hi, i was wondering where i download the BAT program? I will try to find it more. I hope it doesn't too long for me to figure out. It seems kind of confusing. But as i soon as i get good enough, i would love to add to your collection of real landmarks, especially from Seattle, because i'm from there. Is anyone ever going to make a BAT of the 700 Louisiana in Houston, Texas??? I love that building! Thankyou, a response would be very appreciated44.gif

To download the BAT go to www.Simcity.com and click on the Cool Stuff button on the side of the screen from there you should be able to find your way to the BAT.1.gif Also, download the SC4 Rush Hour Update from that site, (if you don't already have it) along with the Lot Editor, Texture Plugin Fix, and the Plugin Manager. I would recomend starting with Phillippbo's Tutorial (which it looks like you already have!) I started with that and it helped me a ton! The BAT is diffucult as well as powerfull, however I do have some advice: DO NOT GIVE UP!!!! You may just be the greatest Batter in the Universe and you just have not found it out yet!!19.gif

Could anyone explain in better detail how to do the door frame and the window frames? When I select Collapse, nothing happens. I would appreciate help with this.

Hi.  I have recently decided to try my hand at batting.  I have read Phillippbo's tutorial, which seems very helpful.  I have all of the required programs, but I have run into a problem right away.  When Phillippbo refers to the Bottom Bar containing the X, Y, and Z boxes, my BAT program only shows the X and Y boxes.  Could anyone provide any insight.  I look forward to any help. Thank you.

I have been working on this titorial for over two months now, and still not past working on the left side of the wall with windows.  As you have guessed I am a newbee to this whole thing.  OK on with the question.  1.  When I am in the front view and make the complete wall, when I extrude it, the wall does not change.  It is transparent.  yet when I look at the other views it is yellow.  Am I doing something wrong?  2.  When I went to the left wall and made it, I placed the windows in it but the wall was right in the middle of the front and back wall, so the windows when I made them and extruded them the wall was still solid but the windows showed up on the other side.  Man am I screwed up.  Please Help if you can.  Thanks a lot.

I started work on a commercial building (Llama League Law Offices) that I hope to upload to the STEX sometime in the near future.  I followed the general guidelines listed in you BAT turorial (I adjusted the walls and such to fit my purposes).  I applied the UVW Map to the door but it didn't fill in like you show in your tutorial. While I know that not following Philipbo's tutorial exactly means that things won't come out the exact same, I should still see the UVW Map.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

Have you checked that the Show Map in Viewport button is pressed down in the Material Editor? If not, please do so, or the material wont show on the object.

I believe Phillippbo describes this in his tutorial in the general material walkthrough, before he actually shows how to apply the textures to the objects.

I love your tutorial and it's really helping me to learn how to use the BAT, but I'm having one problem. I'm in the texturing section of the tutorial.

I download your files and save them to the correct location but when I look for the texture in the Material Editor it says it's not there, so I tell it to show all types of folders but when it appears and I click on it, it says that it is an invalid file type. I tried extracting the files, and that lets me choose it, but then I can't click on the show background or display in perspective view buttons and the picture of the ball disappears and is replaced with a flat picture of the texture which I can no longer apply for some reason.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Hello, the same thing is happening to me; well not exactly the same, I don't have any problems locating the file or get the 'invalid file type' message, but as soon as I open the file, the ball disappears too and I can't apply (just like Sim1013 describes) Can anyone tell me what's wrong? and how can I stop this from happening so I can start with the textures? [...]

[...]Ok, I've figured out how to make the ball reappear (and enable the options)29.gif; but now I can't find 'grill_ofsq.bmp' or 'ovenpan_offsq.bmp'. I've re-downloaded the textures in case I forgot them when I extracted the textures but they aren't inside any of the .zip files (TexturesA.zip and TexturesB.zip) either
28.gif Are they available anywhere else? Thanks

In Your case, I would not mind if those textures are missing or corrupted. Just take another texture, You will find many useful textures in the official texture thread here: https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=46370 . I would also especially recommend this texture site with hundreds of super quality textures: http://www.planetquake.com/subverse/  (thanks to Loyalist for the tip).

Good luck bating!

Now this is going to be sort of off topic, I don't know the best way to ask this so I'll just come right out and say it. What has happened to Phillipbo, has he died?

I read on a feedback comment on the STEX that he had sadly passed away. I've had a look through this thread, admittantly not reading everything in detail and didn't see anything mentioned. Does anybody know anything about this?

Thank you

Well, I guess first I should say that the rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated.  Who knew there were rumors that I died floating around the internet?  18.gif

At any rate, I haven't been post on here at all in, jeez... (checking, checking) ...a year!  Good lord, how time flies.  At first I was taking a little break, then I started on other projects I wanted to work on (like a novel, some websites, etc), got busy with a boyfriend, lost that, lost and gained 40 lbs, had some personal problems, then the next thing I know I'm a year older.  Imagine my surprise when I logged back on and found out I won a Trixie award!  Yay me!

At any rate, I've been thinking about picking this back up again, but I'm not sure.  I've been out of the loop for so long I'd have a hard time catching back up, and I'd have to re-teach myself so many things.

At any rate, I thought I'd pop back in and dispel the death myth.  I am very much alive, such that it is, and just may come back from time to time...

Enough of my preaching, got a question, ask away!

First let me compliment you on a well done, well organized tutorial!  In the Getting it into the game section, refering to the capacity/demand ID's you mentioned there was more information at the Modding site.  I can't find any reference to those HEX values.  Could you point me in the right direction to find what those values represent?  I am having trouble with a waste energy plant, it starts loading up the city with huge amounts of waste.
    Thanks.

    BIWDC,

First, since You have got such a low resolutoin screen, I suggest that You maximize Your working view with button 1 (the same button will bring back the four views whenever You like)

Then, press button 2 and use this tool to pan around in the 3D view. Happy batting!

BIWDC: IF you are trying the tutorial and are trying to create a series of walls like the picture shows, then you are creating in the wrong window pane. It looks like you have drawn the rectangle in the top view when you want the object to be drawn in the front view. Unless what you are trying for is a floor, you have drawn it in the wrong pane.

And then you can try the button that Odd has shown you, although you want to make sure the pane you want to enlarge is highlighted around the outside of it. Hope this helps.

After you export the building, where does it go? 42.gif

If You run everything normally figured on a Windows PC, You should find the file in my documents/sim city/plugins. There (and only there) is it automatically located by the Plugin Manager.

I do not know really what could be wrong. However if You did not know, it is advisable to have a file name without any

Hi, I want to compliment on the amazing job on this tutorial. My first run through I've completed everything! I've exported the building, I've managed to build my own lot. I've managed to get everything but one things.

I HAVE NEVER SEEN IT! In-game it has been almost 1000 years of demolishing 2x3 commerical lots and I've seen every building a few hundred times and not the BAT building I just made. It's there in my plug-ins... Which tile set will this building grow in... and to encourage it's growth is there something I could do (like add it to a tile set) and how would I do that?

    fischtein,

    1. Maybe Your building is in the wrong growth stage? Open Your lot in the lot editor and check that it is assigned to a reasonable growth stage - 2,3 or 4 is fine I guess. If it is on a higher stage, go back to the plugin manager and generate a new desc file with less jobs.

    2. You could also try the modd that surpresses all Maxis buildings. This radically increases the chanses for BATs to grow. https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?mode=files&filetype=all&category=default&sortby=DatePosted&show=12&Str=tolomar

    Hope this will help You!

Just rotate the building using the page up or page down keys until it is facing the way you want it in the lot editor.

hyped_up_boy, The installer made a *shortcut* on Your desktop to the program. Use this shortcut to start the program, do not start the program by itself. Hope this works.
