That's great news dirk, thanks for replying. I guess I'm just getting a little impatient because I am sooo stoked for it! I can't thank you more for doing this!

Sorry Jessyka, I don't mean to be rude, but I got my cd today. Yay. The interface looks pretty cool, my laptop is old and works slow, can't wait to get it home on the real puter. Looks cool so far, too bad the dependecies couldn't be included on the CD.

Thanks Dirk and the contributors. I will continue to donate to show my thanks.29.gif

Canada - The Netherlands in six days! That's a pretty good time! 1.gif

Dirk, and everyone else who helped create this CD and all the BAT, Lot and Map makers who contributed to it: THANK YOU!

As someone mentioned before, the quality of the 'STEXplorer' is very very good! The interface is very clear and user-friendly. I haven't checked everything yet, but the (huge) collection that made it on the CD seems to be best of the best indeed! 29.gif

Not to sound impatient - 2.gif -, but when's volume II coming? If you do create it, could you perhaps consider putting the dependency files for both I and II on it? I have all dependencies for now, but if I ever lose them I'd love to have a backup on a beautifull SimTropolis collector's edition CD!

Ooh, and one special thank you to the BSC for the fine bonus material!! 4.gif

Regards,

I just got my STEX CD but am having a bit of trouble with it. The file browser opens fine, but once I start browsing content, it will load a couple of images and then lock up. The CD drive keeps spinning and accessing, but nothing more happens even after waiting 10 minutes. I have to force a close in Windows to get out of it.

I've tried using the supplied browser, IE, and Firefox, and the results are the same. I seem to be able to manually browse the content through Explorer, but I just tried to search for jpg images on the CD and even Explorer locked up. Sounds like I may have a corrupt disk.

Please help!

I have the same problem. I ran a test on it through nero & I got the following results.

14.38% Good
59.04% Damaged
26.58% Unreadable

But the interface looked great44.gif while it ran.

I have a pretty fast machine and it takes about 20 seconds to load 'All Files 1' completely. Maybe a few seconds less but on a slower machine it could take a while. If you were to browse a data CD full of digital pictures it would take a long time for those to load thumbnails too. It could take a loooooong time to load on anything less than 512rAm. But what do I know. My suggestion would be to relax for a while. Hopefully there aren't bad CD's out there.

Now to my other thoughts on the CD.

1. Dependencies not on CD. Ugh.47.gif And to make the CD easy to use you should just install all the denpendencies so you don't have to go back and forth matching BATs/Lots with their depens. This only makes it more frustrating that the depens. aren't on the CD.

2. Some files are loose and ready for the Plugins and others are in folders. Some are install type files. This means I end up doing as much clicking and saving as I did directly from the STEX. I imagine the files were packaged as they were uploaded on the STEx, so this doesn't seem to have an easy solution.

3. The browser is great.44.gif It works great, and it looks great. But it doesn't seem to allow for quick and easy file transfers. A simple drag and drop type transfer would be fastest. Being able to select any number of folders and drag them into the Plugins folder would be even greater.

4. Without the dependencies on the CD I can't get anymore to give them as gifts8.gif, or share it with those with awful cleeeeeee-cleedonk-edonk dial-up connections.

All that said, thank you for a CD that will be veerry useful when my comp. goes on strike again. *crosses fingers, knocks on wood*

    Hey guys, appreciate the feedback!

Our intention was to include as much of the dependencies as possible -- but with the MASSIVE amounts of dependency packs out there, they would literally take up the entire cd themselves -- we miscalculated that part.  Instead, we provided exhaustive links directly to the dependency file in question.  I hope that's a suitable compromise, in exchange we have all that much more space to fill with the good stuff.

There ARE plans to release a DVD edition, IF there is enough interest in it, and we can certainly include much more files and all the dependencies.

As for those who are having problems accessing your CDs, it sounds like there may be some bad burns on those discs, I have sent you both a PM and Email with instructions on how to get a replacement.

    Cheers!

    I made this!bzt.gif

Dirk, you did a great job for a first time effort.  Subsequent editions will get better especially if you go to DVD's.  With the files and dependencies changing constantly your never going to please everybody.   I'm really pleased with my copy and am looking forward to adding future releases to this one.10.gif

    Dirk,

Thanks for the CD - arrived in NZ yesterday.  I managed to get a lot of the files I wanted, but a few persistantly locked up however I tried...........
I got variously; page not found, explorer non response & shut down and on the CD browser it kept telling me to switch..........and wouldn't budge.  I wouldn't worry as most of them are available on the STEX anyway...........but one was one of the bonus files.  darn!

Btw - is brilliant and even with the few files I can't get - well worth the money!44.gif13.gif

Brightstar: if you use Windows Explorer to explore the CD, you can access the individual folders without using the browser. That way you should... hopefully.... be able to access the files that you want. The files themselves are in AutoPlay\Docs\files and there are four subfolders in there: bonus; deps; lots and maps.

    Hope this helps.

    Barby,

Thanks for the suggestion - it was the one thing I hadn't tried.  I managed to get the bonus file I wanted.  Now the only files missing are a section of Simgoober's that winzip keeps telling me have a corrupt file.  Those I am locating on the STEX right now.

    Thanks again35.gif35.gif

Some are wanting to know what is on the CD, I can't and won't give a list but did get offered the three bonus rewards from Vlakhaas today. They are all big city rewards and well worth the donation on their own - apart from the fact that you are helping Simtropolis stay alive and well. They certainly won't appear on the STEX in the foreseeable future so if you want them you will have to donate. I don't have unlimited financial resources but find enough to support this site as well as contribute by making and uploading lots. If you want this site to continue to supply quality BATs and lots then you really ought to find 20$ to donate.

If you want these, DONATE NOW.

I am still waiting for someone to grow and show my bonus lots.  They will astound you.29.gif9.gif

Edit: no, I am not trying to be rude or mean. This would have been a very exclusive selling point.

Well, I saw it coming but didn't feel confident enough to speak up; way too many BATers' making all new dependencies. Those invited to the CD, should have been, regulated to use there imaginations, with a standard set, all-new, top secret depencies. Dirk would then be selling His big surprise in the 100's and it would have had room for everything, as well as the neccessary mystique, that sells a game, etc.
