You're update is definately jaw-dropping just to look at it. I'm amazed by the amazing perspective of your small town. The rows of homes, one mid-rise, almost everything done is perfection, from the story to the city building skills.

Chapter 5

 

     I arrived at Briar Junction, population 11,278, when it was pitch black. Luckily, downtown is situated on the highway, and the bright lights helped to guide me to my Mediterranean-themed hotel, the Europa.

 

 

 

     I awoke in the morning with an e-mail waiting for me and a need for a good strong espresso before I could do anything. After that initial cup of coffee, I checked to see who the mystery e-mailer was. It was the girl from the hotel in Warrick, replying!

 

     Hi. When I first saw you in Warrick, you looked like an interesting guy, and when you weren't allowed in, I had to help. Coincidentally, I was just separated from my husband. If you're in McNamara now, and you're moving west, you should be in Briar Junction. For you to get around the whole region, you'd probably have to head south to Gotham County next, so I'll wait for you there. See you soon, Clarissa Dougherty

 

     Well, one thing was for sure, the girl wasn't stupid. She was right, I was heading to Gotham County next. I supposed we'd take the next steps in Gotham. Looking out my window, I stared at the beautiful city in front of me.

 

 

     The highway is lined by high-tech factories and trendy shops. The region's only Ralph Lauren store is the most frequented, but other retailers include a Nike store, Barnes and Noble, and Abercrombie and Fitch.

 

 

     The Mid-Town Mall contains only local businesses, and is best experienced on foot. Lisa's Lucky Bracelets was a favourite of mine, anyhow. (I picked up 6.)

 

 

     The Hillendale Lofts are the biggest project ever completed in the region, housing almost 1900 residents, most students and young people from 20-24. With cheap living and easy access to almost anywhere, it's not hard to understand why they're so loved by the public.

 

 

     Venturing into the older riverside parts of town, I stopped to see some beautiful homes on ths shore. Even with their small size, I could imagine the great location cauing the price to be around $700,000 or more. If mansions were built here, however, there would be danger of sinking because of the size. So the homeowners should be happy with their bungalows!

 

 

     Main Street isn't the main street anymore, but 3400 people still live in Old Briar Junction, so there's lots of traffic. The suburban feel is envied by the newer parts of town, all griddy and such, but I like grids. You never get lost...

 

     The old covered bridge crossing the Briar Junction itself is standing the test of time at 96 years old. There was a proposal a few years back to tear it down and build a new one, but the residents went nuts, and it never went through.

 

 

     Getting to that familiar farmland, I was amazed by the vast apple orchards. I could only imagine how many pies became of those MacIntoshes...

 

 

     The small town of Hobart's Hill was named after Mr. Hobart, who built the rail line stretching off to the north, south, and west. Only 142 people live here, but they're all relatively happy, and only have to walk 5 minutes at the most to their jobs at the factories on the highway.

 

 

     Heading up north for a bit, I looked at the rail cutting through a cornfield. No freight cars were currently travelling, although they were quite common. Oh well...

 

 

     The highway to Gotham turned southeast, and I drove by more farms. It was unbelieveable, how many things these crops produced...you don't realize it until you see it up close.

 

 

     Finally reaching the border hamlet that was South Hobart's Hill, I crossed into Gotham County, awaiting Clarissa and a new adventure.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but more lurkers would be nice, because this CJ has one of the lowest view to post ratios on ST. I can't believe that I missed an update, but I guess spending 24 hours of my weekend doing community service justifies the gap.

That little hamlet looks excellent, the commercial district is just like a few little places I've been through on travels.

 

I'll be waiting to find out about Briar Jct., and what happens involving the lawsuit (reminds me of some TV shows), and relationship with the hotel woman.

 

EDIT: Funny how things like this can happen. Anyways, the city looks great, especially the old Main St. area. Also, the small sattelite farming town has a superb look to it. I wish Jeb good luck on his entry to Gotham County, and may a relationship with Clarissa be in the making.

Sorry that I didn't post earlier but I haven't been at the weekend which means that RLS is worse than before ...

The update-without-story:
I always enjoy a nice rural environment and especially yours! Just - how should the engine change its position to pull the train out of the little terminals? No switches there ...
The cabin on the small Island is really nice ... but maybe you could have guessed my favourite is the freight train inbetween the retainin walls at the shores of the PEG laketiles. GREAT!!!

The update-with-story:
The first pic is really beautiful! Perfect balance between wood, farms and seddlement! Couldn't make it better by myself!!!
Nice smalltown. My favourite is the block of Yitmics brown houses (although they sometimes drive me round the corner when they seem to appear EVERYWHERE!!!)
Again your fields: for flat ones they are really great! I especially like the intersection of the two streets with road at the apple orchard.

Now the story: No rollercoaster???? So harmonic, withouit any disasters? You surprised me a bit but the storyline fits the environment!

Let's see where it leads us to!!

Jamie, very nice update.  The story line seems to be coming into its own, but the pictures this time really stood out to me.  I really enjoyed the pics of Hobart's Hill especially the one where the rail line runs through the corn fields.  Very nice indeed.

Jeb's life looks much more positive now (actually, he never seemed to be worried about his life. He's a positive thinker...). Nice update again Jamie.

I like the detail you put into your cities, especially the stories you have for nearly every building and development. I really like that, it certainly adds more depth to your towns. And the pictures look great. My favorite one is that view of Hobart's Hill.

That is absoutly beautiful. I'm surprised no twist or turn. That is very un RHFish. But the pics are beautiful as always
