I vehemently insist that not using the so-called "Oxford comma" is incorrect because it means that there isn't the same separation between all items in the list. I come at this purely from an OCD perspective rather than any functional argument. :P

As for commas in big numbers, I generally use the following rules:

1) commas are used for quantities ("population: 13,452"), but not for measurements ("13452 kg"), especially not if the measurement also has a decimal

2) the exception to the above is currency, where commas are appropriate ("$13,452.33")

OK, so now I am really messing with y'all...  as the colon colon insert action here colon colon, is generally used in forums and other written forms of communication (like msn) to indicate an action.    So in this instance, we would need to establish whether the recording of the post count number, at the top of the post is actually an action or not.   Also should there be a space after and before the colon colon, or should it be kept tight?

Please Discuss.

Wait, aren't prices always with commas? :P In Belgium, prices are always with commas. The euro-sign should be in front of the price, but that's not always the case. In Sweden they don't use commas nor points, it surprised me when I visited the country that they use colons:

9938: It's the same in Germany. Also they tend to write things as 0,5L, instead of 500mL.

Right, I thought of a tennis court, just shows how perceptive I am... :P

At my university, today's the deadline for handing in bachelor papers. Number of words in my paper: zero.

My courses seem to like giving me massive piles of assessment. Well, at least that's my weekend sorted.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

Oooh that sounds worse than typing it up and then having a power surge spike your computer!

Luckily I can still hand it in in second session, before July 24 :) I've had some, uhm, technical difficulties with the result that I only started working (on my actual subjects) 2 months before the deadline...

Right center field of PNC park.

Green Monster. ;)

No, that would be at Fenway Park, in Boston. PNC Park is in Pittsburgh.

Also, worth noting that no one in Boston actually calls it "the green monster", that nickname is used purely by tourists and baseball fans elsewhere. To locals it is simply "the wall".

9951: Ho ho, only messing with you. My 9th grade high school teacher was from Boston; can't remember what he called it. Big Red Sox fan though.

I wouldn't be surprised if we reach 10,000 by the time I get home from school.

Yes, that was PNC Park. Though my cousin was at Fenway yesterday. I'm not going to post his pics though!

Posts are coming in thick and fast now. By my reckoning it is 1:05am Saturday, I fully expect the thread to be finished by the time I next check in.
