And one more to move the report of the outage to the Department of Technical affairs because we don't need yet another thread about the page bulb bug.

Very logical and practical.   But it reminds me of a friend of my mother's.   This friend had a similar arrangement with her husband.  She had certain things on her to-do list and her husband had different things on his list.

Which worked out fine until he had a heart attack and died.  Suddenly, she had to figure everything out.  Not only things like where the light bulbs were but things like where the checkbook was and what bills needed to be paid. and where their stock portfolio was and what was in it.

A whole lot of extra confusion and hassle at a time when she did not need it.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

I would just like to state catergorically that in our house I change the light bulbs...

(My wife tells me which ones to change of course...)

My father is 48. A little young for a heart attack, but getting there.

My grandfather had a heart attack and died at 54, but he was a heavy smoker.

Suddenly, she had to figure everything out.  Not only things like where the light bulbs were but things like where the checkbook was and what bills needed to be paid. and where their stock portfolio was and what was in it. quote>

Well, it's my mother that handles the bill paying and my parents always discuss action on stocks and whatnot before taking it, so those wouldn't be issues.

On a similar note though, there's the matter of my Great Uncle who died a couple years ago. His wife had already been dead for several years (I barely remember her), and so he had the house to himself... and, well, when my dad's cousin went in there to go through things, he head his work cut out for him. He made several interesting discoveries. Besides a lot of old pictures we previously didn't know existed, there were also envelopes of money in various hiding spots all over the house. Couple hundred bucks behind the mirror on the bedroom dresser, a couple hundred more in the cabinet under the sink in the kitchen, etc. He was less than trusting of banks and wanted to keep cash stowed away in case his bank account failed or became inaccessible. And a lot of the bills were pretty old, as if they'd been sitting in their hiding spots for 20 or 30 years (or more). Theory was that he'd hide money and then forget about it.

The most amusing (although perhaps most disappointing) find was several thousand dollars worth of stock.... in Pan Am. 34.gif

(In case you're not aware, Pan Am went out of business in 1991.)

I remember Pan Am...  back in the 1970s when people went to America on DC10's...  in those days they would have to stop in Tahiti to refuel to make it across the Pacific from Auckland to Los Angeles.

Going to the airport to see someone off on a 'trip' was a major outing and quite an event.

Anyway back to the lightbulbs....

One webmaster (who is the only one that can change it and knows when he is going to change it... ) and 282,836 others to wildly speculate when, how, if, what  he is going to do it.

Brad2.jpgBrad: 1 light bulb, to go out at the worst possible time.

Brian2.jpgBrian: 3 people to all run into each other in the now dark room.

Brad2.jpgBrad: 1 to complain loudly about the darkness--

Brian2.jpgBrian: --one to complain about their injuries from running into the other two--

Brad2.jpgBrad: --and the third to actually go look for a replacement light bulb.

Brian2.jpgBrian: Only to trip and fall down the laundry chute--

Brad2.jpgBrad: --and end up plowing into a big hamper of clothes at the bottom--

Brian2.jpgBrian: --only to find out that he is now wearing a schoolgirl outfit, and the clothes he used to have on are now lost somehwere within the giant hamper.

Brad2.jpgBrad: And he still doesn't have a replacement light bulb.

Brian2.jpgBrian: So, the room is still dark.

A good lesson for those among us who are married. Several of my mother's friends had exactly the same problem. I try to teach my wife every detail, she's significantly younger than I am and I believe she should be prepared for a day when I have 'left the building'.

1 to run into the dark room with a new bulb after hearing the pandemonium inside.

1 other member to shut and the door complaining that the light from outside is hurting his eyes.

100 to yell at and tackle the guy who shut the door, only they cannot find him and instead take down the one who was carrying the replacement bulb, which shatters.

GLASS!! I hope you all have your shoes on. hehe....

One who was out of the loop for a long while to come back and be greeted by everyone who knew him, and ask, "What's been going on?"

1,000 to all simultaneously tell him the story of the light bulb, each with a different version of it, with parts left out, added, or made more interesting

50 to cut their feet on the glass because they weren't listening to DITRO's warning.

...and 14 just to sit around and enjoy the show.

Just how large is this room anyway? 1,000+ people in one room all lost and in the dark? (sounds like my school lunchroom...)

...Another 10 people outside of the room to debate whether or not to keep the 1000+ people that are in the room in the dark or not.

Brian2.jpgBrian: The guy wearing the schoolgirl outfit--

Brad2.jpgBrad: --who still can't find his original clothes--

Brian2.jpgBrian: --flips a switch in the basement, turning on the emergency lights--

Brad2.jpgBrad: --which dimly illuminate the clowded room that everyone else seems to be in with flickery light.

Brian2.jpgBrian: Now, how long beforen the emergency lights go out?

One ST Related moderator to decide that we don't need two stickied topics to report lightbulb outages and to make sure that all related topics, including those whining about how bright the bulb is shining at any particular moment, is merged to the appropriate aforementioned thread.   16.gif

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.
