Do you change your Mayor music station?

I have become tired of the game-supplied music, so I switched it.  It is easy to do, you go into the music panel and uncheck the boxes that are for the mayor music, then move your own MP3 (or an MPU) files into the proper catalog.

The Path is Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4\Radio\Stations\Mayor\Music

Quite a mouth full, and you have to have administrator permissions to do this.

I changed mine first to an album that was mostly vocals.  I found that too distracting, and changed it to Olympic Themes 1984-2002 ripped from a CD.  But I left out both of the Andrea Bocelli renditons because he gets boring after a while.  There are one or two vocals, but they only show up once in a while.  Most of this music is by John Williams, and has lots of brass, drums, and is quite good for building cities to.

I plan on maybe doing it later on. Once I can get some music off of the internet.

Where do you find your music?

Oh and instead of unchecking mayor music just delete it (that is if you really hate it)

I want some custom tunes in my game. The stuff provided is so annoying so I just turn it off.

Maybe I will steal some of the sample music from my brother's guest account and use it.

I haven't listened to an MP3 in so long. Does the game support AAC? I normally just have Itunes up in the background...my favorite so far is playing one of the radio stations they have called "Birdsong" radio, it's pretty relaxing!

Sorry, MP3 or MPU playlists only.  Old game, you know.

I have a utility that converts music from pretty much any format to any other.  I don't know if it is available on other O/Ss.  It is called Gnome Sound Converter 1.4.4.  I suspect it is only available for Linux (maybe UNIX) installations.

Read the previous post, Josh.  On Windows, I think the regular music player can do it.

Rhapsody is able to convert formats. I do it for movies all the time, however I would not know how for music.

That's why I turn the music off.  Never did like the cheap music that permeates the games I've played over the years.  It's enough to make your ears bleed.18.gif

I personally like a lot of game music. it does vary. I'm thinking of playing the god mode music in mayor mode instead. because I liked it chilled outness.

I can't get .wav files to work. Do you have to name it a certain way or something?

Stars of the Lid, Eluvium and Brian Eno make excellent music that is very suitable for city-building.

Look them up on youtube and you'll see what I mean!

Somewhere in the manual there is a discussion that clearly says that only MP3 files and MPU play lists will work.  I think if you ask it politely, windows media player will convert your .wav files to .MP3.  If not, you can probably find a free editor out there that will.

OK. Also my mom has some MP3s in her Sample Music folder that she could send to me in an email. WinMedia Player won't convert them. I did ask politely!!!27.gif

I found a bunch of converters but you had to pay for them. I may go ahead and get one of them I saw for a free trial. You could get it for free actually.. if you gave them some of your personal information!!!

More and more, Josh, it is becoming clear that you need to download and install a copy of UBUNTU or some similar Linux system, putting it up as a dual boot.  The music converter you need is free on UBUNTU, and you could then write the files back into your windows file space by just mounting the partition for read/write.  UBUNTU can handle that file system.

I don't really wanna get Ubuntu just yet. The stuff that I have on Windows works fine. And I guess I can wait. Besides. Some of the ingame music isn't too bad. Only the region stuff is.

Download Audacity. Completely free, and you can do some basic sound editing as well as just converting to different formats. You need a plugin though to be able to save mp3 files, you can find it pretty easily on the Audacity site.

I absolutely love the SC4 music, but I often play with a VLC playlist just running in the background, turning the game music volume down to zero.
