Sgt Pepper: No, actually if you saw at least one of the 1's, this is quite a good sign. On my monitor at work, neither of them is visible. And the second picture is supposed to show only neutral grey. Some people see coloured areas or stripes there because their monitor's colour settings are so off! So, all inall your monitor appears to be quite ok.

Nonetheless, trying that calibration tool cannot really hurt. It will create a monitor profile that you can load if you want. If you don't want to use it any longer, you can simply discard it, and your monitor will go back to where it was.

Well, if first picture is a proper test, the second is really, really nothing of the sort. I mean it really require person to be very sensitive and aware of the matter. Most people looking at very color biased images don't really see this bias - hence all those odd and incompatible colors in BATs.

Calibration is a good start. But what really should come first is color awareness and, at least, some basic knowledge of color theory. Second, ability to notice those issues all around in real world - that is very much trainable skill once first is done. And then - color calibrated monitor, as a tool...

And here is one sort of plea... It may be a bit wrong place, but on on the hand it may be a right one. TWrecks, you do regularly visit Bixel's thread, and you're a member of HKABT, you're very much aware of color. Why are you then silent about the lighting He uses? or do you feel it is totally game compatible

The truth is I've been popping into his thread now and then, but I have 'lost contact' with his BATs for quite a while because in my current region I'm focusing on rural American up to Art-Deco, so the modern stuff has been set aside to be covered later, when my region has developed far enough. I haven't downloaded any of his stuff in a while, let alone used it.

I'll have to download some recent BATs and check them out. You know, normally when I download something, the first thing I do is plop it into a test city, plop some Maxis stuff around, "guesstimate" a suitable occupant number, and re-mod and re-lot everything. 3.gif During the test, I'd notice issues - at least those that are obvious to me. I hope I'll have some time during the weekend.

I guess a V2 of Wall Street Plaza wasn't enough....it was rated 3.97.... well I guess that means I have to work harder... :/

Well I'm wondering if I should continue for now with 250 Broadway or put it on hold again to do something else...I think I'd rather do something esle...I don't know what though.

I'm thinking either the HSBC Bank Building in the Financial District, or...I don't know really. 3.gif I'll figure it out, either Something from TriBeCa or the Financial District, or possibly the area near where One Brooklyn Bridge Plaza is.

It means you shouldn't pay attention to those "stars". You should always ask your self a question "Who are those giving them, what is they qualifications and real motives?" That system shouldn't be either anonymous, not just "click and go". If one wants to leave the mark/rating it should be only shown next to ones comment. If you have nothing to say - move along. And if one have - then the quality of the comment would really give or subtract the weight of that rating. Also sometimes mistakes happen, I know I made few, you accidentally click the wrong star and there is nothing you can do about it. And the system when "authors" can remove comments they don't like... It's a sham... So pay no attention to it. Important thing is that you make an effort and with each new project you actually learn and get better. It is very admirable thing.

250 Broadway... You know my question "why do you do it" wasn't just any stray one... I to be honest don't see anything in that building worth the materials it is made of. It is desperate and very unsuccessful attempt to marry two era, two styles. But that is just my opinion. May be I fail to see something it. Still you said you liked it. So did you, or you just though - there is an easy one. Problem with such an approach is that if you don't really like it you wouldn't have motivation enough to get through the whole process. So it is up to you what to do with it. If you really don't like it just drop it. It you don't like it but want to exercise your will go on with it. any option is good enough.

Thanks for those words SimFox. 4.gif

I do like the building SimFox, it's just I'm one of those people who can't stay focused on anything...it's actually rare for me to be focused...or pay attention(a problem I have with school 3.gif) So it's not like I get bored with anything, since I eventually get to it or finish it(or just start over from scratch)...but if you think I should drop it now, I could. I'll admit, it may not be one of the most interesting buildings in New York. And there's plenty of more interesting structures.

Geometry- Well that's completely irrelavent to post that here....and I'd like to know why your posting it...?

Paul- You can call me Brandon(I thought you knew that?) too ya know, or keep calling me Sgt. since it makes me feel incharge. 3.gif Of course, I'm going to continue with it, but probably very slowly. As of this post, I'm trying to scale it down since I had it last at the overscale similar to Wall Street PlazaV1. Expect a pic soon(I might just edit this one).

    EDIT:

    2jamb7q.jpg

Reworked the scale. That's the only thing different here. It's a draft render so don't expect anything fancy.

Looks good to me. I like the floating mullions, they add that extra something. xD By the way, I've picked my next BAT and SimFox might hate me for it. hahaha Here's the hint: black, navy blue, and aluminum. Oh, and it's had its name changed at least once. I think that should be enough to figure it out or at least give it a guess.

Billy Shears is back to update his NYBT Thread. 16.gif

I didn't do much to 250 Broadway, I scaled it down some and tried fixing the top part to line up. I decided to render it in Low Quality to test how it was looking so far better instead of photo shopping. 3.gif So excuse the unfinished appearance and obvious LOD issue-

    2ufzlus.jpg

I'm thinking i need to scale it up a tad...

BTW Since school is back in session I probably won't be as active as I used to. So...be warned and miss me when I'm not here! 31.gif As in...miss me when I'm at school until I find time to get on by either skipping homework or finally finishing homework. 3.gif

I think it looks about right. Just by looking a the RL Transportation Building make me want to texture the building a lot better.

Due to an unfortunenate NAM conflict, some things got unwantingly uninstalled from my desktop and there was nothing I could have done to stop it for some reason. I didn't lose much, I guess, but I lost my big folder of Textures I had so now all my current models are solid colors now without textures...I have no more textures on my computer.

So I don't know when I'll fix this or...I don't know I'm a little annoyed at the momment. What happens next depends on my mood. But I'm sure eventually I'll get some replacement textures then remake the other ones I had from other textures I found...possibly.

Until then, my thread won't have much activeness unfortunately...but at least I'll be around to give advice to my fellow teammates on BATing. And At least my plugins or SC4 didn't get accidentally uninstalled. 3.gif

Any chance that the textures are in the recycle bin??? Just wishful thinking. 41.gif

Well I hope you don't give up on BATing because of this incident...things usually improve when they are done again from scratch and maybe this is the case here. Well whatever happens, I wish you the best of luck!

    Brandon never gives up. 2.gif

If you lost the folder, just make a new one with the same name and in the same location and put your nes textures in there. Make sure the new textures have the same names as the old ones. If you do that gmax shoild use the new textures with you having to re-assign them to objects. Also, this is a very easy way to swap out textures.

This is a good excuse to improve your bitmaps! Everything comes out better the second time around 2.gif

this is also where you earn good naming convention and layers (plus use of object color), so objects with like layer/color/name/material can be changed out very quickly. You may also go into the material itself and change the bitmap to a temporary/new one as PBGV mentioned.

To be honest, I would be dead in the water for a while too (I have a small collection of ~1000 bitmaps just for textures, and I'm being serious, that is not a whole lot). This stinks, but I wish you the best of luck!

Why can't you get an external HD? If it's too pricey for you at the moment, you could burn some DVDs or use a USB stick to back up the most important stuff. I'm not sure how the NAM could be responsible for losing your textures folder, but a harddisk can break down at any time, so having a backup is crucial, esp. if you're not familiar with data recovery programs (i. e. "Recuva" or "PC Inspector File Recovery"). Ideally, you should use those immediately after the deletion, since any write access to the HD will damage the deleted files (deleting files actually means the disk space is marked as "free" again, so the data gets overwritten when the system needs to write new files). Now it might be too late already to use those programs, but you can still try and see if you can recover at least something.
