30 Euro and a lot of time of installing and upgrading... for nothing! This is what I get when I tried to play (offline)

Failed to initialize DirectX

That means that your computer does not support DirectX 10.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

I'll check it out, thank you :)

Hope that the new one will not prevent Simcity for playing. I wanna Anno and Simcity :D

By the way, I notice that the game has some cool cursors to use them :thumb:

They're not well known in America, and related design does virtually no advertising for them, but the series is pretty awesome and simulation-ish. the games all usually revolve around island worlds with extreme amount of trading. the maps are always designed so you'll never get the perfect island, and will have to start doing trading with other islands, eventually.

The game does have war, but this can be completely disabled for a purely peaceful game. The game also has disasters, which cannot be turned off all the way but can be easily contained once they begin, that is, if you get on stopping them immediately.

The game also has a system of elections held weekly. The elective parties are the Eco's, Tycoon's, and SAAT research group. Whoever gets elected determines what special effects are active that week. Sometimes the effects are good, sometimes they are bad, and sometimes it is a mix of the two at the same time.

This game does have a requirement to be online while playing (With the newest game, Anno 2070), because it keeps track of everything you've done and puts it on the Anno server.

check it out, if you haven't yet.

I play Anno 2070 but this is the 5th thread on the subject and the moderators are too busy to combine threads.

I try to log on to vote each day and do the current events missions.

I used to be a big fan of Anno 1503, but I lost interest with the newer ones, which I have most of them.

Anno 2070 I haven't tried yet, maybe I will one day if I come across the CD in a store (which is quite unlikely here in Canada/Québec) but meanwhile I am not interested.

A 1503 was great, well still is and it happens once in awhile that I still play it, just as the Settler's series.

I rarely post here, but I'm a 'Sim City' enthusiast and I just picked up this game. I've put about 10 hours into it so far and I think it's rock solid! A nice game to tide us city sim gamers until the next 'Sim City' arrives next year. So far, I'm halfway thru the scripted campaign and have started building underwater cities. Very neato!

I recently played against MeNotYuXD/TheDarkDJ and I also am playing the new Eden Project mission.

Anno 2070 Deep Ocean has been released. It features the Tech Geniuses. In order to support them, you need to expand underwater production chains. The expansion also brings the Science Forum, a monument that provides all building services (community, activity, information, and Government) for the entire island. This works best on a large island (more cost effective).

The new goods needed for Geniuses are immunity drugs (drinks), neuroimplants (lifestyle), labratory equipment (lifestyle), and biosuits (lifestyle).

I liked and disliked the anno series equally. I don't play anno 2070, uninstalled it when it turned into the same gameplay as the other anno series. I really dislike the fact that I need to plop 50 or so resource nodes and then plop 9 different gather points for each of those 50 resource nodes. It gets old quick especially and importing doesn't cover anything that I really need. I understand growing to my expanding city, but im growing my resources and not my city, and then I dread for my city to level up because then i'll have to spend hours rebuilding new resources to meet demands. If they simplified the resource part of the game and scaled the maps to be much larger then this game would have a much bigger following. I love the trade aspect, and the travel points, routes, fighting, ect but the resource building really blows.

This makes the game a "no buy" for me. I won't support games that don't allow offline modes. Always online is just a friendly way of saying "draconian DRM".

I am not certain about Deep Ocean but Anno 2070 only requires online connection for multiplayer, voting, achievements, and ark storage.

Bought it, but found the learning curve too steep and not immersive enough and just haven't spent much time with it.
