This is a simmars thread for star wars buildings that fit in with simmars, the buildings have to go with the same guidelines for the simmars buildings including the ships.

Examples of star wars you may want to BAT:

Millenium%2BFalcon_thumb%255B3%255DThe Millenium falcon

death-star.jpgThe 2ºnd death star

deathstar.jpgThe death star

ht_VWing_Starfighter_070524_ssv.jpgThe starFighter

Episode_5_AT-AT_Walker.jpgThe At-At walker

There are lots of buildings too but I don't know the name of any of them!

images?q=tbncjbw5kK-xSFFM:http://bragewj.com/starwars/hothBattle.jpg" />

This building could be done so that it appears over the ice in simmars.

I'm not an enthusiastic of star wars but I know that the buildings woul! look good in simmars.

Hope you come up with other buildings and ships from star wars!

Star Wars or any other source reference can only be used as an inspiration for SimMars.

Designs cannot be directly copied as content for SimMars needs to be original and conform to the SimMars conept which states that SimMars is semi-realistic.

I know, I'm working on a star wars building, and it doesn't go with the guidlines for simmars buildings for the moment

It looks not very good, I need to ad some details to it and modify the base teture a bit. Hope someone comes with some ideas for it.

Give him a break I'm sure he only means good and besides I bet he is using Star Wars as inspiration for future Sim Mars projects.

Besides, its not like there are real Marsian buildings to start off with compared to Star wars or Star Trek.

Infact there aren't any in real life concepts to start off with whilst there are plenty of props for Star Wars buildings and Star Trek.

So you see, creating a Marsian building is purely guess work in itself because of no "REAL" existing examples.

The point here is that content needs to be original and not just copied from existing designs from movies etc.

As long as it's inspired by but looks different than the actual source that is absolutely fine. That's what I already said above.

Perhaps the Moisture farm could replace farms, and the moisture tower could provide water.

I've already made the more detailed eco base canon, sorry for taking a huge amount of time but I had the final exams of the month.

I'll show some fotos here today or tomorrow so that you can see it.

Simopolis, could you show me some fotos of those things?

I've made it better with more detail and put it over land, not over water.

    It is a landmark.

In Star wars, it was a canon to defend a base of a icy planet on movie 5, Idon't know how was it called, I think it was called ECO base but I'm not sure.

Comment on how I can make it better on textures, detail and other things.e11jun021273774152.png

Make it a water tower. You could infact, make it a water and power tower. The barrel could conduct the electricity and the base holds the water. And of course, make it so it gives off water/power.

As for textures, already suggested them in simchat

As andi said, SM is not Starwars.

Unless you got this form an existing real-life building and/or you imaged it. Then its completely fine, to BAT it.

The building that I've made has no textures, I need some textures before saturday so that it fits in with simmars. Maybe I release it today and not on Saturday, I'll post a picture on the thread of how its looking today.

Way too light, tone down your textures. btw, did you make them or used a raw texture?

You've got nice little project going here Gonzalo. I think its pretty orgininal and adds more to simmars

Hope you post more star wars inspired bat pics soon,

    Richard

That turret is way too huge for the platform it's on.

Is this what you were trying to do?

    mom_turret.jpg

You should probably stick closer to the film design so it looks more believable.

Also, if you're going to put it on a mars-like environment you should probably recolor it. The turrets were only white in the film for the purpose of camouflage.

Also, the planet was "Hoth" the base was called Echo

Ah, thanks, I'll reduce the size of the turret and make it black-grey instead of white, I'll show you a foto of it if I have time to modify it.

    Thanks cleaner

Mario man, I've made another ECho base with textures so that they look good on simmars and the base is less taller and a more cone shape on the turret.

    hey gonzalo,

it looks much better grey and smaller. My personal suggestions would be to make it smaller again by at least half (that one in the photo looks like it's about 3-4m high). Also your turret looks like a solid object, I think you really need to have that hollow so it has shadows and depth. Have you done any boolean extraction yet? You've made good progress in a short while, keep it up!

Thanks, I'll show you my smaller version.

    What does boolean extraction mean?

Boolean extraction is a method of taking one shape out of another shape. This is a quick tutorial I made for another thread. In your case the building would be representing the gun and the purple box representing the hole you want to take out of the gun.

However be warned... boolean extraction can make weird things happen so don't save anything until you know it's OK, *and always have a backup of your work anyway). It's generally best on simple shapes, like shown below.

Your other easy option is to make the initial turret a tube object rather than a cylinder.

Make a box a place it where your door or window will be, make it go right through the wall.

(or in your case a cylinder that will cover much of the radius of the turret).

    XQIRB.jpg

Select the building, select compound objects, click on boolean, click on pick operand B and finally click on the (in this case) purple box.

    EZ8Lb.jpg

This will remove the area that the purple box was covering, allowing you to add doors etc. The main advantage of this is to allow you to set back doors (or windows) a bit which creates some depth on a face of a building (very important).

thingfishs, when I take the cilinder out, the cuboid doesn't leave a gap like in the picture, it stays the same and adopts the texture that the cilinder had.

What kind of an object is the cuboid? (standard primitive/editable mesh etc) Did a dialog come up asking whether you wanted to merge textures etc?

This method will only work on some object types I think... sorry, but at least you've learnt something new for another time. You could still construct it as a hollow tube type object.

    Cuboid = box

The turret is already a tube, the inner radious is very little, that might be why it looks bad.

I realise a cuboid is a box ;-) What I was asking was what kind of gmax object is it? If it's already a tube then make the inner radius just a bit smaller than the outer and you should be able to see some shadow in it.
