You are correct on the roof.  You can also go to forgottendetroit.com or kales76.com for some good pictures.  The part you are talking about that is curved is on the the right side as you look into the indentation.  It is where the stairs are located and originally used natural light for lighting the stairwell.  Its a very cool feature that I haven't seen in any other building.  If I were you, I wouldn't worry about this because it's a lot of work for something that won't be seen and most people won't really care.  The brick wall was cleaned a little bit, but is still black from where the previous building stood.  PM me with your e-mail address and I can send you some pictures.  Would you like me to work on some wall textures for you?  For buildings like this, I am finding it is best to do your own custom texture that will be the size of the entire wall.  This allows for showing some of the detail on the wall without having to model it.  Let me know.

 

As for my list of projects that I will attempt in order:

Detroit police headquarters in downtown.

Cadillac Place (former GM headquarters in new center)  I started once before.

150 west jefferson, aka the Madden Building.  Have to redo everything.

There are several others I've been thinking of too, but this my for sure to do list.  As I stated before, I need to figure out all the subtleties first and get the lot editor working properly

The painting is an advertisement paid for by Nextel (atleast for the Barry, stanley cup and Yzerman) and the change it periodically.  I think Yzerman has been there since 2001, so I'm sure they'll be changing it sometime soon.

Yes... that mural is actually a billboard advertisement. Although, I'm not completely positive if it was changed simply for an update or if it changed hands. I think it might have been a Nike ad when it was Barry Sanders.

I've been checking in from time to time, but my new internet is so slow at home that I find my patience wearing thin before I get very far. Since I'm in Saginaw for the rest of the week, you may hear a little more from me. (Thank goodness I talked Dad into the cable modem a couple years ago!)

Here is the front entrance. The middle is for the lobby and the other 2 doors lead to seperate retail stores. All 3 doors are set back from the wall though you cant tell from this pic.

 

Allan, I looked at your Detroit pic thread, you got some nice pictures there. I also saw from that that you live in Southfield. I drive through there 5 days a week and it always makes me sad. Detroit wouldn't be tearing down all its skyscrappers if Southfield hadn't built theirs. You seem to know a lot about whats going on in Detroit, do you know how much the Kales apartments are going for? It would help us determine what residential they are.

Hey guys, just thought I'd let you know I was nearly 90% finished with completing the Dime Building. I was going to suprise you all with it, and I've been working on it all day. But I never saved it. I have absolutely no idea why I never saved it!! Well, I went to attach a few splines and the the program sat for awhile. Then my processor status dialog popped up and said my computer was reaching 200 degrees F and then it got hotter and hotter and hotter, and Gmax continued to do nothing, and then --- pshhhhhh ----- The computer shut off. The processor overheated to the point of melting, and now I am getting damge reports. So it appears I will get my third new processor on this 1.5 year old computer. I'm going to have Sony downsize the processor again. It was originally at 3.2 Ghz inside of a laptop, which I thought was ridiculous. It was lowered to 3.0 ghz, and then when that one went out, I got a cooling system, which made things better, but it's back at my dorm, so my laptop has no way to keep itself cool. Therefore, unless I am able to use another computer, the website and the Dime Building have been cancelled. Sorry all.

Speaking of bad crap, guess what I did? For some reason I thought my last final was from 4 - 6 today and I go up to campus, and the room is dark and the door is locked! So I run over to the econ dept. thinking I can find out what room the exam's actually in, but there's nobody in the building! I check the syllabus online and find out that the exam was actually from 10:30 - 12:30 this morning!!! (I'm still not sure why I thought it was 4 - 6.) Well I freaked! I e-mailed the professor, and thank God I'm on real good terms with him, because he actually e-mailed me the exam, and allowed me to take it and e-mail it back to him! Man that was close!! But talk about a real nice Christmas present!

Well, the laptop works, but not very well. The processor is damaged, and it shuts off a lot. But since I am home on break, I can use my parents computer which is a new Dell desktop and can handle the abuses GMax dishes out. This likely won't happen again to my computer if I just use my cooling system, but I didn't think I would need it since this model wasn't that big. But then again, I had other stuff running at the same time.

So I restart on the Dime building, and it should not be so hard because I remember how I made it! I'm just going to need help with light nighting issues when it comes time, but I'll scroll back up for Bud's info.

nofunk, join the party who missed an exam. My umich web-based email is malfunctioning and not receiving incoming messages. I don't use Mulberry which is more reliable (now I do). But anyway, I went to show up for this exam, and the room was dark. I looked all over Mason and Haven halls and couldn't find it. Later I emailed the professor and told him I couldn't find the room because it said room to be announced on the syllabus. Well, the professor told me he had sent it out in an email and it said I had received the message. So I went to the Fishbowl at Angell Hall and checked my email, and sure enough, my inbox had 120 new messages! One of them being his. The professor was very nice and let me take it in his office alone, and just lock the door after I was done. I got an A on it. YAYY! I know you all will enjoy it. To view building descriptions and such, click on Building List The interactive map was never finished, as well as some of the buildings. But I plan to finish it in the future. I got an A on that project too, despite it not being finished!

Wolverine: Wow... that really sucks about your laptop! I'd say it sucks about the Dime Building, but I didn't want to sound insensitive! The project looks amazing... I can see why you got an A on it. I didn't look much yet, but I can tell it's something I will spend some serious time with later!

Since there is no live hockey to watch... I caught the game seven against Colorado on ESPN last night. That was a great game to see again!

Hey guys, guess what? I pulled an early Christmas present today and got tix to the Lions/Bears game on Sunday. WOOHOO!!!

EDIT: I also pulled a Roy Williams game jersey card.

For those of you who don't know what that is: A game jersey card is a sports trading card with a swatch of a athletes jersey embeded into the card. They're quite cool.

I am really upset that I can't get my Clock Tower to turn out right. For some reason I can't figure out only one side seems to show up when I put it on a lot. The sides are all .3 thick so they should be showing up and I moved it to 0. I dunno

I have a funny story (well I think it's funny) to tell you guys. So I was playing SC4 and I was building up my downtown area when I noticed a giant brown box (you know those simcity.com boxes show up when you don't have something you need) and I was like...What? So I looked at it and it was the UAW I never put in the game. I put it on a lot but I never did all the extras so it would work in the game! I was like What the?! How did this happen! It had 55 jobs and people were going there, you just couldn't see it.

I don't know if you guys know yet but I got a new computer for christmas. It is supposed to be shipped from LA to here by the 28th. Well I checked the status today and guess what? It arrived in Romulus at about 8:30 last night, and that is like 15-20 minutes from my house. I was so upset to know that my computer was so close but so far. It isn't supposed to get to my house until the 28th! I am gonna have to call FedEx tomorrow and see if I can go pick it up (hopefully they will be open, most likely not though).

Haha that was great. The funny thing is I do that when I make fun of stuff, seeing as I am an overly-sarcastic person. Anyway have fun at the Lions Game, I wish I could afford to go to a single game.

Tonight and tomorrow I have the grueling process of finishing my plugins folder clean up. I started a long time ago but never finished, and wow it is a mess! Then I have to transfer everything to multiple CD's and then install those to my new computer (which I hope I will get lucky and be able to pick up tomorrow...)

Merry Christmas everyone, even if it is a little late. The holidays are just nuts for me. That combined with all this foul weather has kept me very very busy. I need a vacation and that's exactly what I'm about to get. For the last week or so my girlfriend and I have been discussing plans to go to Vegas the first weekend in February and we will make them concrete first thing Monday morning. Had a nice windfall of earnings the last month or so, hence me not being here much.

Anyways, just thought I'd pop in to say hello. Hope everyone haves a safe and fun holiday. I'm off to shop with the crazy people at 7:00 am. Argh, my girlfriend loves after Christmas sales....
