The way to make TNT (without cheating) is to kill creepers and get gunpowder. So you can't get TNT on peaceful mode. On the crafting table, make an X with five gunpowder and fill in the remaining spaces with sand.

I haven't made it yet. I like not being killed to much to play on anything other than peaceful. Maybe someday I'll play on another difficulty for more than about five minutes.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

Just make a trap or something so the animals that do try and kill you fall in it. Then lure them in. Its what i did when i didnt cheat.

Its actually not that hard to avoid enemies. They generally only spawn in a certain light level, so just make sure everything is well lit, so they wont spawn. Except when youre in the other dimension thingy. Then light doesnt matter.

But its to much of a pain to go after creepers. I dont like them suicide bombing me <_<

From what I have heard and seen, the best way to deal with them is with arrows. 5 arrows will kill them. So kill those spiders and zombies and chickens, cut down those trees, and dig up that gravel!

Brigadier: Hmm... Jenkins!

Jenkins: Sah!

Brigadier: Chap with wings gunpowder there. Five rounds rapid.

About that minecraft.gawilson.net server, I can't seem to get onto it. Is typing in the IP address the only thing I need to to or do I need to download something or maybe log into minecraft.net or turn on some setting on my computer (I have a Mac).

Thanks

    Hey everyone

glad to see your house on our server, Astronelson

For TNT, I built a very large mob trap in a different area of the world. You will need to use the portal back to "old spawn", then walk into the big glass dome behind the portal you land at. The water in the bottom is also a portal and will take you to the new world.

From there past the house with the wall of fire and cactus(its my house ^_^), there is the mob tower. Be careful and don't go inside the spawn chamber, its been blown up like 3 times since I built it due to creepers getting agitated0if you make a skeleton aware of your presence, its arrows may engage a creeper and start a mob on mob fight(yes the game AI does that). With that many together you can get a brawl and multiple explosions. Luckily we do have backups...

But yeah, stand in the little receptacle area where water flows out, and after being afk for maybe 10 minutes you'll get enough tnt to make 2 blocks or so. I suggest wandering in and out to increase spawn rates in the chamber because mobs do not spawn close to you.

I take it your new to multiplayer?

You just type minecraft.gawilson.net in the IP address bar. No downloads required. It should work, if it didn't then it was either down or the minecraft.net servers that authenticate your user profile were down. Happens quite often, especially on days when updates come out.

I'm glad to see more interest

Minecraft looks better and better every time I look at it. I would love to buy it but right now I have a 20 question assignment due (over the internet) tonight and I cannot figure out how to make half of the derivative functions I need to input.

Oh thanks about the trap tip. Im currently playing on easiest, so no mob spawns anyways. Im having way to much fun building large buildings. Its just to bad that building stuff out of sandstone takes a while. Digging up all the sand/sandstone takes a while :P

And Multiplayer sounds interesting. Think Im gonna take a look at that too :)

Just got Minecraft yesterday. I'm quite pleased with it, though I've got it on peaceful so I can explore around my world. Currently exploring a large mine I found not too far from my spawn.

that server posted early in this thread isn't working right now. The guy who runs it needs to reboot the thing and update the version of the game.

If anyone else here plays multiplayer and wants to invite me to their favorite server, I'd appreciate it :) Too bad we don't have a simtropolis community one, I can't pay for or host one though like some lucky people can.

Virtual machine inside a virtual machine, interesting:

    http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Minecraft-virtual-machine-redstone-CPU-Salaja-INVedit,12626.html

In RL, the term "bug" was coined by an engineer who found a moth stuck in a mainframe, which was preventing the computer from operating.

In Minecraft, it won't take for long for "creeper" to be coined when creepers start blowing up people's hand-made computers.

Did you get their name(s), so I know when they log in?

EDIT: Hmm, it appears to no longer be on peaceful, and someone's griefed New Spawn. Most of my house is gone. Probably a fire, judging from what was left.

Well, names like the first two explain the evidence of things being burnt. I have noticed a few lag problems too, but that's probably on my end.

Is there a backup kept in case of things like this happening?

Damn lag. It gets even worse around Cacks' redstone bohemoth of laggyness.

    Hi all,

The server mentioned in the post belongs to me, first I want to apologize for the actions of a certain user to some of you, the player in question was already on a final warning for his behaviour so I have chosen to ban him.

With regards to the griefers, I take semi-regular backups, I have restored the damage without much loss this time, I have also installed a mod that will let me roll-back damage on the fly in the future.

Finally I have turned off mobs for now so new people have time to settle in without having to look over their shoulders.

I look forward to seeing some of you online!.

Actually, you can get enemy mob items from a dungeon, which still spawn when playing on peaceful(as I fell into one last night). Still really hard to acquire enough to make anything, but it's not impossible.

That said, I did cheat for gold to make powered rail using the command line mod, but I also use the mod to map out coordinates and alter my spawn point to be closer to my buildings.

Nice thing is that killing creepers is actually very easy. Don't be intimidated by them, despite their reputation among players and dramatic way of attacking they are probably the 2nd easiest mob to defeat behind zombies. Just go hunting somewhere that you won't mind craters. Get a decent weapon and walk backwards, they are slower than the player and will never reach their flash point if it you keep moving. Rounding them up is easy

The most dangerous enemy in this game IMO are spiders followed by skeletons. Spiders jump on you, they are really fast if not faster than the player, they take a lot of damage and you need a proper weapon, they can climb walls, their AI is cheap and sees through solid blocks when pathing, and they will chase you out of caves into the daylight. Skeletons are a pain and can be somewhere inaccessible while they shoot you. This is what I save arrows and my flint and steel for.

Mob AI in this game is pretty lame for some of the enemies(creepers are smart and can find hiding places, nether mobs are a bit sophisticated), which is why I play on hard and am not a scaredy cat like you guys. To experiment, I made a big dark room and put cactus in the middle. I walked around in circles until a herd of mobs was after me, and could get them to actually walk into the cactus until they all died.
