So as new snapshots come in, lots of exciting features are being added. Stuff that honestly is better than the more RPG-ish additions that came around 1.0 in Novemnber.

Cats, jungles, and 256-tall worlds are the big ones.

I love jungles. The trees and vines are great, especially with the new wood and leaf blocks. Cats, however, I don't like. The fact that they scare away Creepers ruins it for me. Mobs rarely drop certain tools now, which I have no opinion about, really. Zombies will break down doors in Hardcore and Hard difficulty, which is terrifying. Also, mobs will not fight eachother anymore; I find this disappointing.

If mobs won't fight each other, how does one acquire disks? I like cats though I think that wolves and dogs not to get along with ocelots and cats (will keep distance, like creepers or actively fight). I also think that chicken killed by cats should not drop raw chicken because that would be what the cats ate. I like the new map changes.

Well, with yesterday's new snapshot we have redstone lamps, and... frisky testificates. I like redstone lamps but I won't even comment on the latter.

I don't bother with the snapshots, I just wait for the full version.

But I'm really anticipating 256 high worlds.

Oh, and mobs are finally getting better AI. And it only took... how long? :sly:

I actually really like the iron golems. Have you seen their movement? They're not the basic crap we've always had. Granted I still despise the villagers, and the iron golems server no other use than to protect those we hate. . .

I'll admit their movement is impressive. However, I think they look quite stupid, are pointless, and I hate that they are a way to get free iron. What happened to mining? The game is called MINEcraft, Jeb.

Everything sounds great! Iron is now a renewable resource so I won't feel bad about sheering colored sheep instead of breeding and culling colored sheep.

If you dislike iron being renewable, build new Iron Golems; it takes far more iron to build them than you can get from slaying them. They are also really hard to kill

Well, minecraft forums are in Read Only Mode and no longer work properly on the IPB app on my phone (which was recommended for me for this forum here) so my MCF viewing has taken a nosedive.

I heard somewhere that Notch is returning to Minecraft. I'm not sure if this is true or not, though.

I have mixed opinions on whether I want him to return. On one hand, Jeb has added a lot of new updates since he took over, he added jungles, and I'm not sure Notch would take the game in a good direction. (Not like Jeb really has, either. :meh:) On the other hand, Notch could possibly take the game in a good direction. Maybe he got some good ideas during his break from coding...

I'd like to see additional ores in minecraft, possibly a currency (gold coins, maybe) that can be used to purchase/sell items or trade with Testificates (Testificate shopkeepers?), additional biomes, better biome transitions (swamp to desert is horrific), additional items and blocks, and maybe more mobs. Of course, a lot of this can be obtained through mods, but I'd still like to see them in vanilla Minecraft.

I wish I could have experienced Minecraft back in "the good ol' days" of Alpha, and experience it grow from Alpha to Beta. I bought the game right after 1.8 came out, which is also when I found out about the game. I feel like I've missed a lot of the good times others had playing older versions, with all the wacky bugs and cool contraptions that don't work anymore. Don't get me wrong, Minecraft is still a great game, but I feel it has lost that "Alpha: good ol' days" feeling. Whether Notch returns or not, I hope Mojang can make Minecraft better.

    You didn't miss much.

I guess one thing that's okay to miss might be the green cheery landscape. Since biomes came out there are few bright and happy landscapes left, now the grass and trees are more realistically shaded and subdued. Honestly though you shouldn't miss the broken minecarts, the lack of working health or mobs in SMP, etc. Also the majority of inventory glitches caused item loss, stories of people duplicating stuff on servers intentionally are exaggerated, IMO.

I'm not a fan of the potion and magic part of the game or the way the End was implemented, but overall its a better game than the way it started.

It's not that notch doesn't have good ideas. He does. It's just that he fails to implement them correctly, if at all. He has ADD or something. However, you would probably start to get "out of it" after working on the same game for so long. Which is probably why he let Jeb take over. Jeb has actually put in place his ideas and, more or less, completed them.

Minecraft did not pique my interest until "Coming Soon: Aether Collab," Millénaire, and IndustrialCraft (Aether and IndustrialCraft did not play nicely together though so I had 2 types of saves: village and industrial tests, and Aether/Norman themed). Of course Anno 2070 and CityVille took more of that away to the point I only use MC Edit and Creative Mode (sometimes I use TMI to switch modes though single player commands would make TMI superfluous and World Edit is used on my friend's server).

That's the big thing with indie game development, it's completely different from the development process that larger games developers follow. Unfortunately this means that we end up with "ooh, this is shiny, I should add it" features in Minecraft where the bugs don't get fixed but we get other content too.

Notch does tend to get distracted easily, but I think this is part of where the whole indie sort of thing falls flat on its face with a lot of things... there's no formal sort of process at all. He's been working on a lot of other things at the same time as well, which would've affected his participation in the Minecraft development process.

Additional ores would be lovely. But it would mean, once again, throwing out your existing worlds if you can't be bothered going exploring for more, new chunks with the new ores added.

I wouldn't mind seeing emerald or jade ores, we need green tile blocks. Stained glass would be awesome too.

I wonder what will come in 1.3, though.

Stain glass cannot be too difficult, just make them damage values.

1.2.4 has a lot of updates.. lol :P

thought i'd share an update to my minecraft city! :D

    :D :D :D

    Great city there city_master!

I love minecraft and has played it since late alpha and I never get bored of it. Now the server me and my friends are running will soon celebrate one year, and we have become one of Swedens largest minecraft servers which I find pretty amazing since when we started out we where like four people playing togethere. But we have a long way left to become as huge as some of the international servers. If we ever want to be that large that is.

My friend's server for PlanetRandom.freeforums.org has a whitelist and a maximum of 20 players (cheapest server we could find). We got a new map for the full release 1.0 and I am working on a new map for 1.2.

I've been mucking around with Technic pack and millenare for a few days.

Seriously, why hasn't millenare been added yet? It's amazing. He's added villages, I'm sure adding some form of upgrading system wouldn't be too hard...

To anyone who uses MCEdit, is it possible to use the program to add blocks to the bottom of "super flat" Creative worlds? I've tried to do this a couple of times but I haven't gotten any results. Is there something I'm missing? I kinda hope there is.

Adding blocks to the bottom? What do you mean. Do you mean raising the world height? Or adding ores underground.

How on Earth did I not know about this thread. I gave up SC4 to create cities in minecraft (just pop into chat and see them :P ) As for adding blocks to a superflat creative world... I would suggest using something more basic, like (in game) voxel sniper and just creating a small hill using the blob brush and then using the erode-fill tool to expand the hill, making it flat and large. Another method would be to use mc edit (or in game world edit) to cut and paste your house several blocks higher, then create a square of earth blocks underneath. The reason why you cannot add blocks to the bottom of the superflat generated world, is because this would be adding blocks below y=0 , which would break mine-craft probably.

Oh okay, that makes sense. I suppose I'd better get on that before I put too much stuff on my map... hopefully I haven't passed that point already, lol :boggle:

Adding stone and such underground, I guess. You know how super flat worlds only have about 5 layers of dirt before bedrock? What I was trying to do was add more layers of stone to build basements and stuff in.
