Sorry for the late repsonses, I'm still trying to recover from my Saturday night/Sunday morning bachelor party.  My body just can't take the abuse like it used to...14.gif

Ardecila, I'm not sure how you fixed it, but it looks great!  I won't have time until later in the week or possibly the weekend to work on it, so no rush to get it back to me.  If you're bored and want to continue to do some work on it, feel free!

Dolfan, even though you didn't come out and say it, I will assume you're from Miami and thats the metro area you're talking about.  I would like to see a picture of that building you're talking about.

Wolverine, I hope to see the site back up and running with updates soon.  I will try to find some time to make the page for my building, but it's tight for me until after Aug 15th.

I am giving the BAT a try, and since we have lost Farminsim, I decided to give Comerica Tower a try, I have just the one wall started so far and would apreciate  any comments on what it looks like so far.

This is a good start Jon! Keep it up!!! The Comerica is one of the defining pieces of the skyline and I'm sure it will look very good once finished. Nice to see someone else giving this a try!

Hey baldy, hangovers suck don't they? I'll give a quick story. I went to a bachelor party last year where we rented a friggin bus, a greyhound like bus, to tool us around town to varying bars, the expensive ones...2.gif Anyways any time we were in transit we had a keg on the bus to keep us going. I have no idea how I got home that night but I remember feeling it for 2 days afterwards. So I know to some degree how you must have felt...

As for my progress...well RLS ( real life syndrome) has hit me again. Work as started trickling in again and I just had to replace my brakes on my Explorer, rotors and pads. Not too much fun as I did them myself. I hope to resume batting in the next day or two as I would like to actually contribute something to this project. My patience is wearing thin with myself as I'd like to bat a bit more but oh well...that's life...

Jon, looking good so far.  A couple of comments.  First, the roof needs to be steeper.  Second, the sections where the windows are on the main wall are rectangular, not square. See the pictures.  I also have a bunch more pictures that can help you with the entrance or other parts of the building.  Personally, I wouldn't worry about the revolving doors.  They are set back and if you make flat doors, no one will be able to notice in the game.

Lastly, to do the bend, build the flat wall and add a bend modifier to it.  It's down toward the bottom of the list.  Once it is bend you can move the veritices to match up with the wall.  It is more difficult than it sounds and I had to ask for help on this because it was not working right on my machine.

I have created what I think are some pretty neat looking revolving doors and added a texture.  Thanks for the info on the bending baldy, I will also try and do something with the windows and roofline./idealbb/files/comerica

I have to agree with baldy here. It seems that you know what must be done to make it look right. Other than that it looks very nice and you seem to be progressing at a record pace for the BSP. Keep up the good work!

Sorry to bump the thread, but it appears as though I am done.  I have included a pic that shows the roof, entrance, and the corner windows.  I will not be posting it until you all feel that it is right, I want the best side of Detroit here, no half way job.  I will post a pic of the whole building if anyone wants to see it.  /idealbb/files/new

Jon, I am amazed at how quickly you have been able to get this done!  There are a couple of things that need to be fixed if you are going for accuracy.  The windows are still incorrect.  In the large rectangular area that holds the window is 3 high and 2 wide.  The bottom row of 2 are windows, the middle row of 2 are black plates and the top is 2 rows of windows again.  Most buildings alternated like this due to floor, then window.  They chose an interesting appoach on this because the building facade is used for the floor on every other level and they set dark glass in for the others.  Pretty cool idea if you ask me.  You could probably space these out as .9 for the floor and 1.1 for the windows.

    /idealbb/files/comerica

Also, these sets of windows are set into the wall, so when you extrude of the main wall, they shouldn't be there.  Being that all of them are the same, this shouldn't be too difficult with the modeling.  for textures, I would use a 90% grey for the space in between and a 50% grey for the windows.  They are really tinted and you can not see any thing through them so they really look solid in color.

The entrance looks great, but the real entrance is set back into the building, see picture on the top of this page and the one below.  I can't really see what the building looks like in the lower portion, but here's a picture of it.

    /idealbb/files/comerica

The roof isn't one flat slope.  There are windows for the upper floors.  I can't include one because I don't have one but you can find a bunch here.

I'm not trying to dawg your accomplishments, because you have accomplished a lot in a short amount of time and are about to do something none of us could do, finish a project!  It sounds like you want to get it right, so I'm just trying to point out areas that aren't correct to the actual building.

I have lots of pictures, but not a whole lot of time to work on my building.  If you need any help with research, let me know.

I would like to see a draft render image if at all possible to get an idea of what it will look like.  ardecila did one of mine and I couldn't believe the difference in quality, plus it give you an idea of what will be seen in the game.

    Keep up the good work!

    BD,
I used to never get hangovers in college, but they have been coming more frequently and now I know what everyone was complainng about!  The biggest problem I have now, though, has to do with my stomach.  I take a pill every day for it, but sometimes it just acts up and if I drink a lot it will cause me great pain.  And no, I don't puke, although sometimes I would like to.

Argh, I'm having major issues. I can't get GMAX to install properly for god knows why! It's beyond frustrating at this point. I'm begginning to question the ability of my gf's father on building a computer. It seems this new one is buggy. Anyways if any of you could look here and then help me out it would be greatly appreciated! Here is the link https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=53319

All right, I've figured out my gmax problem. Wow what a pain!!! I should be back to batting shortly. Here's the story...

For whatever reason gmax absolutely refused to open on my computer for god knows what reason. Just when I thought all was lost and I'd have to give up and let her dad work on it for an extended time period a present fell in our lap in the form of a new/old computer. Dominos, where my gf works, is in the process of a major overhaul at the HQ, including new computers. So they are just giving their old ones away, literally, at no cost to their employees. They're pretty nice too, they seem to run just fine. So now I can let her dad work on the one he gave us until it works right and I have this one in the meantime. So I now am back up and running....wooo...hooo!!!!!!

By the way if anyone ever has a problem with their files saving or not opening properly...I now know why that happens and know the fix!

baldy, I'm yet to download the BAT. Maybe this weekend. It's just a hassle to download on a Mac with 56k then taking what I downloaded and moving it to my incredibly slow PC that SC4 is on. I would d/l with my cable modem but apparently simcity.com doesn'y like Mac OS 9 with IE 5.1!26.gif Yeah and my PC internet is broken also. We have no idea what the problem is and the only thing my dad says will work is cleaning out the HD and going from there. Which mans losing everything for SC4!26.gif32.gif26.gif I have to go through this with downloaded BATS and Mods also!26.gif

EDIT: If anybody still has the BAT and/or Gmax startup programs would you mind ataching them and e-mailing them to me so I don't have to through with this. Please.12.gif

Okay I know the picture is not all that great. This borrows heavily on the tutorial but I figure it will look good as a pizza joint when finished.

There's the logo I was looking for.9.gif The sign in the front looks much better now. The door doesn't seem right though. It looks to much like a screen door. How about adding some more glass to it and taking away some of the wood paneling? Overall it's good. Nothing spectacular, but then again, you'll never find a spectacular looking Dominos.18.gif You're aiming for realism and you hit the bullseye (
Also, I was thinking of having a BSP logo. sargaentcm and the Buffalo team have a logo that they put in the picture of every BAT they upload. It would be nice so people know that what they see is a BSP BAT. What do you guys think?

All right... I'm not a big fan of the door either nor am I a big fan of the texture on the HVAC units (although I love it on the exhaust fan3.gif). I did render the model and it does look fairly good though and I put it through the LE to see how it looked.  More work is still needed such as a sign out front...the sign on the building....the doors...and the texture on the HVAC unit. The last three are not as important to me as the sign....hopefully this weekend brings good results

Looking good BD! I really think it needs some more roof junk. Just kidding, we already know your thoughts on that. It's nice to see some progress. I can't wait to see a rendered version or it in the game. What size lot is this going to be?

Whatever happened to Jon and his work on Comerica? Is that like to bermuda triangle BAT project? We haven't heard from Farminsim is a long time either ......37.gif

I still need to get my model back from Ardecila, so if you're out there, could you send it back to me. I will not be able to attempt the new BAT install until around Aug 17, so my project is really on hold until all of the wedding stuff is over. What a pain!

I put it on a 3x3 CS$ lot. That may be  a tad too big. The model itself is 16x24 so it really could go on to a 2x2 lot but of course I want a parking lot and a few props here and there. It has been rendered although I still amy play with the model some more and re-render it.

You know that Comreica project is kind of like the plague isn't it?

I'm curious as to where wolverine has been as well....

Sorry I'm not ignoring you ert, just having issues with my bat. All right I need some help. If I'm not mistaken the Capacity Satisfied heading in the Properties Editor of the Plug In Manager is what shows how many jobs there are?

Basically I want to know what these numbers mean and what they do--- Take for example 12560 73   Can someone explain this to me? It would be greatly appreciated. Basically what I want to do is customize how many jobs my bat has....say 35 jobs....

I played around with the model some more and this is what it has ended up as. I changed the front and back doors andchanged the sign back to a red text which came out a little blurred but it is much crisper in the BAT itself. I think it came out pretty nice. Just so you know I was shooting for realism with it. I have also made a sign for out front as a custom prop. I finally figured out all the lighting and it looks pretty good.
