UBISOFT® SAILS INTO THE FUTURE WITH ANNO 2070TM

Award-winning franchise offers the richest Anno experience ever

London, UK – April 4, 2011– Today, Ubisoft announced Anno 2070, the latest iteration of the award-winning real-time strategy and simulation franchise. Set to release in Winter 2011 for PCs, Anno 2070 moves the Anno franchise into a new era, taking players into a world inspired by today’s challenges and tomorrow’s technologies.

Developed by Related Designs in collaboration with Blue Byte , Anno 2070 takes place in a near-future environment where climate change has forced humanity to adapt to rising sea levels that have left stretches of once-fertile land completely inhospitable. Players need to master new technologies while facing numerous ecological challenges to build their empires. Anno 2070 offers players the ability to be architects of the future and create the world of tomorrow.

“Anno 2070 is a very ambitious game that will feel both familiar and fresh to fans of the series,” said Caroline Stevens, EMEA Brand Director at Ubisoft. “Due to the game’s futuristic setting, the development team wasn’t restricted by historical boundaries and was able to dream bigger than ever before. It’s a new take on a great franchise that both newcomers and longtime fans will love.”

Key Features of Anno 2070:

•- A new era: while adhering to the fundamentals that made the Anno franchise a success, the near-future setting will bring numerous new gameplay mechanics, architectural breakthroughs, and all new challenges. Additionally, players will be able to build massive cities, the scope of which has never been seen in prior Anno games.

- A dynamic world: the world of Anno 2070 will evolve differently depending on each player’s playing style and choices. Players’ decisions will have an impact on the environment, the architectural look of their world, and the needs of their populations, leading them to refine and better understand the impact of their personal approaches to managing the world’s resources.

- Factions: players will be able to select between two factions when building their empires. Players can choose between an industrial and efficient course by joining the Tycoons or a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly direction by siding with the Ecos.

- Rich and varied game modes:

Single player campaign: a story-driven single player mode with a deep variety of challenges.

Single player “continuous mode”: the renowned endless game mode where the objective is to build the biggest civilization possible without time constraints.

Multiplayer and Online features: Anno 2070 will include innovative online modes offering players brand new possibilities to get in touch with gamers all around the world.

- Outstanding graphics: A new version of the game engine, developed specifically by Related Designs for Anno 2070, allows the game to deliver a breathtaking visual experience never before seen in the Anno franchise.

The game looks awesome. I am curious about the multiplayer modes/options, and most importantly what the DRM scheme is going to be. The DRM scheme could be a deal breaker for me.

It looks interesting. I might buy it in the future but I hardly have time for gaming anymore. I barely have time for archive binging.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

The game looks cool, but I think the gameplay might be exactly the same as previoues (anno 1701, anno1404)

Ofcourse you now have different factions and stuff, but I do not think it will vary.

The gameplay is great ofcourse, but I think I wont buy it.

graphics look really nice, the premise is kinda lame though, might be fun regardless.

Well, I'm a great Fan of the ANNO series, although the gameplay is almost always the same. Anno 2070 looks fantastic. Did you guys see the water texture quality in that video? Even Anno 1503 had better water than Simcity4. Hm.....maybe because it's made in Germany....;)

I will surely buy it, no doubt. I have all the others and still play all of them, but I wonder....

...will my computer support it? I don't think I have seen anything about the computer requirements. Does anyone know?

I don't think this version is heavier then Anno 1404, the textures look the same, the water texture is almost the same, just a bit more reflexion.

I liked anno 1404 for 2 days then got very tired of playing a continuous game. Adding farm after farm after farm gets super tedious. After the two days my math calculated about 500+ farms manually placed and 20 trade routes set and I got 200 more people and had to build another 20 resource buildings to catch up with the needs of the people adding about 80-100 more manually placed farms and probably another 6 ships to run trade routes. It gets old very quick.

I dunno, the game wasn't for me. If they removed placing the 3-5 farms for each resource building I would play again. Hopefully they do away with that in the new one.

I liked the starter of the anno series (was it 1402?) and the follow-up, then I lost track and interest.

But the first pictures/video of 2070 look promissing, mainly because all this pre-industrial settings get old very quick. Liked the music in those titles tho, I doubt 2070 will live up to their acustic beauty.

I am a huge fan of ANNO series. I never get tired :P Looking forward to this game too, though I would have loved it if they had made it in the current era (like ANNO 2007).

But it's in German! I don't know German! It sounds evil.

Looking forward to this, I started my Anno journey with 1701 out of a bargain bin. Fell in love, and was a first day buyer for 1404 and Venice.

I am really looking forward to the jump into the future. :bunny:

The water is different from 1404 in that it now has a foaming effect along the coast.

There is a BETA going on, info can be found here:

And they do a weekly twitter update, and have even been translating it into English here:

Oh and this is a pretty sweet wallpaper I found via google.

It looks a real nice game and even if it's Anno 1404 with the only change that it's futuristic I'll still play it.

As I tend to play Anno 1404 for six hours straight without breaks that shouldn't be a problem.

The only thing I wonder about is the music. The music in 1404/1701 was always very nice, fitting. Loved those songs, put those on my iPod as well.

I think I'm not really going to like the futuristic sound stuff :(

I noticed that one of their wallpapers (the one with 3 island cities) seems to have taken part of Seattle's Skyline for the basis of the background Eco City. The one to to front left seems to be all in game Eco buildings and the one to the front right seems to be mostly in game Tycoon buildings with some Eco buildings.

I played the demo as well. It is very interesting. The distillery had low production because the rice paddies had low production because of the acid soil effect because of the low eco balance because of the polluting tycoon buildings so I placed a third rice paddy. I also realized that tool production was too low with 1 iron mine, and 1 coal mine, so I destroyed 1 coal mine and placed a rotary coal extractor. Production skyrocketed and I completed the mission.
