I used to play this game all the time. Building parks was amazing. I always played Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 and the expansion packs. I never got 3, because it looked to new.

I have always loved RCT2 even though I wasn't that good at it. Here are a few screens of a park I was currently working on but I have placed on hold.

RollerCoaster Tycoon 1 & 2 were the greatest theme park games ever! (SimCoaster takes a second)

I spent countless hours designing many many many theme parks. Now, they're all lost to my memory (unless I can find their remains somewhere on my old desktop computer, if they survived the mass HD sweeps I've done in the past). Only complaint were the height restrictions on some of the rollercoasters o.O and also that making elaborate building decorations using walls, roofs, floors, and windows in RCT2 was extremely and painfully time-consuming... I'd spend two whole days making a theme park from scratch, and then I would release it as a scenario and finally start building rides o.O

Blackpool Pleasure Beach and the Pepsi Max Big One sure left one hell of an impression on me... Along with Lightwater Valley and The Ultimate :)

Look up some Digital distribution sites and make sure they aren't scams. Google is your best friend

I played my summers out of Roller Coaster Tycoon 1&2. I Enjoyed 3 but it felt kinda buggy and hard to play with the new engine they put into it.

I recently got Roller Coaster Tycoon 1 and 2 which I haven't played in about 8 years. Even though this game is almost 13 years old it still looks good to me.
I thought I would get back into it by creating my own park to start with. I called it Pineview Lake Amusement Park.

Runaway Train is the second coaster built in the park and the first coaster to have a theme to it.
SCR5_zpserval1us.png

Heartline Twister (blue), Flying Blind (green and yellow), and Turning Tubs (pink and brown). Heartline Twister was the first coaster to be built in the park.
SCR4_zpsjxc3fibp.png

Patriarch (red) is the fifth coaster to be built in the park and is the first coaster to have a drop of more than 50 feet.
SCR3_zpshxvnsa0k.png

Power Trip (green and yellow), Log Roller (brown), and Afterburn (black and gold).
SCR2_zpsjrpbhox5.png

The Beast is the only wooden roller coaster in the park and was the seventh coaster to be. This is the only themed area of the park.
SCR6_zpsy6cf7mst.png

Tormentor (blue) and Retribution (yellow) are two of the six coaster built in the back of the park.
SCR1_zpsltbmmume.png

Prey Catcher was the first Roller Coaster in the park to have inversions (built in year 10).
SCR7_zpsxvp1mggo.png

Dragonshout (green), Barbarian (black), part of Prey Catcher (green and pink), and part of Doom Giver (blue).

An overview of the back of the park where most of the roller coasters are. Doom Giver is the closest one and is also the biggest.
SCR9_zpsrcxfsjzb.png

An overview of Pineview Lake Amusement Park. There is a total of 70 rides with 16 of them being roller coasters.

Man! I love Roller Coaster Tycoon! Don't play it anymore but for its time it was a gem and the graphics and options were pretty darn engaging and creative!

You know there is a new RollerCoaster Tycoon coming this year? It's called RollerCoaster Tycoon World.

From what I've seen the graphics are bad and it's still grid based. However I haven't seen anything else wrong with it so far. Though we haven't seen much at all to be honest...

Agree on that. I was in love with RCT3 (mainly because of all the custom content and because it looks better than 1 and 2), but I didn't like how the people look like in that game. I haven't seen very much of the new one, but I hope they make more realistic people (and better support pillars)

Some of the only PC games other than the SimCity series that I ever really loved were RCT 1 and 2. I still have both of them, however the first one no longer runs on my new laptop (compatibility problems). The second one works fine though. Over the years, one of my favorite things to do was to name the guests every name I could think of - people I knew in real life, friends, family, etc., celebrities, musicians, politicians, activists, and even video game/cartoon characters - and clicking the "i" button so that I could keep track of everything they did. And that's not the best part - I would give the Rides and Stalls all funny names, so that eventually I would get ticker messages that read "Michael Jackson is on drugs" or "Peter Griffin is in the crapper" (in place of 'Restroom 1').

I couldn't really get into RCT3 though. One thing I did like about it was riding your own rollercoasters, especially if they were fails and exploded/derailed.  :P

Well, the game's not looking terrible, It's unlikely to be any worse than SC2013. The developers are at least making single player a big focus, which is a step up.

I found this video about the new RCT:

The new RCT World looks very promising. I like the interconnected parks always wanted something like that.

I have spent a lot of time playing Roller Coaster Tycoon, my favourite one is definitiely the 3rd one, I like how they have added the water park stuff and have broken so much new ground with the addition of each expansion pack as well as the base game.  I love that you can ride your rides and all of the customisation option the game has added. One thing I did find awkward was the terrain editing tools, it was the fact that they added the SimCity4esce terraforming tools , but what made it so awkward was they kept the old RCT1 and 2 terraforming method, it was so weird.

I felt that RCT2 didn't really take the game much further from RCT1, not to say I didn't enjoy RCT2 but it seemed like pretty much the same game as the first one. The expansion packs for RCT2 showed extreme lazyness as they only added more rides and scenery most which were reskins of existing rides. felt so cheated. didn't even buy the second pack for RCT2, it's like they ran out of ideas or just didn't care.

So I have some pictures of one of my parks from RCT3

RCT  2 was such an awesome game, use to pick people up and put them on  paths to nowhere so they aimlessly try to find the exit and couldn't and then when they got tired dropped them in the lake and had them drown, good times.

Also  use to adjust the launcher so that the seats would go up super fast while having the base too short so it would  come down and blow up, hours  of entertainment.

I hope those features are included in the new one, ride safety is so overrated.

Ah yes, like you I've gotten hours worth of entertainment from being a sadistic park owner. Close the exit, put a huge price on making use of the bathroom, drop guests in the lake and make rides explode. Such fun times :P

Did that with the ones who puked on my paths. The others seemed to never learn the lesson...

I really liked RCT3 because of what you can make with it and it looks more realistic with its 3D view. I made various videos about it on YouTube:

I still have all 3 and reserve the right to load them up at any time.  I actually bought digital copies a year or so ago and have gotten them all to run well in Wine.  I have the most experience in 1, played a little of 2 and hardly any in 3.  I second the thoughts on 2 being a half-baked reskin of the original.  It did add a few really nice features, though.

I recently got Roller Coaster Tycoon 1 and 2 which I haven't played in about 8 years. Even though this game is almost 13 years old it still looks good to me.
I thought I would get back into it by creating my own park to start with. I called it Pineview Lake Amusement Park.

Perhaps what entertains me the most in your post is the sheer number of rides breaking down - but that's how it is!  I'm surprised you only captured one screenshot where the Ferris Wheel and/or Carousel were broken down.

That always seems to be a problem with big parks. I have one mechanic for every for rides and set the inspection time to every 10 minutes but rides still break down a lot.

Even after an inspection a ride would break down right away. I guess that inspections don't help a lot and some rides in the park are close to 20 years old.
