I've searched the forums and didn't find a topic on this game.(I apologize if the topic is really out there.)

A new Tycoon game is coming out this Christmas. Here's a short description from Gamespot,
Tycoon City: New York brings the Tycoon series to the world of city building and social simulation, giving you a familiar venue in which to ply your creativity and entrepreneurial acumen: New York, New York. You'll get to populate the island of Manhattan with businesses, residences, and fun spots, reveal well-known landmarks, and take control of the city that never sleeps.

Screenshots can be viewed here; www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/tycooncitynewyork/screenindex.html

So, what do you think?1.gif

Hmm...looks good. A bit more detail than SC4, but you can't really get the big picture, like in SimCity.

The zoomed way out view looks horrible, but the up close looks awesome... Question is, how far can you deviate from reality? Will they allow mods? And SimCity 5 better look this good!

lotherius, I'm not really sure about mods. My guess would be if they don't give players the ability to mod, then the community will probably find a way to mod eventually.

Judging by the latest screenshots, the game is trying to stay as close to the real New York as possible. Yes, Washington Square Park looks too improvised and the skyline is pretty inaccurate, but those issues hopefully will be fixed when the game is ready to ship. So far they have captured the look and feel of New York pretty well.

Those screenshots have got to be concept art for the game - there's no way a Pentium III 1.2 GHz with 256 MB RAM is going to produce images like that.

actually the graphics look very much based on textures, and from what i can see, there appears to be a low poly count. so it may run okay on lower spec. machines (although i don't that for sure).

True... Those windows look strangly flat and the taxis - well - take a look - They're flat basically too - Im sure anyone could also get a few textures to change with night-and-day, even emit some light too... ?

Possible to run? yes. Disastrous? of course.
The game apparently relies on textures, what means it'll have huge ammounts of data to manage (textures and all), and I don't think that'll improve performance so much. Yet the screenshot is suspitious of postwork.
In another note, don't hold your breath, most tycoon games are badly-made scams...

That looks great, I hope simcity 5 is kinda like that.

“The American city should be a collection of communities where every member has a right to belong. It should be a place where every man feels safe on his streets and in the house of his friends. It should be a place where each individual's dignity and self-respect is strengthened by the respect and affection of his neighbors. It should be a place where each of us can find the satisfaction and warmth which comes from being a member of the community of man. This is what man sought at the dawn of civilization. It is what we seek today.”

Remember, this is being published by Atari, the same people who published RCT, not some cheap company nobody's heard of. From what I've seen and heard, it should be a great game, and with the amount of money being put into the game, it has the potential to be pretty cool.

Check the new screens. Parades! :D

Well, I'm trying to get the demo to install but I keep getting an error message. It says,

Setup has experienced an error. Please do the following:
    -Close any programs
    -Empty temporary folders
    -Check your Internet connection

Then try running setup again. Error code -600130.gif

People say the demo is full of bugs, maybe this is one of them.22.gif My computer is above the specs and I already tried to run in compatibility mode. Anyone else get this error?

Edit: never mind found a solution here, www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/tycooncitynewyork/download.html?sid=6142418

My computer doesn't meet the minimum system requirements either and it's a new computer.41.gif

Did anyone else who downloaded the demo have a wavy, distorted graphic's in SimCity? I can't seem to fix it. Here's my info:

Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) (2600.xpclnt_qfe.021108-2107)
    Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
    System Manufacturer: vpr Matrix
    System Model: 1600
    BIOS: Default System BIOS
    Processor: Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 1.60GHz, ~1.6GHz
    Memory: 512MB RAM
Page File: 190MB used, 1316MB available
    Windows Dir: C:\WIN
    DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
    DX Setup Parameters: Not found
    DxDiag Version: 5.03.0001.0904 32bit Unicode

Edit: I just found out my problem is most likely due a refresh rate that is too high for the game. The graphics are wavy and looked very compressed. The game is running find behind all that distortion, I can even hear the sounds and music. I suspect the demo switch the refresh rate when I tried to configure the settings. But when I checked Display just now it says the rate was 60 hertz, I think that's correct. I then changed moved it up to 70 but that didn't help.41.gif

    Edit: Never Mind. Fixed it.1.gif

I played the demo doesn't interest me because the roads are prelayed

Same here, but i'm hoping the full version will allow you to lay down the roads. I also hope it will let you go into a viewer mode so you can see how your district looks with the rest of NY.

I too have played the demo. When you zoom out, the buildings loose detail and become fuzzy. Also in the pics they give you on webs, you can easily tell what the signs say. But in the game, the signs a diffulcult to read. Still, I think it's a wonderful game and i think its totally worth it.
