Welcome to Simtropolis AlexRogers!

It seems like your missing a version upgrade.

What version do you have?

Hint: Right-click the simcity 4.exe file, select properties, and go to the details tab.

If it doesn't say 1.1.640.0, then I suggest getting the patch on this site: http://simcity.ea.com/index.php

Hope this info helps!

If I'm understanding you correctly, you have applied the EP1 update to the game? If so, did you also apply the SC4Update4BAT patch. That is need to allow the lights to appear on custom content. It is available at SC4Devotion (Link).

Thanks for the replies; unfortunately I cannot do anything until the weekend (that is when I go to my dads house), but from what I can remember I downloaded an update from the official website, the BAT Tool and GMAX; I think my version is 1.1.638.0 but I'm not entirely sure, I'll try out what you both said at weekend and tell you the results.

Once again thank you for the replies.

Ya, Im having the same problem and I think it is because I have a 1.1.638.0 version instead of the 1.164.0 version. Your previous link did not tell me where exactly was the download, so can you please tell where exactly is the download located on the site?

Use the link above. Accept the Maxis agreement. Scroll down to the BAT section and use the link. Scroll down and use the link in the second section.

Here's the complete guide to night lights custom BAT posted by Hordijk many years ago, i can't find the actual webpage but fortunately i kept an offline copy in my computer.

    Night Lighting for BAT's

    By: Hordijk

Please PM STomnibus if you have any questions regarding this article.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This tutorial will help you to get the night lights for BATs that you have downloaded.

This topic has been discussed numerous times in forums and it's question comes up repeatedly: How do I get the night lighting to work?

Now there are several steps to take and most of them happen at the official SimCity 4 site:

    http://www.simcity4.ea.com

There you will find the updates you will need for the night lighting.

*You need to have Rush Hour installed or Deluxe edition*

    Table of Contents

    1. Registration

    2. Installing SC4 Update

    3. Installing Gmax

    4. Installing BAT

    5. Bat Update

    6. Completion Further Problems

    1. Registration

If you are already registered, continue onto step 2.

If you are not registered, follow the link provided below and you will be registered as soon as you get the activation email.

*You need to be Registered with a serial number. It’s crucial*

    Go to: Simcity4.com

There you will start the registration process.

    2. Installing SC4 update (EP1)

After you have registered, there is an SC4 update for the game that will fix several bugs

and will allow night lighting with the BAT update.

The BAT update will be discussed later. Do this update first.

The update that you are going to download is called: EP1 Update 1

    Update: 1.1.638.0

    Date: Friday, November 14, 2003

    Update Size: 16Mb

To get this update follow the link below. (Reminder: you need to be registered first.)

If the auto update doesn’t work you can also manually update your game here:

Simply select your version of the game and press continue,

select the territory you live and translate that to your needed update pack.

After this update is downloaded, simply open the file and it will ask you to install it. Press yes

    and it will install.

    3. Installing Gmax

Now to install the BAT update, the Building architect tool (BAT) required. and that

    requires Gmax.

To download Gmax follow the link provided bellow:

    Click here http://www.turbosquid.com/Download/Index.cfm?FuseAction=Download&ID=L567271&DLC=XFM83W83US

It's about 20mb so it takes a while

    Install this.

    4. Installing the Building Architect Tool (BAT)

After Gmax is installed, you will need the BAT. It is also on the simcity4 site and can be downloaded here:

    Install this.

    5. BAT Update

Now it’s time for the BAT update which is located also at the simcity4 site:

    Click here http://simcity.ea.com/downloads/getfile_pri.php?filename=SC4Update4BAT.exe

Download this and install it by clicking on it.

*There are updates available for the BAT which you can find in the next link*

If you are interested in the updates for the BAT, follow this link:

    6. Completion

Once all of these steps are completed start up your game. Open up a city that has downloaded BATs in it (which have night lightning in them).

Run the simulation for a couple of months at day time then, go over to night time.

If the light’s show up correctly on the BATs, this tutorial has been a success for you.

    And you are done.

    7. Further Problems

If there are problems with this tutorial and you can’t get it right, please don’t hesitate to contact me by pm

otherwise by email and your answer should be answered the next day.

The EA website has since been closed down. Is there anywhere else I can get this update?

Use the EA Support button on the left side of the SC4Devotion home page. Then accept the user agreement to go to the Updates page. Scroll down to the BAT page link. The SC4Update4BAT patch is in the second listing.

Be sure you have applied the EP1 game patch first which can be found under the last link on the Updates page.

Yeah, I have this same problem....I don't know where to find me .exe file, so I don't know what version I have.

However, I tried to download the BAT Update thingy above on the SC4 Devotion page, but whilst installing it it said "Old File cannot be found," stopping at 67%...I know it needs the EP1 to be installed, but it has an ERROR when I click the link below the file....I also lost the original case of my CD so I don't know what my individual CD serial number.

I guess Im screwed huh..if not, PLEASE help me...

Get a new copy of the EP1 update here then.

I think you can send them an e-mail to get a new serial number to.

Yeah, I have this same problem....I don't know where to find me .exe file, so I don't know what version I have.

If you have Deluxe, it should be in the C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Apps folder.

...I know it needs the EP1 to be installed, but it has an ERROR when I click the link below the file.

It gives an error when you try to download or when you try to run it?

...I also lost the original case of my CD so I don't know what my individual CD serial number.

If you have the original game files (no no-CD patch or anything), the patches can be applied without the serial number. If you have patched the game, you will need to re-install it. I can't say for sure, but trying the patches out of order may mix things up.

Alright, Ill try these out. Thanks for helping a tech $%&^! like me :P

EDIT: It gets an error when I try to download it. Just clicking on the link, nothing pops up. It says unable to yadda yadda. :D

EDIT 2: I checked my version, said its 1.1.610.0. I'm now downloading the patch for Sim City 4 Deluxe Edition North American version directly from the link provided two posts above. Once its installed am I done? Or do I have to install Gmax, BAT Tool, then BAT Update as well?

EDIT 3: Finished downloading the patch and went straight onto downloading the BAT update without the in between steps. Ill download a BAT and see if it works. :D Thanks for all your help guys!

EDIT 4: Everything is working fine now! Thank you everyone for your help and patience! :D :D :D :D :D

Assuming you're trying to install the night lights patch, if you've done anything to alter the original game files (such as a no-CD patch), the official game patches can not be applied. If that is the case, you'll need to re-install the game and then apply the patches - be sure to back up your Region and Plugins folders to replace the new ones.

    Welcome to Simtropolis.

First, check the version number of your game. For BAT building night lights your game must be at version 1,1,640 or higher.

If this is OK, give the game a chance to light the buildings. In a heavily populated city this could take some time. You should also be aware that some BAT makers do not set up textures for window lighting.

For a full explanation, skim though the BAT Essentials tutorial in the Omnibus.

If you need help updating your game, also look in the Omnibus.

Hello, I already update the Sim City game and I went to properties and the version is already updated, but when I go to the game, nightlights still don't working. My population city ^ 81,000 ... and my region is more than 500,000.. My Sim City is original. Do I have to still register my product?

    ...My Sim City is original...

Do you mean you have SimCity 4 (not Deluxe or Rush Hour)? If so, then I don't know how you could apply the necessary patches. They are for SimCity 4 Deluxe or Rush Hour - as is most of the content available on the various exchanges.

I recently updated the game and BAT to 1.1.640.0, unfortunately now the game CTD's on start (doesn't even get far enough to show the EA opening animation). Is there a way to either fix this or undo the update without reinstalling (I'm at college about as far away from home as I can get)? I have the first Sim City Rush Hour update, Gmax, BAT, and BAT update all installed. Thanks for your help!

How well did the game run before you applied this patch? What are your computer specifications?

What resolution are you trying to run the game on? And have you installed anything like a no-CD patch?

Perhaps the intro movie was corrupted somehow by the patch. Try to run the game without the intro movie. To do this, you will need to make a shortcut to the game (actually, there should be one already on your desktop), and then edit the target so that it contains "intro:off". {The picture in this linked post} will show you how (you won't need the "sound:on" that is also present in that textbox).

Game ran perfectly fine before the patch no hadn't had a CTD yet, computer specs are fine (game was always decently fast at highest graphic settings), windows 7, 6GB RAM, Intel i7 2GHz, I tweaked the resolution around (recommended and normally run at 1600 x 900) and the crash still occurred (including with the "intro:off" added to the shortcut). Also emptied the plugins folders with no effect. I didn't install a no-CD patch, but I did create an image of the second disk (I had the deluxe edition) and ran it off of Daemon tools. One thing I did manage to find, in the config log, it lists the version as 1.1.610.0, while the application lists the version as 1.1.640.0, I tried changing the config log, but it denied me access to save it. Could this be where the problem is lying?

This behavior is usually the result of misbehaving multimedia gear. Check to make sure your sound card is connected and working. Verify your multimedia by running the program dxdiag from your run box.

To get rid of that silly movie add this to your target in the shortcut: -intro:off

Make sure that there is a space before the hyphen.

Do all the lights go off, or only some of them? At what Sim-time does this happen? What version of the game do you have?

You are up to date. All the Maxis lots should light. Many BAT makers do not do the programming needed to make window textures light, and sometime do not include exterior lights.
