Anyone notice the launching arcology at the end of the trailer video? So many references to Simcity 2000 in the video.

I hope they keep some of the SC4 buildings, even if they need to be dumbed down a bit to fit a full 3D game. Did you guys see the SC4 hydrogen power plant in the trailer... how awesome did that look!

And yeah, I think that was probably a space-shuttle too.

I zoomed in a bit, its definitely a Arcology, since it has a clear glass dome. Thats just my opinion. Mind you it isnt surprising theyd have references to old games. Even if its tongue and cheek.

Also yeah, I saw all the old Sc4 buildings. I'm curious to see if the regions are borderless. If so, it could really make the game interesting. Seems from the one video they said two players can cooperate to make structures. Anywho.. good stuff :D

The high-tech city was especially SC4 influenced; I saw SC4 malls, SC4 offices, SC4 hydrogen plant, SC4 industry. I like that this game is acknowledging the legacy of the past SimCities.

Zoom it in at 720p. Yes that was a Launch Arcology, that actually launched!

I saw Autosaurus Wrecks in the Stadium (breathing fire!,) and the Major Art Museum in the High-tech city.

On a side note, I liked how some of the sims running out of the power plant were on segways.

The building has a dome and looks very similar with the Launch Arcology :golly:

Also I think I saw buildings from the Simcity 4 custom community :golly:

Ok, well, I'll admit when I'm wrong. However they did say in an interview that you can work co-operatively online to accomplish feats like "launching a space shuttle".

^ Yes, there is still that possibility. Though to think that Maxis is taking the game back to its "roots", and that they are making it to be more "fun". Adding true arcologies just make more sense.

    Given that..

    Arcologies + Modular Parts + Modding = !!

Yes it would be nice to have arcologies, and if they use resources realistically and aren't just statistical this time that would also be nice.

Arcologies are supposed to be self-contained (except in SC2K, can't control their crime, education, or even power).

So with GB there would have to be internal resource generation and usage simulation. Interesting concept.

    1. Arcologies and mixed use buildings would only be feasible in GB if you can have fake (no agent) population and jobs (permanently or solely filled by fake population) so population would only be a statistic for those buildings.

    2. It would be fun to live in a forest arcology.

    3. I love these arcology references.

The SimCity Twitter page tweeted about arcologies.

i find these arcos quite ugly and not really appealing to put in a city, doesn't worth all the money they generate. Before thinking about colonization they should more think about transportation which i hope will be amazing and engaging.

if arcos should return, they should more put it like it has to be architecture/ecology, just like this beautiful building

@ punknower, as an architecture student, I completely agree! Arcologies are cool but they could be so much better! Plus, taking it to a larger extent, I think there should be more visible (and functional, simulationally speaking) sustainable and green buildings, infastracture, etc. I mean, who doesn't love a rooftop garden?

    I figured I'd add this

    ...

The inclusion of arcologies, which were made popular in SimCity 2000 yet have not been seen since, is an idea Katsarelis says the office is tossing around.

    ...

    http://www.news10.net/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=186871

Hopefully they'd make arcos optional, which I'm assuming they will.

Though I'm thinking that these would still be irresistible to those who are looking for extra end-gameplay (like me :}).
