It's incredible how you got the top floor to be like actual glass. youy can see the tables and stuff. You probably had a perfect score if iamrobk hadn't given you a nine because everyone else gave you tens. FOOL!!34.gif
[/quoteMESSAGE][/bEGINQUOTE]

WTF are you talking about? I gave it a 10. If you don't believe me I'm sure GrampaAl (the moderator) could see the scores everyone gave it.

Come on guys ... 9 or 10 or whatever ... the reality is that this is an incredible piece of work and by teaming up we managed to give it a rightfull place in the Game ... there is a PLOP for the people that like to plop and there is a growable for the purists ...

Let's not spoil this with accusations ... rather just enjoy the Lot and be glad that we have the opportunity to share it among us ... 51.gif

Jy het dit reg ... Afrikaans is nou verbind met Vlaams ... en dit is opvallend dat ons kan met die Nederlanders goed oor die weg kom sonder te veel misverstande.

This is why I don't rate anyting anymore.

I'm just fed up with the mindless flaming of people who give other ratings than 10.

Vlakhaas has the right attitude here.

The rating is not that important. People rate things based on what they like. They don't generally rate based on the work or the technical details or how closely it matches the prototype.

However, who cares about the rating really?
If it is recognized as a great work of art then the comments will bear this out.

And yes, I as moderator of the STEX can see who has rated what.

It is also a mistaken assumption that when you see a score drop, that the last person to rate the lot has given a lower rating. This is not true either.

The rating system has been changed a few times over the course of the history of Simtropolis to make as fair as we can as moderators, without generally impeeding the ability of the rater to give whatever rating they wish to.

So, when you see a score change, it is due to a calculation which does not necessarily mean that the last person to rate has made either a higher or a lower rating, just that the average or mean rating is calculated based on a formula. The order that the program pulls the rating data from the database to make this calculation may not be the same order as the ratings have been entered.

In fact you notice that the Stars don't even appear until a certain statistical numbrer of ratings have been made in order for the program to calculate the number of stars to give the work.

So, please don't be making accusations either here in the forums or on the STEX based on what you ASSUME to be the last rating given. You will often be wrong.

Now we all do know how to spell ASS-U-ME now don't we.

Nice job with this building to all who contributed... I haven't downloaded it yet, but from the screenies it looks like a LOT of work has gone into this.

BTW, I just visited emporis and I couldn't help but notice that the real thing has won an award... quite a notable one too - Best building of the past year...

I don't rate either...I just give comments, which I think are far more valuable, as well as less offensive to individuals who went to grade-inflated schools.

Honestly, with such a high caliber of work being more or less the norm here at ST, shouldn't the rating curve be less forgiving? Not that any of the leading BATers here ever do subpar work, but shouldn't ratings be icing on the cake, recognizing creations that are even more amazing than the other ones? What's the point if all the top ones are 10, and you suddenly jump down to 7 for anything less?

Anyway, excellent job on the Gherkin, Caliban. 1.gif I'm really glad to see this building in SC4.

I'd give it a 10. I usually rate things in several ways. What I like isn't usually a factor. If it is, then its a very small one:

If its a real building, I base my rating on how well it was re-created or the effort in doing so. This includes scale. If it's too gargantuan or miniscule, then its no bueno. Especially if I know the building well. I'm a big skyscraperpages person, and check their diagrams a lot. This helps with my own creations. Wording can help alleviate scaling demerits if it is stated in the description: Based on.....

If it is imaginary or an original creation, I base it on the skill and how well it was done.

Night lighting and how it works in the game are big factors.

Whether it is ploppable or not isn't a factor. Whether it has jobs or not isn't either. Whether it is a skyscraper or not is not a factor. Also, if I don't like a particular style, that also is not a factor. I shoot for realsim in my cities and Minimalist/International/modern boxes are part of reality.

The major thing that makes or breaks a good rating to me is whether it works in the game the way it is supposed to. I tend to rate after I've downloaded, but make exceptions in the case of Ed_Diaz or Dusk Trooper.

Just my 2 Cents/Centavos/Pence/Kopecs/Pfennings...

Actually all the floors are glass and there are about 8000 bits of furniture inside. Mainly because it looked stupid with a nightwindow texture but needed something to breakup the lighting.

As for the score I don't really care if it gets a 1 as long as some people are getting enjoyment from it, although I would like to see some appreciation of the effort Vlakhaas put it to make it functional.

As ever, thanks all for the great comments 9.gif

    Caliban,

Earlier in the thread you mentioned you might release that nice table/chairs dining set as a prop. Do you still plan to do that?

I haven't got round to sorting out what it needs to be scaled to in order to look right as a prop, but I've attached the gMax file if you want it.

On the STEX it is Swiss Re HQ ... search for Caliban and you will find it.

    thats absoloutely fab!!!

Supremely realistic, I see it all the time, its perfecto.

Now if only some people could make more British Scrapers (for Sim City 4) Like Citigroup, Centrepoint, Tower 42. And the upcoming 51 Lime Street, along with Heron, Minerva, 122 Leadenhall.

That Caliban search at the SC4D can't have been that good, because Caliban Lots BSC is the second item in the list; and while it doesn't say Swiss Re or the Gherkin outright, there is a pretty good pic of it.

I believe it is contained in "Caliban LOTS BSC" on the SC4D LEX (with the required dependencies of course)

edit: If my memory serves, it is configured as a REWARD LOT. It gets rewarded pretty early in a new city's development (at least using CAMeLot which I am now using on this region). It looks a bit out of place in a young city (it is quite a large building) but it works well and as the city develops it looks great and fits right in. It is a plop and not a growable in that release also as I recall.

Oh.. it also gobbles up a bunch (forget.. 2500 or so C jobs ($$?)) so helps to satisfy some of the high mid-level jobs needed as growth passes a certain level.. but for the same reason (ploppable jobs CAN give you real problems in a city if you overdo it) be cautious about using many of these "job providing" plop building of any type (not just this one).

I saw that but thought it was just a dependancy file 45.gif
