That's it! I'm Buying this game!

Assuming Maxis' promises are all true, that this is a true SimCity game and not just some SCS spinoff, then I'm very much willing to ditch SC4. I'm going to stop listening to pessimistic perfectionists' opinions and buy this game when it gets released. SC on consoles, SCS, CL, CXL, CC... I'm not going to wait another 9 years for a city sim game that possibly still won't live up to what the die-hard fans exactly want.

I'm not saying that we should totally abandon our SC4 creations, we can always come back to them again anytime we want. But if we wish to keep moving forward, then I think it's high time that we let go of our usual mentality, and start a new.

Always a good way to look at things, IT is different to every person, they all have different opinions of what they want in the game.

Hmm

Maxis won't deliver on all promises,The game is SCS:2 and SC4 will nevah be ditched. Pessimistic perfectionists are always right (I should know, I am one :D) and I will wait 6 months to buy the game. Umadbro?

Ok Trolling aside, I will buy the game to play in my off Simcity 4 time. however I am under the Impression that Simcity 4 will be the game everyone plays.

    I'm not mad GrimJr987, you can say whatever you want really, we all have the freedom to do so. Maxis' recent ideas kind of made me numb from all my previous notions of what SimCity micromanaging should be. And like Larks2242 said, we all have differing opinions. So I made sure that I'm for ready anything before making this topic.

    I simply feel for all the hobbyists here that have been waiting, almost desperately, for a true SC successor.

    I really respect your opinion on the matter. +1 for you my friend.

    Yeah, it may not be perfect, but I have this crazy notion that if I were to try and be a little positive, and stop the useless namecalling (SC:S 2, CXL Reloaded, whatever else), and actually enjoy what's being presented I might be a little less frustrated and a little more satisfied.

    And while folks really want to say this game is going down when we know nothing about it, I'm going to wait and see some real game footage and more news is it becomes available. I won't pre-order now, but I will also hold out from all the opinion and speculation, and wait to see the truth.

    I am excited but reserve judgement until later in the game release cycle. If the game is locked down with Origin and is modder-unfriendly, I won't buy it. I have thousands of hours of entertainment left in SC4.

    De gustibus non disputandum (There is no accounting for taste).

    Take it from an old IT guy who has been in this business for more years than most of you have been alive. We have the programmer sitting on the edge of the bed telling his bride how great things are going to be. She was still a virgin when she divorced him.

    I am going to lie in the weeds and wait for an impartial review or two before I decide to join this bandwagon or not. They hype is more than I'd like to base a purchase of an on-line game at that exorbitant price with so little information. The trailer looks more like Societies, especially with all the hype about talking to the Sims which means, I suppose, that they have abandoned Simlish. If it is a new game with city simulation overtones but really a version of The Sims let them say so.

    I am sure this will attract all the younger set who want the new toys like 3D and all that. Looking at my system it is just barely adequate to meet the requirements. I most certainly don't plan to upgrade to run this unless there is a good solid reason to do so.

    By the time it is released, BTW, Linux will have had two or three new versions, Windows 8 will be out, and I don't know where the MAC is going. I wonder if it will run on Android? Are they ignoring the total market and concentrating on Windows PCs only? A full scale mistake, ignoring a growing market of non-windows users. All those tablet users would probably like to have the game.

    Tablet users? How in the world will a tablet have enough power to run a game like Simcity?

    I don't really understand pessimistic people, it seems like they woudn't want a new simcity, the game was just announced yesterday, it is still in development (just 30%) and some people are already criticizing it saying that it's going to be a "Societies 2", please, it is obvious that this new simcity won't be a "Societies 2" first becouse it is being developed by Maxis and not Tilted Mill Entertainment who made societies, and second becouse Maxis is not so stupid to do a bad game after 10 years of waiting, I Trust Maxis, I'm sure they won't disappoint us.

    PS: sorry for my bad english :/

    I miss the days when ST used to be more "fun", when people actually went with the flow willingly. Unlike now, the atmosphere seems so critical and stringent. It's almost like I entered the twilight zone..

    There's a big chunk of this community that does not like anything that isn't SC4.5.

    The mess of Cities XL that happened has also caused people to be a lot more sceptical than they used to be.

    EA/Maxis will be well aware of the problems surrounding Monte Cristo, and the ultimate failure of their business model. Just because CXL had problems, it is rather unfair to tar this new announcement with the same brush, as so many people on this forum are being so quick to do.

    I am sure that EA/Maxis have also learned from what happened with SCS. I would be very surprised if they make the same mistake again.

    Folks need to put away the flaming torches and pitchforks until we have substantially more information on which to base judgement.

    Please give EA/Maxis a chance.

    The chance they get is as follows:

    1. Delivered on time;
    2. Delivered debugged fully (means a serious set of alpha and beta tests, hopefully by the community. Programmers can't test their own stuff.);
    3. Fully documented and supported.

    Seeing the 4-part demonstration on the Glassbox engine, I have to say I'm really impressed. They don't even need to add in time-based access for services as we saw in CXL, it happens naturally with the way the engine is. Simulation-wise, this is looking like it'll be a great game, and its implementation of finite resources means there will be more to the city than just road infrastructure. (Lets face it, especially once NAM got rolling, Sim City 4 was basically a transportation network game more than it was a City Simulation game.)

    Maxis, I'm sure does listen to the community. They know Simtropolis and SC4 devlotion exist and want to work with the custom content community, so I'm sure they have a whiteboard in the Maxis office somewhere with, "Don't do what Montecristo did checklist".

    I really think you guys are missing the point to some of the worry about this game. Many people are really invested in SC4, with all the creations and mods adding to the gameplay, it isn't as simple as Sc4 to SC5. We really are no longer playing SC4, but playing SC4.5 or so with all the mods.

    Most people expressing a little concern and caution because they don't want to be burned by a game that is like Societies, etc.

    All in all, I think most people are geniuely excited with caution for this next installment. I think most people will move on a play SC5, especially if modding is possible and the game is a step up from SC4 and many of the mods.
