The Best Towns/Cities In The USA

The "Worst Town In The USA"  thread focuses on the negatives of the country.  Now it's time to tell about all the great towns and cities in the US of A.  What's your favourite and why is that? 

My favourite would have to be Cambria, CA.  A beautiful small town between Los Angeles and San Fransisco.  Right on the ocean it's the perfect place to kick back and relax.

NYC hands down.

Unless we are not talking metropolis type cities when you say "towns"... in that case, I really love Cape May, NJ .. as its my perfect little getaway at the southern tip of Jersey for New Yorkers, with Atlantic City about 45 minutes away.

Hmm, probably:

Arlington, MA - Very urban and dense for a town. Major 8-lane highway basically terminates and turns into a 4-lane surface road just past the border on the way into Boston, though. Red Line ends at the border and could be expanded into the town (would be great, especially with the poor highway, but is not going to happen any time soon). Basically 10 minutes to downtown Boston. Has a nice bikepath through it known as the Minuteman Trail.

Marblehead, MA - Lovely rocky on-the-sea New England town. Right next to the city of Salem, MA.

Nantucket, MA - Nantucket, well, duh!

Rockport, MA - I love Rockport! Same as Marblehead except not really close to any city. It shares an island with the eastern half of Gloucester, MA. Gloucester is lovely, too, but I believe that's a city.

Wakefield, MA - I live close, so maybe I'm bias. Hehe. Nice downtown, however commuter rail line is pretty congested due to many single track lengths throught the lines entirety. Would be great if they'd follow through with plans to extend the Orange Line throught this town, but seems to be currently off the table.

I would have to say Kennebunk, Maine. It's a nice, peaceful town in southern Maine right along the ocean. It is where I have taken my vacation to every summer. At a close second I would have to say Cape Elizabeth, Maine. That is another really nice quiet place I like to visit in the fall. You can watch all the ships leaving Portland harbor, but you don't get the hustle of the city all around you.

I have to say I find York, ME to be a nice little place, too.

Would like to mention Salisbury, MA, Hampton, NH, and Rye, NH.

My Favorite is the beautiful yet effective Mineral Wells, Texas. It is one of those towns that are dotted all across Texas. It has a state park right outside of it and a goregous lake, so that makes things more pleasant. Home to 18,000 people.

Ah I was there last summer. Lovely little seafood shack in town. Had a huge helping of fried shrimp and a plate of fried dough the size of a small pizza. I put on some weight that day

Why not the second capital of the US, Denver, Colorado. Where Plains meet the Rockies a city of 2 million and growing, the largest airport in the world and beautiful mountain views year round.

I love the NJ towns, especially in Bergen & Essex counties. One great example is South Orange. it has a quaint little downtown of its own, with shops and irish pubs.A NJ transit stop runs right thru it, giving it quick access to Newark and NYC.

Some other examples: Bloomfield, Ridgewood, Montclair, Demarest, Closter, and up to Nyack, NY.

mmmmmmm, there are so many cities/towns in the US that I love...besides agreeing with some of the others over NYC....... I'd have to go with Baltimore MD, Washington DC, Annapolis MD, Greenville SC, Charleston SC, Chevy Chase MD, Charlotte NC, Richmond VA, Staunton VA, San Diego CA, and last but not least Williamsburg VA

My absolute favorite two towns are Monterey and Carmel-By-The-Sea, California. Anyone who has been there would know why I choose these two places; they are just so relaxed and quiet - a nice change from the intense Bay Area a couple hours north.

Can we go with towns based on historical periods? If so, Lewiston, Maine around 1969-70 is both urban and rural, and rather quaint as all places in Maine are. 3 bridges to Auburn, functioning rail systems, though passenger service was a bit limited, and a string of large mills and factories near railyards, along with the rather active downtown area at Lewiston's highest ever population of around 41,700 in 1970. Bath's tram lines are rather interesting as well.

Best mass transit in the United states (Mits Bus)

Tons of Parks (New Urban park going in Downtown)

Great Schools

Ball State university

It has the Minnetrista Center

Bend, Oregon.

It's what I would call "the biggest small town" around, it's a really nice spot for a summer vacation, you can go hiking in a lot of nearby volcanoes (extinct ones ) and in the winter, Mt. Bachelor is a SWEET ski resort. 

Also... Wailea, Maui, Hawaii is probably my favorite vacation of all time  I have to give them some credit
