Yall know what stress I want to get rid of? THAT IDIOT ENVIROMENTAL ADVISOR! Water pollution just kinda goes out-of-whack a bit, and spreads out a little to the city's ONLY source of water, and she shuts it down. She says she has a so called "court order" TO SHUT THIS PUMP DOWN! IT IS BLOWING NOTHING BUT AIR!!!! And so I place another one somewhere else and she shuts it down too! Elseware, far away from the city as possible, shuts it down. And pollution there wasnt even that high, just in the yellow! And that means my best city ever, with 400000 residents is SHUT DOWN thanks to that jerk!<img alt="" src="https://community.simtropolis.com/assets/emoticons/26.gif" />

i made a mod that will shut her up for good see link https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/files/file/26662-shut-up-advisers/

It's taking a good ten minutes for my city to load now, got to much going on in it.

It is an exponential function depending on both number of objects in the city and the size of tables that have to be searched to link the models. How many plugins do you have? You might get an increase in speed if you increase your (virtual) memory. It is definitely noticeable when the city gets over 100,000 Sims and the necessary objects to support them. This is one instance where multi-processing could help.

You could also try DATpacking...

I don't think that impacts city load time, only game load time. The table size is probably not affected.

Wait is city load time based on how many plugins you have or how many plugins are in use in your city. So if you have a city with only maxis buildings but huge population will it load faster than a pure plugin city with a low population?

Great idea in theory, but I avoid it because it's an enormous hassle trying to track down a plugin conflict when everything is tossed together like a salad.

That's one of the 2 reasons why I don't DATpack things. The other is in case another "super" plugin pack comes out and I have to remove packs that this one replaces.

I don't think it matters much what is in the city once the plugin tables are in memory. What impacts the loading speed is the number of objects first, and then the number of links that have to be made, which is probably insignificant if they did it right. I don't think the programmers anticipated people with 2GB of plugins because it wasn't possible when the game was released.

On Datpacking, I wouldn't use it if I could. Too much trouble for maintenance if some new or updated pack comes out. I use files2dat by ilive to reduce the number of files in my plugins list.

My biggest Sim City 4 concerns right now:

1. Neighbour cities spam me every second minute because they want me to reevaluate deals where the price I pay or receive remains unchanged. What is that all about?

2. Police isn't necessary before crime becomes an actual problem in your cities.

3. Helicopter on Hospital roof only takes off for a flight when I load a city for the first time in a session. After that it's just stuck there.

4. Industry can develop / survive without commuters from the residental areas.

5. Zone development which changes the shape of the landscape and compensates elevation change with walls of concrete. It looks so bad.

Actually i never wanted to post here but i cant help it. Honestly i never get frustrated with this SC4 game that i love. I bought with my hard earn money. Played it zillion of hours from solo till married. What ever the game has to offer that fine. Nothing is perfect 100% bare with it. What i am frustrated is that still people whining/complaining about the game that they like so much, spend time more then their families playing, posting and youtubing SC4! Wow do i really get mad? No. Do i really really really mad? YES!!!! ~ Forgive me for my sincerity.

  1. Try running on hard. If you want a big initial treasury use the moolah command.
  2. That is moot. You get better development with police coverage.
  3. Trivial problem. I hate these damned things buzzing around. The police one drives me nuts.
  4. Actually, this one I think is a bug. On the other hand have you had a major traffic accident?
  5. If you want to flatten your terrain in advance (civil engineering 101), drop single road tiles in the spots you are going to build. If they won't place, don't build there. Make such spaces groves of trees.

1. I am playing on hard already. What is moolah?

2. Well, I don't have any police stations and my city is filled with $$$ industry, commercial and residental development. As I wrote in the "Police" thread.

3. So your choppers are not stuck on the roof all the time? That's weird.

4. I have seen cars ram each other and burst in flames. What does traffic accidents have to do with industrial development? Only kind of communting I see from some industrial areas are freight trucks.

5. I'm not sure what you mean when you say that I shouldn't build where a road won't place. I would need a road in the first place in order to get development there. All I know is that I prepare my hills in god mode with the tool which soften the landscape. Some houses stand on pillars or reinforced basement structures which looks realistic. In between those I see level ground surrounded by concrete walls.

What is moolah?

moolah is one of the cheats you can use when you download the Extra Cheats .dll.

4. I have seen cars ram each other and burst in flames. What does traffic accidents have to do with industrial development? Only kind of communting I see from some industrial areas are freight trucks.

It means there are people commuting to your industrial areas to work. Try simulating a month or 2 to see if it will show the commuter traffic in those areas.

I'm not going to cheat, I think it kills the purpose of playing a game.

Even after several in-game years I have industrial development which doesn't highlight communting traffic leading to my residental zones in the region. No green lines for cars, no blue lines for buses and no pink lines for pedestrians etc.

For example I have a few "cities" which only consist of agriculture but all I see is light blue lines (freight trucks) and it's the same with some of my dirty industry located far away from residental zones. Despite this I still see that the number of current jobs at these places are 16/18 etc. so it doesn't make any sense. It really makes me wonder if these agricultural cities serve a purpose for my region and that I'm just wasting my time filling the map.

No commuting from reisdental zones should mean no that no development can take place or it should lead to industrial abandonment. In general It's like there is no limit to how much industrial demand I see while my population doesn't rise. All that and the lack of communiting back and forth between residental zones makes me wonder if this is a bug as A Nonny Moose said or just something Maxis never managed to finish.

.

EDIT UPDATE:

I just did some testing on cheetah speed and I managed to reach a limit on industrial development so there is no bug when it comes to the balance between industry and population. Still I don't see commuting lines when the residental zones are far away from industry but now I can confirm that the areas still serve a purpose for job supply. You all probably knew that already but I just wanted to clear up on the suspicion I brought up about limitless industrial development.

Iv'e decided to make a topic where the People of simtropolis can get rid of thier frustration on constant things that happen in sim city 4. Like for example whatever you do keep making anoying repetitive movements throwing crap at you like: roads are doing well in sim city but streets are becoming endangered 26.gif A street is an Inanimate object! That DOESN'T EVEN MAKE ANY SENSE!? So have a blast posting your frustrations about sim city 4! 2.gif

^ Its a known bug. Try doing an in-game save (CTRL+s) when you've finished doing something you don't want to do over.

Traffic accidents mean that the route on which they occur is congested at that point.

The only thing about simcity 4 that bugs me is the random CTD.

Amen.

Unfortunately, it is a bug that can be fixed only in source language, and we don't have that. It seems to be either a miss in placing a pointer in a queue, or running over the end of the queue. A common off-by-one error in C programs that should have been fixed, but the program was rushed out the door my Marketing at EA, before any decent QA could be done.

I ran it for years without any of them, but the newer, faster machines and sneakier, more optimized operating systems seem to be doing something that was not found in testing before release.

It's sad, really. When I upgraded from a 5-6 year old desktop to a new computer with 8gb of RAM and a four-core processor, I was expecting lightning fast load times and the luxury of a relatively lag free experience, and the ability to run programs like media players and windows live in the background without my system falling to it's knees. Well, I guess I got that, but the annoying thing off the bat was the random crashes. What, my computer is too good for SimCity? I have to place the entire burden of the program on one core or else it goes kaput? It's a shame, it really is.

Nonny: with access to the source, how long do you think it would take us (or one reasonably skilled programmer) to locate and fix the bug that causes the CsTD?

We don't know if it is one bug or several. I suspect that there is something wrong with the human interface command queue. If it was just that, about a week including understanding the code. You don't need to understand all of it, just the part that fails.

A well written C program is in little packages that interact via a fixed interface. We don't know even how well written it is.

You know what I hate? ADVISORS! They were the biggest mistake to gamers maxis ever made! I hate advisors on sim city 3000 and sim city 4! I think sim city would have done well without advisors!

The 2 advisors I don't mind is the city planner and the transportation one.

Volcano will do if you trigger it on a mountain.

Plane crashes are out, because what can you do about them. They are also ne kulturny because of 9/11.

Forest fires do occur. You can get a random fire in your forest.

CTRL+ALT+Shift+o causes a nuclear holocaust with no survivors.

This is a building program, not a bloody shoot-em-up game.

Eh, the game was advertised in a way that suggested you chose between being a great mayor or a corrupt one, but I don't know many people outside those who run story CJs or similar that deliberately bring a city to it's knees. And considering the level of realism we've gone into with the game, many of the disasters outside lightning, fire and tornadoes are pretty unrealistic. However since I believe that's all hard coded into the game, it's not really in our league to start changing that anytime soon.
