure, simcity has always been a solo game and that seems to be the gripe that a lot of people have with it. i know it's fun to just create an entire region by yourself. it's not like you won't be able to do that anymore. then people complain about the global market... i personally like a little challenge, so having limited resources and trading seems awesome to me. multiplayer is the future of gaming, get with the times people.

Agree!

I watch my 'girl' friend in the office play cityville (or it is simcity social) and I can understand how the whole interaction stuff is interesting to some people. Just not my stuff... FPS online yes, but city-builder with leaderboard is so girly

Other games in similar category as sc13 come with sandbox and online options, like cxl, the sims, spore, very weird this one.

I agree with the view that mp online only is a 'forced' thing they are afraid it will fail if core fans gets an option... it happened with spore before...

I just don't think this kind of treatment of core fans is going to go down well...

Despite recent stats, I had no idea city builders with leaderboards were girly, nor did I have any clue that anything "girly" should be forbidden or frowned upon. The point is in the whole experience changing, I think.

Foot in mouth so sorry I didn't mean to imply a girly simcity should be 'forbidden', I meant to say 'casual' but said 'girly! Core fans in general despise 'casual' and Simcity being turned into cityville 3D, I'm one of them.. That's what I meant, am not a sexist pig I swear!

It's true though I haven''t seen/ played any city or simulation games with leaderboards. I think Cim2 will have multiplay (and sandbox and one other mode) I'm not sure they will have leaderboard. Leaderboards are very specific to certain kind of PC games..some of my ipad games have leaderboards, and they are uber casual! Definitely not what Simcity used to be or some would argue 'supposed to be'..

I have to admit the picture of sc13 leaderboard reminds me of facebook city games leaderboards, never appealed to me and never will.

And yeah I agree they will shut down the servers sooner or later. It is very typical of big game companies to do that when they want to sell you the sequel! That's why I didn't bother with new online games that used to be stand-alone games like Diablo lll, I knew there will surely end in tears, for the fans, and unfortunately not for the game marketers.

Like everybody, I watched simcity gameplay video #2 and I got an idea.

The Origin (or EA) will have Simcity servers and we play these online SimCity servers right?

BUT in video, Stone was looks like the owner of game world and Dan wants to join the game world. So that if Simtopolis can open (or rent) its SimCity servers and simtropolis members can play each other ?

I dont understand this situation and I am really confused.

I believe it works sort of like Anno 2070, where you can play against people in your friend list.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

''Cities don't live in a bubble. Proof? This new region shot supports up to 16 cities that you can claim privately, with your friends, or with anyone around the world.''

I certainly hope that is a medium sized region. Multiplayer mode looks fun, though.

I am also looking forward exploring all aspects of the game. Playing alone, with friends and players from the wonderful community here.
