    How can I achieve that ripple effect in the glass that iv seen in some Gmax BAT's, Is it a texture or a tool in Gmax? As my prime example if you guys don't know what I'm talking about is this, a BAT that Sgt Pepper did outside his usual NYBT.

    You want to ask Cockatoo since he made the texture when he was explaining glass textures for gmax to me. 3.gif I still got alot to learn when it comes to any photoshop like thing... But have you tried adding noise to any texture you use as glass? Noise can give a "rippled effect" but it may take some trial and error to get it to look right. Then again...someone else probably can explain this better than me...31.gif

    Okay, so I've been working on the roof extensively and it's coming out so far so good, I might have gotten some mistakes because there aren't clear visuals of the roof and there is A LOT of hidden stuff there behind the vents and what not.

    I would say don't torture yourself, don't try to get every detail form those blurred photos. Just get it look right, meaning looking logical and, quite important I believe, not over crowded. And that's would be fine! Better spend you time if you have extra on making fitting textures. For instance make sure all the seams (between facade blocks) are ther where they should be (again logically)

    Well you seem to be on the right track with what you have left and I'm glad to see this one back! 4.gif

    I think the facade actually needs some more work, as well as it's texture currently-

    2mc7qra.jpg

    30cn590.jpg

    Modeling wise, I'm concerned that your model doesn't have the white looking window frames around each window. You need to add these. The facade and windows will look a lot nicer. 2.gif

    Also, the texture: It shouldn't be that color and I think you need to change it. I can't really see the textures detail(like tiles) so all you might have to do is change it's color. The facade is actually dark brown granite(which is why the facade is reflective in some pics). So you should definately change the blackness to more of a brown and with a hint of blue. Or, maybe just add more blue to the color of your current texture.

    BTW, can I see the actual texture your using(the image)? Maybe there's some otherthings seeing it up close that I could suggest or help with.

    This is the texture I use, I'm well aware it's not very good, I don't know what else to use though to fit. If anyone can help me out with a new texture, I'll gladly credit you.

    ^Doh D'ooh-...oh...well...oh my.14.gif3.gif

    I devised this from a texture I found before, just edited the colors, saturation, and contrast a bit-

    2myn8nc.jpg

    I think with a little editing of your own and some good UVW Mapping positioning, it should do. 2.gif

    Out of curiosity, do you have self-ilumination turned on for your glass texture?

    Don't forget those window frames too now.5.gif

    @Sgt Pepper, 6.gif It's blue lol 3.gif I don't know how to do any texture editing, can you tell me how i can turn your blue mesh of textures in an extremely dark brown color.

    On a side not, i started working on a LOOONG lost building, it was actually the first building i have every attempted and failed miserably 3.gif Half a year later I'm going to attempt it again.

    The Olympic Tower Condominium. 4.gif

    olympictowernewyorkcity.jpg

    The building is 620 ft ( 189 m ) and has 51 floors.

    Figured I'd comment...

    Great work so far, first off! Textures are a pain for sure, but keep at it....once you are good at making textures, BATs are a breeze!

    Brandon has the right Idea, your wall material should be nowhere near that dark. That is half your problem. You will not find a building that black in the game because 1) it looks horrible, and 2) it is very difficult to make something in full sunlight (like building cladding) look black in real life (even impossible I'd dare say).

    Try using GIMP to play around with bitmaps. Have fun with it, try out the different tools, learn what things do and where they are so when you try to actually make something, you will know what to do.

    I just got my new computer, a DELL, don't know much about computer tech so i have no clue what kind of computer i have other then it being a laptop 3.gif BUT it's new 4.gif so Lol.

    I know I'm not good at textures and all lol, so I am gonna download GIMP to adjust some textures to make it fit.

    I know I tend to change topic from one BAT to another 3.gif Sorry, but here some renders of my Long Island City Brownstones.

    They're a bit too light, I'll tone that down and as far as trying to make it allign with Marcszar's Brownstones and such, I can't be done, even if wanted it too 43.gif The stairs on the real buildings are awfully elongated. So if you plan on making a realistic urban city, these will have a neighborehood of their own 3.gif

    Looks really good, just need to work on the bricks/ wall textures. I personally think the side of the wall nee to be a different texture because it's a wall to wall building.

    To know about your computer, you just go control panel, system security, then system, and there you will see how much RAM you have, your Processor type and speed, your system type, and at the very top you see window edition, you should see windows 7 Home Premium.

    I hope that helps.

    Well, SimFox let me re word that, what about just making the bricks lets saturated, because in RL these buildings will be sitting side by side to the next building, I hope you know what I mean, the bricks on the side can't be to clean to pretty even if it's and R$$, and R$$$ residential building. I hope I'm help out, I don't want to look stupid, I'm just  trying to help out.4.gif

    If anyone knows what I'm talking about please, please explain it a little better that I did, but I hope you knoe what I mean.2.gif

    Here is some of Don Miguel building that you can learn from.

    Very nice work 4.gif But maybe you can lower the saturation a bit?

    You really aren't too far off as far as textures go. It is just a matter of tuning and finishing what you have.

    Mostly you just need to darken things and add a little wear and weathering. The one that really bothers me is the windows/ shades. They are all very uniform and flat, which makes it all seem very fake and plastic. The rears isn't too bad in this regard, but the front is much to uniform.

    In this image, I have added a little wear and darkened things (in obvious places), I shifted the hue of the bricks a little more to a brown/orange color, which is more in line with the game's "red brick" color. I only desaturated it slightly, the problem was more with the hue and value I think. Avoid areas of pure white or black (ffffff and 000000 hexadecimal respectively). Click for full size.

    New001254857389-1.jpg?t=1296075969

    This should give you a good idea of where you should be aiming.

    As you may well notice in that picture, the scale of your buildings is rather goofy.Your floor height appears to be much to tall, something like 5m+. I would try to compare your rowhoses with the others of this type, like Don miguel's or marcszar's wonderful creations. Other than that, just keep working on the details and your model should be fine.

    @SimHoTToDDy - Ugh -.- my scale is so off, i feel embarrased. I like you rendition of the brick weathering and aging, but for the roof i think it's darker then what's shown in pictures on Bing and google, it could be the sun but i do agree, i should make a darker then what it is now.

    One should almost never take the bright roof color from bing/google for granted. You are right that the sun makes a big difference, but more importantly a bright white roof looks awful in the game. Even if the roof was relatively light in reality, I would still suggest that you tone it down so that it would look appropriate in game. How it looks in game is what is important, so that should be your priority when it comes to making texturing decisions.

    This is a pain in the ass to get right. It took me forever to figure out what the balance should be, but the more you look at your work compared to the game the more you start to realize what fits and what does not. You will learn in time. If Jason (and others) was able to teach me how, then you can do it too 3.gif

    I wrote the above before your last post and ST's brief outage

    ~~~
    The tower isn't bad, although I'm not sure what is going on with the glass 3.gif
    Just make sure all of your proportions are correct (as simfox pointed out some time ago) and you should be fine.
    Looking forward to what you change the topic to next!
    You use GIMP right, you might can use that to make your glass a little better, I use Photoshop so I can't help you to much, I'm going to download it can see what things can fix up the glass a little better. Maybe if you post your glass texture up here maybe someone can fix it for you, I hope Cockatoo-210893 is looking at this thread maybe cockatoo can help you.
    @ Aaron Graham - The problem is, I took my texture, and made it into 12 strips, copied and pasted each strip into a new MS Paint tab, and saved all 12 strips as a different texture because the windows on the Interchem were extruding outside of the buildings instead of inwards. As seen below.
    39732123568631096817935.jpg
    Soooo uhh, I didn't think I would need the main texture anymore... so i deleted it 15.gif sorry.
    @Aaron Graham - I will try it out, and it looks great ! thank you, But my only problem with it is, the area around Interchem is a congested area with a lot of buildings around it, i wanna reflect those buildings onto my building to make it more realistic, but again for none NYC use, this would be more better.
    Also i have a lil update on Olympic Tower
