I will start this thread by showing you my local station. I usually take the bus but the stop is really small and not worth showing. So I decided to show you my local subway station. It is the Alvalade Station in the Lisbon Metro green line.

Located in center-north Lisbon, Alvalade is a great neighborhood with nice buildings and well-planned main avenues. Behind the buildings we see some upper or upper middle-class city-sized villas. It is a quiet neighborhood even though I live in West Alvalade (the other side of Av.Roma) and that is good, and expansive (yeah that's right, but the house is inherited) but with a much bigger crime rate.

Finally, after you're tired of see me blabbing around, here are a few shots of Alvalade station.

250pxalvalademetrolx3.jpg

estaodealvalade.jpg

4444327127bcc128c1d1.jpg

FYI the last shot was took during the Lisbon Metro 50 years exposition in 2009/2010, where Alvalade's platform 3 (abandoned at least for the next 5 years) received an old Metro train (from the 70's and 80's`) so our trains are not that old.

So I hope you reply and enjoy each other's local stations and hubs

Noroton Heights, Connecticut. Metro-North Railroad.

dscn8060h.jpg

dscn8061.jpg

Not much going on here. It's a pair of platforms, a small station house, an overpass, and a couple parking lots.

The far track (outbound) is currently out of service due to construction, hence the temporary platofrm extensions.

Stamford Station is far more interesting. Plenty of pictures of that here.

As this has almost become a dead thread, I decided to re-dinamize it. I'll post a few more pictures.

The first pic is from another station close to my house. I'm talking about the Cidade Universitária Station in the yellow line of the Lisbon Metro. It was built to connect the Lisbon University (west of Alvalade) to the subway system.

    socratcu.jpg

    306369466468becd780.jpg

In the first pic, you can read "I'm not from athenian or greek, but a citizen of the world" (Socrates)

Also two more stations. The first one is a suburban train station, next to my old house in Oeiras, a nice suburban town with 47.000 inhabitants just 12 km west of Lisbon (20 minutes by train)

    300283685d96bb99e02.jpg

And last but not least the Bus Terminal of Ericeira, a nice seaside resort 60 km northeast from Lisbon and 4 km west from my family house, where I've spent most summers in the last few years. The city has no train or any other kind of public transportation so bus is the only way to reach Lisbon for about 1500 commuters that don't use car (the ones who use it are about 4500), because the highway is really expansive (about 7 euros per day).

    centrorodoviriomunicipa.jpg

So goodbye for now and please answer, I'd really like to see some inspiring stations.

I live equidistant from two stations on London Underground's Central Line.

The first and busier of the two is Buckhurst Hill:

    1214620_cb79eb7f.jpg

The second is on the 'loop' and is the least used station on the Underground. I give you Roding Valley:

    142157887_0d7df2b67d.jpg

Interesting fact about Roding Valley is that it marks the border between London and Essex; the platform on the north (on the left) is in the Essex District of Epping Forest whereas the southern platform is in the London Borough of Redbridge.

My metro station Herrmann Debroux, terminus of line 5. I there take the bus home :)

    Metro_Brussel_Herrmann-Debroux_perrons.jpg

The painting in the station is called The Fall of Troy, by Jan Cox. There is an interesting brochure on the internet about art in the metro of Brussels (here, use 'save link as...' if it won't open).

So I decided to re-dinamize this post with some pictures taken by me from my daily commute (on the phone, so you can't really expect much quality but they're not that bad)

First of all a green area in central Lisbon that I have the privilege to see every day (close to where I study). It is called Alameda D. Afonso Henriques (after the father and first king of Portugal) and it is a very central area in Northern Lisbon. You can also see the subway entrance in the avenue between the green areas

    http://img545.imageshack.us/i/foto0005m.jpg/

After walking about 2 minutes down Alameda, I catch the subway in the Alameda Metro station. This station is very large and very important as it connects the Eastern line (Red) with the Green Line (Urban line that connects north Lisbon to Baixa to Cais do Sodré train and ferry station, where regular trains to Oeiras and Cascais, and ferrys to Cacilhas and Seixal leave from) and it is used by 10,000 people a day in the worst of chances. It is a place where you can watch all of the different cultures in Lisbon. I couldn't catch an image of all the cultures because it was lunchtime, so that means almost empty station but there are 2 pics from this station

    http://img121.imageshack.us/i/foto0006mr.jpg/

    http://img859.imageshack.us/i/foto0007a.jpg/

So after this I catch the green line train to Telheiras (northern Lisbon). Here are some pics from the train and some stations (the first station is Areeiro and the second is Roma)

    http://img4.imageshack.us/i/foto0008rl.jpg/

    http://img713.imageshack.us/i/foto0009c.jpg/

    http://img600.imageshack.us/i/foto0010x.jpg/

So now I catch the 755 bus to Sete Rios. I usually walk home, but as I don't pay more to ride the bus (30 day pass) I decided to catch it and take some pics. The first pic is from Alvalade square, the second is inside the bus and the third one is from my neighbourhood's grocery

    http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/135/foto0011d.jpg/

    http://img859.imageshack.us/img859/203/foto0013i.jpg

Due to my few privacy issues I won't get any closer to my house but I hope you enjoy the pics

@Nico15821: I had always thought you were from NYC, because your avatar is a Lexington Avenue Express bullet, isn't it?

And here's my local commuter rail station, also seen in the "What is your favourite train station?" thread.

    rubi-fgc-24.jpg

Half an hour later of taking a train here (and having previously paid 2.15 €) you're in Barcelona city center!

It is. One of the two, anyway (5 train also fits the bill).

It would be REALLY great if someone could design a train station which looked realistic. As in a VERY long, but also very narrow lot (ie. 1-2 X 8-10) with platforms ON the train line, between the lines, etc. It would become So much more realistic if the station was only 2 tiles deep, one of them being on the line. that way, it would have a normal capacity, but no parking. It would also look more realistic, having the station platforms being the same length as the trains. I, unfortunately, have no clue on how to make something like this, or where to go to ask someone, so I'm putting it here. If you know anyone who could make this, I would be really grateful.

Thank you so much for reading this.

They exist! I have two favorite kinds of train station :

    Wutai-12Jun291294855449.png?t=1312092764

    Wutai East station (U1, U11, S1, S2, S6, S7)

    Inisheer-11Nov331294852087-1.png

    Inisheer - Lacombestraße station (S2, S7)

This isn't REALLY the thread to post in, though, you should have asked in the main general forum I believe. :P

The train station of Arnhem, the Netherlands.

This is how it is in a few years (hopefully):

    Arnhem%20CS.jpg

This is how it has been for the last ten years:

    centraal-station-arnhem-in-aanbouw.jpg

Luckily, the new tunnel opened the first of july so that is one breakthrough :golly: :

    DG_15143635_151436_2039342h.jpg

It's really nice. It should become an OV-terminal, which basically means that you don't have to walk large distances from the train to the bus et cetera, so I don't get the meaning of inventing a new name for this. :nyah:

Anyway, there coming a lot of shops in this station (also a warehouse :ohyes: ).

    Looking forward to it. :golly:

Yes, Arnhem has the bus and the train. There has been a request for money to build a subway in Arnhem and Nijmegen (that should be connected to eachother) but that has been denied by the state. I think that's stupid because the cities are growing to each other. If the growth goes on this way the cities should be one in about twenty years or something like that (the total population is 500.000 at this moment but that should be 1.000.000 in about 30 years). Trying to build a subway system which has a elevated rail for large distances is difficult when there is no space left.

The trains in the region are very busy and it's impossible to increase the amount of trains on the line between Arnhem and Nijmegen. Concluding: public transport in Arnhem and Nijmegen is a mess. :boggle:

I have two that I regularly use.

Tecoma station is the one I use when travelling city-bound. It's a 5 minute walk from me. Very basic, single track station and one of the least used in the entire Melbourne Metro (4th least used, with 310 boardings p/day).

    300px-TecomaStation2.jpg

However, I use Belgrave station to go to school. It is the terminus for the railway line and a local bus hub. It lies in the next town, with a 10 minute walk. BelgraveStation1.jpg

Because I live practically in the boundary between suburban and rural, rapid transit it a big challenge for me. I have managed to get by with local forms of transit. You all may have heard of the jeepney.

    cainta_jeepney.jpg

If I do need to get on the rapid transit system, I have two options. Santolan station is on the Purple Line, which goes to the downtown Manila area. To get here from home, I have to take one of the jeepneys.

    MRT2_Santolan_Station_2009_MC.jpg

The other station that I can easily reach, this time by bus, is the Ortigas station on the Blue Line. The Blue Line passes through the financial districts and government offices of greater Manila. That explains the picture.

    300px-Ortigas_Station.jpg

Ortigas station actually is very peculiar for me, because it is so near another station of the same line: Shaw Blvd station.

    52238496.jpg

    DSC-0015.JPG?et=xeEtkoNQPJTMXnYT3B920Q

Ortigas station is adjacent to the large blue mall in the middle of the photo. The blue mall is neighbors with the orange mall and the two towers towards the right of the photo, and Shaw Blvd station is attached to that orange mall.

I figure this is a cool thread to make an introduction. Long time listener and first time caller from Chicago, IL.

Western Ave. stop on the O'Hare branch of the CTA Blue Line on the border between the neighborhoods of Bucktown and Logan Square (~5 miles from downtown Chicago). By some metrics Western Ave. is the longest urban road in the USA, and this L station is right next to its giant 3 way intersection with Armitage Ave. and Milwaukee Ave. 3 CTA bus lines converge on this stop as well. I live less than a block from this stop, so between the L connection and bus routes the CTA can pretty much get anywhere I want to go. It doesn't hurt that the Western bus and Blue Line both run 24 hours, a day 365 days a year either.

    2836660473_116e9ba570.jpg

    oh_western_pagehead.jpg

View looking south down the tracks from the station. Complete with a Chicago staple: entirely too many city workers doing absolutely nothing. Since the Blue Line never closes any sort of maintenance can make for some pretty long delays when big chunks of the line go to 1 track.

    DART-station-Trinity-Mills-Carrollton-TX-2-27-12-2.jpg

This is the Trinity Mills DART Station on the Green Line in Farmer's Branch/ Carrollton, TX. A suburb of Dallas. Its a beautiful new station and you can see the I-35E Interchange with the President George Bush Turnpike in the background. This station is the closest DART station to where I live--a few miles off the Sam Rayburn Tollway, so its not exactly THAT convenient, but its a nice alternative. The DART rail system is still under construction and parts of the Orange Line are opening up later this summer!
