Because all the cool kids are doing it and mommy always said I should try and be cool...

I took the test in question on December 23, 2011, and this is where it put me:

When I took the test on February 7, 2008, this is where it put me:

This stuff is funny! :P

Personally, I don't think any political party should exist as all it does is divide the country and nohting really gets done, But that's just me.

Hey, I moved!

Give it a few more years and you'll end up here with me:

I think I've moved the other way, although I don't have a copy of my previous results to hand. I'm pretty sure it might be in a post somewhere on ST though.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

I moved more right and more down to -3,-2

That means that we fall on a large spectrum from conservative to super progressive, we all have something in common, we are all Libertarians. Another term is anti-statist.

I'm still confused if it is better to be on the top right or bottom right, i see that i'm with the mainstream politicians though.

It is better to be in the bottom right or near the central point. The farther up you go, you get more statist until you get all the way up to authoritarian like the big dictators, Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Kim, etc.

While it's been a while since I've taken the test, I've moved more left. I blame that on the cloak surrounding the financial system and knowing how the likes of Bayer operates where no jurisdiction can get to them.

But then again, where I spread cream and sugar on my strawberries, big business prefer to cover them in manure.

I'm still confused if it is better to be on the top right or bottom right, i see that i'm with the mainstream politicians though.

It's better to be in the top right corner if you like other people to interfer in your life; if you like to be left alone and don't peek through people's bedroom windows it's better to be in the lower.

"Mainstream politicians" are on the right because they're paid to be there; and in the top part because their voters demand them to be there (i.e. they like guys that resemble themself, tell them that it is OK to be like that and are working to reduce those who are not).

I took that political compass test too, and the result is:

http://www.politicalcompass.org/facebook/pcgraphpng.php?ec=-4.75&soc=-5.90

So that's approximately where European social democrats are I guess.

According to the site it's closest to the Dalai Lama.

I'm sure both China and North Korea are though.

I'm sure you're trying to imply that being left is a wrong choice. It is usually considered to be an improper argumentation when you use an example to prove something universal. One could apply the exact same strategy to try to prove that 'right is wrong'.

By the way: you're forgetting the fact that besides being left, those countries are also very authoritarian. One could also contradict the statement that 'China is left'. It is hardly an equal society, is it? It is also very interesting to note that there are scholars who view the Communist Party of North Korea as extreme-right.

(Are you one of those people who call president Obama a socialist?)

I think I have said before that cute program or no, I consider myself to be a somewhat right of center centrist. I like minority governments, however. The present situation in my country is rather distasteful, but necessary. We have a Conservative majority of nine seats.

The best result of the last election however was the punishment for overweening selfishness that fell on the Liberal party. They are now third. A position that the 'Natural Ruling Party of Canada' has never, ever been in before. Their party is in disarray and will be for quite some time. Being slightly left of center most of the time has shown them that they can't be a little bit anything when they piss-off everyone.

The last election polarized Canadians into Conservatives and Socialists (New Democratic Party is more than somewhat left). If only five of the nine seats that made the majority for the Conservatives had gone to the other parties, it would still be a minority government.

I consider myself one of the people who value freedom, over equality, I don't believe it is the governments place to play robin-hood or tell people which way to go in life, there are few things that i disagree with the right about, but there are so many freedom limiting stances on the left that i cannot tolerate, excessive gun control, excessive spending to try to fix peoples problems for them, the people should be able to be independent and depend on themselves not the government, people can be self sufficient.

I hear all this pro communism stuff all the time, sure they say it works well on paper, but yet all the examples of it in effect show people with nothing and the government reaping the rewards, Cuba for example. The only really bad far right example was Hitler and that was based on racist hate crimes not a fundamental leadership.

Obama's attacks on the wealthy make me question where his agenda really lies, Why is it so bad to be successful? Is that not the meaning of life to succeed? Why do we treat people who have success as if they are evil?

Well, you see there is wealth of success, and then there is pursuit of wealth as the only goal. Persons who are 'excessively' wealthy must somehow justify this accumulation and show how it is being used for good. If the only good is the owner's, then he has probably passed out of the pale of good citizenry. The moral aspects that enter here cannot be solved by a statute.

I personally see the worship of Mammon as a heresy.

Saying that libertarians are "classical liberals" is meaningless, because it rests on the false assumption that there is any fundamental difference between modern liberals and so-called "classical liberals."

There isn't.

Both fundamentally believe that in the conflict between the individual and authority, the balance should be tilted in favor of the individual. The differences in policy preferences between modern liberals and "classical liberals"/modern libertarians (in the US sense of the word "libertarian") are totally superficial, and are manifestations not of a fundamental difference in worldview but rather in how one incorporates advances in our knowledge of how societies work.
