The Giants may win the division, but like always, they'll choke in the post season.  They may have, IMO, the best pitching staff in the majors, but their offense is anemic.  I still think the Padres will win the divison and the Giants will be sitting at home watching the post season.

Object of a hitter is to get on base by any means necessary, if it takes a bunt to do that, then so be it.  It's up to the defense to be alert for that or any other trickery, if they're not, well then, that's their problem, not the hitters.

Don't get me wrong, Rivera is a great pitcher. But he is not "the greatest closer in the history of the game", or any other such overhyped nonsense. If he were pitching for another team, he wouldn't be getting half the praise he gets pitching for the Yankees and probably would have retired by now.

His most obvious flaw doesn't show in his stats: he's a one-pitch pitcher. Cutter, cutter, cutter, cutter, ad nauseum. It's a hell of a cutter, granted, but a major leaguer ought to be able to mix the speed of his pitches up. Otherwise hitters can just get into a rhythm. Foul off the strikes, take the balls, eventually he'll make a mistake.

Surprisingly, not many hitters seem to be able to do this against him. Probably because they get intimidated by the fact that they're facing "the legendary Mariano Rivera".

I disagree i don't like many Yankee players however i think both Jeter and Rivera deserve the praise and I'm not even a Yankees fan. Pettitte too IF he hadn't taken steroids. Only active closer that can compare is Houston Street but its far too early to gauge him. A-Roid is the most over hyped player that and Ortiz. J-Roll is too.

I'm with Larks. You just don't go for a bunt when a no-hitter is going on. That's been clearly illustrated by the fact that no-hitters have taken place to begin with. Somebody could have thrown a bunt into the mix during anyone of those. Furthermore, who bunts with no one on base? A precisely placed bunt can result in a hit but it better be darn precise and die when it hits the ground. Otherwise, you're gonna have dig it out like crazy just to get on base.

But if the batter bunts, then the batter bunts. No sense crying about it.

Edit: I'm assuming no one was on base... I didn't catch this game. If you've got a runner on base, nono or not, bunting is fair game. I guess I need more info before I make the call on this one.
