The reasons for the slowdown were given in pretty good detail two posts above yours. Relax and enjoy the animation. There is no rush.

how about the city tree planting that takes forever to complete square to square?

Press ctrl+alt+shift, so you can plant trees for free on a larger scale.

Don't build Maxis airports. They are unrealistic. Take the time to make your own custom ones or use the ones from the BSC Functional Airports set.

You need to kick your lazy cops in the rump with this modd.

I will do that for normal simcity now and I also have the problem when using the simmars mod's spaceports.

What frustrates me in SC4? No full 3D mode. Imagine a great SC4 city from more angles. Maybe make it 8 or 16 angles. Either way, not a big deal. I made some great things on SC4 and it's one of the few games which I've kept on playing more than one month (seven years or so, in fact)

At the time it was written, it was not feasible. Now, it means a total rewrite, so don't hold your breath.

I've fixed the commute time with NAM and efficient mass transit. When SC4 first came out the traffic simulator was so unrealistic that I stopped playing until NAM really got going.

The thing I hate most about Sc4 is sometimes I will be playing for awhile, get a great city going then BAM! SC4 freezes then I have to restart my computer because it seized up my entire system. SC4 has done this 3 of my PC's. So now I save every 3 minutes. My ctrl+s is getting worn out!

Make sure there are no unnecessary programs and processes running in the background. It might stop the problem...

the to 5 things THAT MAKES ME WANA BRAKE MY COMP

5. UDI- its boring, slow, its point less i only use it to test out downloaded trans systems

4. city-to-city interaction- yes i think its great compared to sc2k and 3000 but i want more interaction with between regions

3. sc4 is great but ITS A CPU HOG its so relent to the hardware especially since it was made in 2003

2. bridges- is it ok nope its ocupide ok ... now no! WHY THE HECK NO! also we have diangle roads, avanues, highways, rail, ect SO WHY NOT ITS BRIDGES!!!!!

AND #1 OF ALL IS THE IN GAME TERRAFORMING TOOLS!!! UNREAL TO SMOOTH 3 DIFFRENT TYPES OF TREES PALM TREES IN A MOUNTAIN HOME

I am not afraid to push that glowing red button

5. No argument. It is a waste of perfectly good coding space and programmer resources. EA should be ashamed.

4. Thanks to wasting time on UDI, a lot of other stuff didn't get done. Did you really mean regions or city tiles?

3. It will always be a CPU hog. Did you ever write a simulation program? I have taught simulation programming, and the main loop is just sitting there going round and round, usually with a limit. This one has no limit.

2. See item 4 above.

1. The programmers were not civil engineers. Take a look at some of the SPAM extensions and other stuff over at Pegasus Productions.

I hope this is not how you represent yourself when you write for evaluation. You really need to get familiar with the spell checker.

I think I'll repost (because I haven't been active for a while, sorry guys, busy), the fact that I can't built roads frustates me. Every time I tried to make a road (street, ave, highway, anything) (about 50 tiles length), I always crash. Also, when building roads on elevated grounds, always crashes even by just placing 5 tiles simultaneously (drag). I want to expand my cities greatly, but how I'm supposed to do that if I can't even build roads? I know my computer isn't the problem, it runs modern and heavier games easily enough.

Oh, and if you don't min, can you rate a CJ of mine I've done in my laptop, thanks.

As a test, hide your plugins folder and try drawing some roads in your sandbox. If this works, you have a problem plugin. To hide the plugins folder, just rename it something like Plugins.old. The game will make a new empty one.

Commute abandonment is usually caused by a deficiency of jobs close enough, even with the NAM. It can also be a sympton of Sims aging out of the game (dying of old age), and not being replaced by younger Sims.

The commuter loop is a known bug, and since it is in the main code, we are not allowed to fix it.

It worked all right. Thanks for that. I think I'll use this "trick" to build the interstate highway. (somehow drawing on normal elevation has no problem.)

I guess the thing I hate the most is the lack of diagonal bridges. :whatevs: Theres not much for me to complain about at the moment since theres so many mods that fix things from the game.

I guess also is the rush it seems that went into the game. Leaving incomplete networks and a waste of resources to make the useless UDI (as said before) and the amount of cpu this thing takes up. Not much of my issues can be fixed so I just live with it. :)

That's another thing that frustrates me. The lack of diagonal support. No diagonal bridges, no diagonal neighbor connections and lack of support for diagonal buildings.

To get full diagonal support, you'd have to visit Diagon Alley.

CPU usage is the nature of the simulation beast. It is not at all wasteful. The CPU usage is an exponential curve as the city grows. It doesn't take much to get past the knee, about 250000 Sims on my system and things start getting slower. You can do other things while waiting. Keep a good book handy.

Why does everybody hate UDI its fun getting a military helicopter and blowing up ferrys and it allows you to see your cities up close.

In a word, the interface sucks. It is a "stick on" that was put in by EA's marketeers to help flog the Sims packages, and is, frankly, a waste of resources both in development and in use.

While the interface isn't very good its still a good idea and it cant have taken that long to put in and some people like it so it sort of worked.

That you can't build sideways. I could make my areas a lot more realistic if I could. I do love that when you have lots of flora, mostly from the Mattb325 houses, and you want to create a wildfire, you can very easily. It really travels across the whole city and burns it up. I don't like the lack of detail when things burn though, but the fire details are okay.

What is the big attraction with disasters? I don't do them, and avoid even accidental fires. Is it just a symptom of youth?

Nope, it's more like curiosity + need for adrenaline rush.

Anyhow, I'm thiking of releasing a new CJ, but still need more help developing the town. Anyone know where I can get diagonal and normal W2W ploppable and functional as either a a CS, CO or Residential with European style?
