Slow down slick! Sorry I didn't really get to appear and say something sooner. These look promising but I think they could use a little more work, wouldn't you agree?

The images are really fuzzy too..hard for me to tell how some details and what not look.

I ve been absent for a while because of different things to do on left. I m back with what will be for sure my first upload for 2012 on the STEX. Having this building in the game was my dream, I decided to do it few weeks ago. I m trying different render and soon ingame pics of it to adjust the size with the game buildings.

The Crown Building, a fifth avenue pearl on the 57th street. Hope to finish everything very soon. But still having trouble to make correct nightlight.

I wait for your comments members and users.

Texture wise, it's going to need a lot of work my friend but it looks like you've modeled the crown exceptionally well.

Texturing is hard work, but one of the most crucial things. Try comparing textures with Maxis Buildings. Get GIMP or some sort of photo editing program to modify some textures to better fit the building(where it blends in almost seemlessly appearance wise). You should never take a texture from like a real life photo to solely use it to texture everything.

Hope this helps a bit. Glad to see you're still around. You have no doubt worked very hard on this. :thumb:

You see how the colors stand out compared to the surrounding buildings that it is wall-to-wall or connected to? Those Bats are prime and great examples to follow. Both modeling wise and texture wise.

I must ask, is the windows and building facade modeled out?

Do u think I should turn down the brightness? Or simply change the stone white facade into a grey one? I mean I used the texture the closest I found to "paint" the building walls. In fact it is a Wall2wall building, and it's kind of hard to find out pictures of the back. On the left in fact u find a building which is completely wall to wall with it til the 12th floor. I don't know in fact if I detail this part or not. I chose not, but I don't really know. for the facade windows, for real they are all blacks without specific details. But that's a shame and maybe because of Gmax renderers, most details I put on it are mitigated in the final.

Wonderful work so far and a nice surprise of an overlooked Fifth Avenue gem.

I think the stone texture should just darkened by a shade or two. It's a tad bit bright compared to the real thing.

Nightlighting the upper portion of the building is going to require a balance of spotlights on the copper crown and the some on the upper floors. Hopefully they won't be too bright as to wash out all the great details you've replicated.

Looking pretty good so far. What stands out to me is you need to replace those roof materials with 1:1 maps, and all of your windows look 2D right now. Also, the copper material on the roof look too bright. Those three things should be easy fixes.

P.S. actually, most of it looks too bright and the facade looks mostly 2D. Still, that can be fixed with bump maps and bit map tweaking.

Thank you for your comments. But i m like a potatoe to specific options or specific terms in Gmax (program I m using for models). Where can I find the general bright to turn it down? And what do u mean by "1:1 maps".

Hello Everybody. I m still working on the Crown Building but I absolutely don't know who to turn down the brightness... Anyway it will be released soon but I got 2 problems :

    - Brightness

    - Nightlighting

I just made this last days : I don't know the name of that building (if someone know...). It's located between 2nd and 3rd Avenues, and between 38th and 39th st (near UN Headquarters). I would like to put a nightlighting but still don't know how to do, and don't understand very well the tutorial specific to that...

I m having a problem. Why Should I upload only 500k of pictures? I wanted to upload new pîcs of the condo, and the site says : "your file is too big, Used 462,71K of your 500K global upload quota"... WHY CAN'T I UPLOAD NEW PICS? ARE WE LIMITED? I don't think so when I see some other topics where we find thousands of huge pics. I really don't understand how that website works sometimes... :(

Anyway, I ve deleted some pics of the Crown to show u (as Aaron asked for) the ingame pics of the full condo. But that's boring to be obliged to delete all the time old pics especially when u look at old message, u don't see any of these pictures commented anymore...

You need to upload your image to a image hosting site like imageshack.us, tinypic.com, ect...

    I use http://imageshack.us/

All you have to do is create an account and then upload your image, once you have done that you will see a bunch of links just use the direct link, copy it and then you put your image on ST forums, How to do that just click on insert image you should see it in the area where you make smiley face and then paste the link Image URL box, once finished click insert image. I hope that helps. :)

It's looking good, but it does need some more work. There's clearly an issue with the very top of the building where its missing shadows at the top. You'll have to change your lighting rig in gmax.

Other than that it looks good so far. Now you'll have to select some windows and enable them for night lighting(on the BAT Tab where you export, check out the area with parameters which should have a check box to enable night lighting on a single selected surface(where at night it becomes iluminated with a night map.

Try it and we'll see what else we can do to help.

Thanks SGT. Some other people pointed out the RIG issue already few months ago. But "RIG" etc etc are like chinese for me. As English is not my maternal language, and I don't completely manipulate GMAx, I don't know where to correct that issue which is a problem as u noticed. and for the nightlighting for now, I don't see any possibilities except asking help to someone just to illuminate my models because I have serious problem to understand how nightlight works, and to be honnest I ve follow many tutorials but that's hard really... Maybe I will be able to do it soon and say "well, in fact it's very easy to realize" but for now I don't think so... :(

Rig is actually technical term, term used in a tool you use for quite a long while already. So, it's actually irrelevant what is your maternal language. I bet if you set to the street of NYC and ask first person what is a RIG in GMAX you wouldn't get much of an answer...

It all question of attention and perseverance. You don't understand what RIG is - you open one of the Rig files and learn... It's that simple. If on the other hand you'd just expect to press a button and things would tern out great, well you'll be waiting for a long time. The longer the more people with such attitude and excuses will be around. Cause no problem will ever be solved with such approach... No matter how small or trivial. Reliance on such is the reason why after soooo many years this problem keeps coming up again and again and again...

So, open one (any really) of CameraLightRig*.gmax files and see what they contain and try to think how it all works.

Well, my Queens power plant is still on hold because of my lack of power... I m still looking for someone who could render it with a powerfull machine...

    Anyway,

this my both last projects which I have almost finished (some details need more work)

Ingame pics of the ConEd Steam power Plant :

    <img src="http://img840.imageshack.us/img840/9627/newyork29sept6331288271.png" alt="" /><img src="http://img708.imageshack.us/img708/9627/newyork29sept6331288271.png" alt="" />

I need to do the 2nd part of the building. And the nightlight problem is still here, now my Gmax doesn't want to render the building at night... <img src="https://community.simtropolis.com/assets/emoticons/15.gif" border="0">  Does anyone feel ok to create the nightlight?

Just to say that it often happens to me to think about this project. Almost every time i see some lower east side image...

I hope you're still working on this awesome and very useful lot.

However, thank you for all your previous releases.

    Don't bother, I'll manage alone...

Don't take our words the wrong way, especially SimFox. He's trying to help. Me and him can tell you a bit about accidentally taking things harshly. :P

And I'm not too specific about the term lighting rig either, since I haven't had a problem before with one being too small(well maybe twice but the project never gotten far enough).

If you need help with anything specific let me know, or post a picture on where you're at and we'll see where we can guide you.

Or, you can be like me and use trial and error to figure things out on your own. You'd be surprised on how much I've learned on my own. :) (not saying you have too though ;))

Maybe it would help if you told us which tutorial you try to follow, which steps you take, and where you click. It's impossible to help someone if all he says is "I don't understand all that". This applies to your problem with the lighting rig, to your problem with night ligths, and to your doubts when it comes to making a building growable. If you managed to turn it into a landmark, then you have, in fact, taken all the steps you need to take. You only need to drag the model to a different category in the Plugin Manager, that's it. So please try to be specific about where you run into a problem, and we should be able to help you.

I ve re-modeled a little bit The Crown. I ve deleted the one on the Stex to make it way better than I did. I changed some stuffs on the roof top to enlarge it like the real one on the 4 inclined sides. I changed the roof texture too in order to make it green without that darker lines at the top. I replaced some gold stuffs too. I let you watch that on the pic below.

You're getting better modeling wise but those textures... thats a part this needs work on. The textures over all are plainly bright and white, and the flat roof textures appear like you found a brick texture and shrank it. The crown's texture is more like a neon green than some green tiling or copper... I know I've mentioned that the textures need work before. Right now, I think some of the textures give this building a "flat" appearance on its facade.

You should try comparing this to buildings in game to try and match and edit your textures accordingly. Color scheme wise, I think this building would match Lind Entertainment as a role model for trying to imitate textures. Its a Maxis Stage 8 NY styled skyscraper.

I wish you some more good luck!

I change the white columns for a beige stone texture. But in my opinion, this look that the building is in a pollution smog since 30 years and turned into a grey dirty wall... What do u think? for the roof, I have lot of difficulties to match a green color. Do u know a website (another than CG texture) to find something correct.
