Why are there 2 different City Journal sections for SC4? Whats the difference?

One has a link at the top 'City Journals' and the other you get via the 'Forum' link, but it take you to a different page with a different page layout. Which should I use? Why is it different?

Please help as I dunno which to start mine off on lol

Thanks!

There's two different sections as both are different.

The "old" version looks just like every other thread in this forums, while the "new" version is more a showcase with comment feature rather than a thread in common sense.

in the new version, you post your cj update each time on a new page and then folks comment under it, this makes it much more easy to navigate as each update gets it's own page, compared to the old forumstyle version where you can have multiple updates on the same page.

which one to take is up to you. there's people that like the old style better and there's people that like the new style better.

Or you can use both.

About half my commenters prefer using the forum version.  The other half prefer the new section.  This makes it easier to accomodate everyone.  4.gif

Well, if you want me to comment and follow your CJ, I'd recommend you to post it in the new CJ section.2.gif

I think you should take Zeldagis' advice and post both places, or at least make the update in the new CJ section, and post a link in the forum section.

Good luck!9.gif

In my opinion, you better do it in both places. Copy and pasting what you've done in one of the sections in the other takes a short time and will allow you to reach to the double of the audience; because some users never go to the CJ section, while some others never go to the the CJ forum...

I do think it is almost a whole different crowd at both locations.  I do go to both myself.  If I want to catch up with a journal that has been around for awhile, I usually do so in the new area.  It's easy to click through.  But quite I often get in on the beginning of a journal in the older area.  And I may stay with it there, particularly if I enjoy the comments, and seeing the journal through others eyes.  18.gif

Another thing about the new section is the rating capability.  After so many updates, members can rate you with a score of 1-5.  This rating goes into a formula of some sort that, I imagine, includes views, etc.  No admins don't know the formula.  3.gif  Well, I am new, so I should say, this admin doesn't.  41.gif  Anyway, this formula determines the CJ ranking in that section.  So you can see how you stack up against other journals.

Albeit, the older section has members that keep track of this themselves, namely Ben's Top Ten +10, and Phat's Hottest CJs.  19.gif

Some folks use the section and forum differently... for example my CJ in the section is my more 'serious' long standing one... where my CJ in the forum is a bit more casual and 'fun'... but then there is a bit of cross over as well.

The main thing I like about the section is that all your updates are organised into an index automatically, so it is really easy to go back and find something if you want. Also the comments relate directly to each update. On the other hand in the thread style can be easier for keeping track of replies.

I suggest using both.
