I'm proud to show you my work about Baton Rouge, LA. (sorry if I do some mistakes in english, I usually speak french)
For the moment, I build the western shore of the Mississippi; Port Allen, Beaulieu...
Caution: It's not a real replica of the city and the metro area. I'm just using main highways and freeways as a frame. Streets, houses, buildings, zones and other are fictional.
But I do all possible to make a realistic city, as you can see from a plane...

This the sattelite view of the area: 7x6 large maps = 28km by 24km.

batonrougela11229156183va.jpg

The transportation map. I'm not using the highways from the game, they looks unrealistic, unmodulable, and so.
The advantage: you can make large interchanges, full, 3/4, 1/2 cloverleafs for avenues/freeways or freeways to freeways.
Large and wide median and curves. And! you add to the game a 4th type of road: divided highway, ideal for strip malls, etc...
Disandvantages: no stack! but so...
You can see the I-10 bridge, the interchange with the LA-1 and far north, a part of the Airline Highway.

Some details will come soon! I think the images are little bit little...

Yeah, in my reconstruction of Baton Rouge, city or neighbor name will probably change, for a more french spirit

Very nice.  I'm half cajun so I was naturally drawn to your cj.  Momma, gone now for near 30 years, was a french speaking cajun, but I was raise up redneck in NC and now live in TN.  But me. my sister and my daughter all got momma's looks.  I'll be keeping up.  One thing (I'm new here) what is this about not using the roads that come with the game?  First I heard.  Please enlighten.

Your refineries are something to be seen. I especially like the use of thew dirt paths/roads in between, very nice and realistic touch. And Beaulieu ( in the region view ) is remarkable, the way you got your farms and fields shapped like that is very interesting.

A model for my city 9.gif9.gif

This is really absolutely wonderful! The transportation map looks amazing, your use of avenues and one-ways is really very adept, and the industrial areas look so real!

Thanks, everyone! You're probably waiting for downtown pictures, that will come a little bit later. I planed to build one or two cities around and than to attack the center.

to Murakumon: Thanks, but at the moment, Beaulieu is my worst city: unenployment problems and farms wont develop.
    I must to work on.

to petercintn: Ho! I'm very pleased to speak to an half-cajun! before to start my region, I searched some informations about cajuns and Louisiana. That make me envious to visit this land.
I just don't use the highways, they're not, in my opinion, terrible. One way roads gives more realism and it's more funny when you have to plan interchanges and to build'em. I hope I answered correctely.

    I found a french-english dictionary yesterday.35.gif

Yep! here is an little update: I tried to make the I-110/US-190 interchange (it's in reality a stack). I wouldn't make something like a cloverleaf, and I did this one:

    scotlandvillela6avr00112324630.jpg

It takes a lot of space, but I don't care... big is beautiful, no? (it works)

After 1,5 hours playing: not finished yet, probably tomorrow.

I like the industrial area. It's impressive. Btw, strange idea using roads instead of highways, but I kinda like it.

To simcitic: I'm planning to build a medium sized metropolis (~800.000 - 1.000.000). We will see.

Now a little update (after a weeked full of beer9.gif):

The a part of the northern suburbs:

    NORTH BATON ROUGE

    northbatonrougela24sept1911232.jpg

It's not just an isolated plantation...

    northbatonrougela15sept1911232.jpg

Along the LA-1, North Port Allen, a bedroom community, with nothing to do...

    northbatonrougela3oct191123234.jpg

North of this community, a barge terminal along the Mississippi River (the area is called Sunrise-Poplar Grove Plantation).
I added a barge for the cars.

    northbatonrougela18oct19112323.jpg

On the opposite banks, the cereal terminal of North Baton Rouge. The tanker got some problems when it wants to leave the terminal. - Captain, somebody has stoled the whiskey' crate!
    - It's not me!
    - It's the duck...
    - 40.gif burps...

    northbatonrougela5nov191123234.jpg

The area is just an impressive suburbs between the Scenic Hwy and the I-110 freeway.
    The neighboroods of Cadieux.

    northbatonrougela13oct19112323.jpg

Here are located the two garbage incinerator (West Baton Rouge Parish Sanitary Dpt).

    northbatonrougela30oct19112323.jpg

Not so far, an industrial park.

    northbatonrougela28nov19112323.jpg

Strip mall: brand name retailers, fast food, etc. And the famous Capitol Hill Mall...

    northbatonrougela16jan20112323.jpg

A general view of this neighborood situated just a few hundred meters from the State capitol...

    northbatonrougela12nov19112323.jpg

The Jean Lafitte College... Students like this park, and the teens of the area too. (Well known for savage party on the soccer fields).

    northbatonrougela20nov19112323.jpg

The last, just for the eyes 35.gif.

More to come, stay tuned! (I take my job today, after a short week of holiday22.gif
