Good update meinhosen! Glad to see that you've had the chance to post some. Megan's Falls looks very pleasant, I could imagine myself being there.1.gif I like that sunset on the Performance and Art School and it looks like South Ralston has a skyline of its own. The route 37 bridge picture reminds me of an old photograph you'd find in an old file cabinet of some department of the county government. Good update, great special effects.44.gif
I've always liked how you make exits for sunken freeways, so I incorporated them into my new under-development city, Merritt. You might wonder why I like using that name, well infact it is my middle name thats why. It took me awhile to figure out how to get the road to have an intersection with the overpass over the highway, use the T-slope piece. Anyway my new city is Merritt like I said and it sort of resembles Memphis but not exactly. As you weren't trying to make Ralston exactly the same as Louisville I didn't make Merritt exactly the same as Memphis. One reason would be that it would be extremely difficult. I'm building the city by starting with the transportation system first and then filling everything in. I doubt that I would ever have a CJ about it unless I got it and the whole area around it very developed. I must say you have inspired the way I build citys, you have a great CJ. Thanks meinhosen!9.gif

My favorite part of this last update is actually that one shot with both the sunken freeway and elevated/ground in one picture. After I joint ST, I became so enamored with the sunken highways I was seeing in city journals that I went a little crazy and tried to sink everything. It took way to much effort and isn't very realistic. I am very happy to see that the best of the Simtropolis CJs do indeed use more than just the sunken. Great work!

    Grand Finale - Part II

    RuralSplash31.jpg

Big thanks to everyone who has replied.

6underground - Welcome to Ralston!  Kinda nice to see new faces, even if it is right near the end.  Glad you could make it and thanks for the comment!

Darmok - Thanks again!  I can't wait to present the finale.

Cody02 - Always great to see you back.  Good luck on your new region.  I hope you have a good time building it, and remember, build for yourself and then share what you enjoy.  Thanks again for your great comments. 1.gif

jacqulina - I like to think sometimes that it's just not a Simtrop CJ unless jacqulina's commented.  Thanks! 44.gif

Nardo - Hopefully this won't be farewell to Ralston.  I will try to pop in every now and again....

    ElBarto92 - Thanks!

Equilibria - I do try to mix up my transportation as much as possible.  I think I've tried to use just about every type of transportation there is in Ralston (yes, there is the remnants of a failed subway system under the streets of the city)

Vegeta The Puppet - Thanks for dropping by and commenting!

    Well, let's get moving....

Way out in the countryside is where this is from.  Just a nice shot of the farms and grid layout of north central <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 />Kentucky farmland.  Again, I'm keeping with a trend of posting my personal favorite first.  (PS- does anyone else besides me love the diversity of the expansion pack fields?)

Again looking at your pics, is a real treat! 3.gif
In Van der Veldt, I really like the small central park and the surrounding area, the suburbs of Madison are so nice with those trees, and the Green Center Mall area, with the arboretum and ponds leaving a lot of natural space is so inviting.
The railyards and industry shots are real looking, pollution is not nice but unfortunately part of RL. 15.gif

Superb work meinhosen, I'm glued to my monitor for the following updates! 44.gif

Great finale (and it is good news that you may continue this masterpiece from time to time!)

My favourite one is the dirty industry although it was really different to choose ...

Just a detail: the T-intersection at the stadium: Although I use the el Highway VERY rarely this would be a situation: Try tp make the transition to the ElHighway before the railway overpass with the long NAM piece and then stay elevated and make a T-intersection ground highway ending to elHighway.

I guess this could look a little bit better, so to say the dot on the i

I missed the first part, but I thought that steady zooming out was very useful for a nice varied perspective.

I like the views of Greenwood (parking lot mania! excellent!). The mall is very nicely laid out, as are the surrounding developments. A nice mix of development and natural beauty there.

In the view of Midtown industry, I really like how that highway is right next to the factories, as so many old urban freeways often have little to no room between it and the abutting buildings.

That's a nice skyline too, with the re-appearance of the squiggle... 10.gif

Amazing updates meinhosen. Van der Veldt looks so nice, I especially like the bridge in the historic picture. I love the magnificent 'farms in autumn' pictures in your most recent update. And Midtown with the mid-rise recreational-industrial mix looks very nice. Also great job with the CBD.

Everything looks so realistic and well presented. Too bad that this CJ is near its end... but I really enjoy the 'Finale' so far.

    Grand Finale - Part III
    RuralSplash31.jpg

    Personal Replies

BubbaGump - I hope, too, that this isn't the end of Ralston.  We'll see... but keep your eyes open, as Ralston's sister city of Ft. Brockton is currently undergoing terraforming and initial planning (if you thought Ralston was good, Brockton's gonna be even better)

Darmok - Glued to the moniter, eh?  I think you'll enjoy this next update just as much.

Nardo - I agree about that highway intersection you mention.  What can I say other than the highway planner was an idiot (wait, I was that highway planner...D'OH!)

    sloppet - Thanks!

oroen - Thanks for the great feedback and comments!  I do appreciate them, and it's always nice to read comments on time consuming areas (like the mall).

PhilsCafe - I appreciate the comments, thanks!

Now this is sweet... this update is my 400th post! 39.gif
I guess that means that it'll have to be extra good. 31.gif

    What a huge update ... 46.gif

Impressive downtown - impressive in its reality and proportions! I like the church next to the highway - looks like it had been cut through the old town (like it has been done in the fifties and sixties...)

Great overview of Greenwood! Nice freeway and avenue layout!!

That railyard and its dimension made me almost fell from my chair! I guess I should nominate you for a trixie for the best railyards!!!

Hey, these students seem to do way more sport than I did (which wasn't much I have to confess ... )

And that bridge over the plopped river is still a Hingucker!!!

    Great update meinhosen.

I love the nice parks of UK Ralston Campus. Looks really nice. But what impresses me most are the dimensions of the suburbs in Greenwood and the rail yard. Excellent job.

Ah, there it is again, the van der Veldt bridge picture... re-edited. It's beautiful indeed. The trees look even better in technicolor...

Downtown views are fabulous, especially the first one! I like the meandering highway!
And I agree with Bernhard about the railyard! WOW huge! 6.gif
The campus UK's Memorial is subtle and peaceful! 36.gif

    Great one again Meinhosen!

    Take care!

The dimensions are definitely very nice here. I'll say the same thing about the rail yard. Some nice views of downtown again, and everything else is excellent. I like the story on the whole College Church prohibition thing, as well as the three wise men Moe, Larry, and Curly... (having a bit too much fun with the back story, are we... 10.gif)

Hey this is a great CJ!

I really love the fact that you have both great rural communities and bustling Downtowns, one doesn't see that a lot here. 44.gif

Another great thing is the city it self, it looks really nice (but where are all the people? It looks o so dead some times, only downside).

WHOA!!6.gif6.gif6.gif MAN I LOVE THOSE REGION PICS, it really looks like a realistic city/suburban/rural area! Your region has everything! I LOVE REALISM, realism on this CJ is 100 out of 10!29.gif INSPIRING. If these are just teasers of the Grand Finale then I've got something commin'!
One question, I know you won't be updating this CJ for a long time but after you get back you are going to continue it, right?42.gif
    Just making sure.1.gif
