The Jets fined him $25,000 and have suspended him without pay for the rest of the season.

It remains to be seen if the league is going to do anything additional.

I know that it was rather despicable what this guy did, this guy isn't an NFL player with an all-powerful union to back him up.  $25,000 is probably a significant portion of his yearly salary and for most people that would be financially devastating to lose that chunk of change.  He should be punished, but within reasonquote>

This guy should have been fired and not be allowed to coach in the NFL again. as meg said  doing something like that is something you would not accept from a 5 year old why would you  accept that from a grown man? Just suspending him is pretty much saying your condoning his behavior. Doing something  like that should cost you your career.

I agree, EB.  and I believe the Jets organization itself should be fined.

People are giving this guy credit for stepping up and taking responsibility.   That is indeed a good thing.   But he was caught on tape; his options were limited.

I suspect the Jets are hoping that the league will see this fine and suspension as "enough" and as evidence that the Jets are dealing with the situation.   However, I'm not convinced that this was just a lapse of judgement.

Why were a whole line of coaches that close to the field of play in the first place?   The player was out of bounds but could have returned to the field of play had he not been tripped.   Clearly the coaches were in a position where they could impact his speed and path of travel even if they didn't touch him.

I hope the league reviews the tapes, not only from that game but from other games and see how the Jets coaches behave compared to other coaches in the league.

and if you are thinking that I suspect the Jets are a dirty team, you're right.   I wouldn't be surprised if the team was paying the fine for him.  which would be the same thing as no fine at all.

Such cynicism.  It is a "professional" sport you know.  If these guys behave this way what kind of model is this for our kids?  If the Jets do turn out to be a dirty team, then maybe it is time for another Black Sox scandal.

    {tongue-in-cheek}

There is nothing wrong with the Jets that getting a year or two to cool their collective Jets wouldn't fix.  I wonder if the league can suspend a team, money questions notwithstanding?  Your two reports indicate that the act was premeditated and some how the fans are starting to look like European football hooligans.  You'll notice that the sox became white in Chicago.  Maybe the new name for the Jets whould be the Crips.

Here is another example of coaching in another sport.  Good, in my opinion.

In case this link is broken (it is a news clip) the coach of a Peterborough, Ontario minor team pulled his team off the ice because an opposing player called one of his guys an N_____.  The league suspended the coach for the season.  Following the rules can be pretty hearless, eh?

Thanks.   MJD is on my team.  Since he is inactive this weekend, and all of the good RBs are taken, I went with his replacement.   So far, that hasn't proved to be a particularly good decision.

Right. I guess that's why GB won their last two games while Philly choked in theirs. Also, you do realize that only Pittsburgh gave up fewer points this season than the Pack did right?

Philly with vick would have pick apart The Cowboys if they had needed to win. As it stood the cowboys only scored once on offence.

GB has been wracked by injurys this season and have been so inconsistant one week they score 40

and the next the lose 7-3 to detroit. They will need to score more then 10 to beat Philly

That's your reasoning? You'll have to do better than that. Lets break it down shall we?

Philly with vick would have pick apart The Cowboys if they had needed to win. As it stood the cowboys only scored once on offence.quote>

Then why didn't they? What you're saying is that Philly didn't care if they won or not. I find that very difficult to believe as should you. Dallas may have only scored once on offense, but that's all it took to win wasn't it?

GB has been wracked by injurys this season and have been so inconsistant one week they score 40

and the next the lose 7-3 to detroit. They will need to score more then 10 to beat Phillyquote>

You also forget that the Pack have already beaten the Eagles this year and there is no doubt they can do it again. major weaknesses have been exposed on the Eagles offense that you can bet your last dollar that Dom Capers will expose. You're right on one thing though, GB has been inconstant this season, but then again, how many teams do you know that have suffered the amount of key injuries to it's starters and still make the playoffs? None.

Here are some more facts on the 2010 NFL season you may find interesting....

    Peyton Manning 91.9

    Matt Ryan 91.0

    Drew Brees 90.9

    Jay Cutler 86.3

    Mark Sanchez 75.3

    Matt Hasselbeck 73.2

    Charlie Whitehurst 63.5

The Packers lost their 6 games by a COMBINED total of 20 points.

The Falcons lost their 3 games by a COMBINED total of 27 points.

The Saints lost their 5 game by COMBINED total of 42 points.

The Eagles lost their 6 games by a COMBINED total of 46 points.

The Bears lost their 5 games by a COMBINED total of 56 points.

ouch.  Some of those combined totals are pretty low.

I'm still working on the bizarre fact that a team with a losing record is hosting a wild card game.   That's just weird.

btw, my fantasy football team won the league championship.   10.gif    I was hanging on by my fingernails but managed to pull through.

Packers-Do you honestly think that the packers are not playing good football? Sure, they're inconsistent, but that may also be due in part to the fact that we have to grab players basically off the street thanks to injuries (whoever this Walden guy on the team is, he's everywhere.) But also due to the poor running game. Depending on the opponent's run defense, that decides whether a agme is won by a landslide, a close one, or lost all together. Finally, DROPPED PASSES will kill this team next week if they do not work on them.

Eagles- Philly is not running smooth. The Eagles weaknesses are being shown everywhere on offense. Leslie Frasier and the Vikings beat the Eagles and picked at these weaknesses, like Vick's predictability and other such issues. But next week Sunday, the Packers should be able to watch the film and be able to take down the birds of prey.

Seahawks- How? Just tell me how. They are going to be lambasted, having the lastest game of the week, and the earliest game next week, not to mention they play the Saints. I see New Orleans winning large. but lucky Seattle, and a good job taking apart Sam Bradford's regime.

Bears- Lovee Smith was not in the right mind to play his starters. Sure, he wanted to keep the Packers out of the playoffs (A NFL Countdown announcer called them "Possibly the most dangourous teams that could be in the playoffs."), but one big pop to Hester by, say, Matthews, and it was lights out on kick returns and such. Also, at the start of the game, the 1 seed was decided, but I guess he didn't know that.

Saints-Inconsistent running game, sure. But watching part of the game yesterday, while getting a famous Kroll's burger at Lambeau Field, I saw hope for Reggie Bush in the playoffs. He's recovering, slowly but surely, and I can see him playing better soon. But is it soon enough?

    Patriots- One word. Brady.

Jets- Mark Sanchez, though not the greatest quarterback ever, is very much needed on the Jet's offense. Without him playing his best, the Jets have a very sluggish offense.

Finally, my last words are on the Colts- Nine straight years. How is it possible? Somebody needs to put the Colts back in the hot seat in the next few years. The Colts were injury battered and not 100% admirable, and Jack Del Rio did a good job getting the jaguars very close to the playoffs. Too bad he isn't coming back. I would like to see someone other than the Colts in the playoffs for the AFC SOuth division.

Aargh!!!26.gif The Seahawks do not deserve a playoff berth!!! They have a losing season for God's sakes! What is the NFC West coming to! I am a Steelers fan myself (woot woot) but I feel like other teams deserved this spot more than the Seahawks. For example, the Tampa Bay Bucs, a ten win team who audaciously beat the Saints. But alas, 'tis not how the playoffs work.

Coyboys take the easy way and Garret is now Head Coach.

I think Garret will make a very good Head Coach from a game manager and team manager stand point. He has the right temperament to lead the team, while he seems very intelligent in game planning. That being said, if we are to observe the Cowboys draft history on the offensive side of the ball since Garret first arrived and began having a say in player acquisitions, it becomes obvious that his scouting ability is not exceptionally good, but not too bad. In the last three drafts we have added Tashard Choice, Felix Jones, Martellus Bennet, Doug Free, and Dez Bryant. Not a bad haul, but outside of Dez Bryant, no one here looks to be able to perform at an impact level. They are merely solid starters all acquired with relatively high draft picks that should be expected to perform at least as much as they have (two 1st rounders, one 2nd rounder, two 4th rounders).

I think hiring Garret is the right move, but I think its crucial that the Cowboys acquire a very smart young defensive coordinator that follows the mold of recent successful 3-4 coordinators in utilizing aggressive, exotic blitz packages like Rex Ryan, his brother, or Sean McDermott.

some musings for improving the team this year...

We should draft Patrick Peterson with our first pick and stick him at free safety and then focus on filling our offensive line needs in the draft. We could maybe sign Jared Odrick, a good young player from the Baltimore Ravens, to replace Marc Columbo at right tackle. Also I think that we need to resign Marcus Spears because our defensive line was trash all year. They are supposed to stop the run and hold the line allowing Ware and Spencer to make plays in the backfield. They did very little of that. Stephen Bowen, Jason Hatcher, and Igor Oshanksy all dramatically underperformed this year ( of course that can be said for anyone not named Demarcus ware on the Cowboys defense...) Hopefully the Cowboys can right the ship in one offseason, but I'm not optimistic...

I hope he turns out to be a good coach since thier no other choice now

I was just for a wholesale coaching change. Cower to be specific and let him hand pick his coaches and have full run of all aspects of the team.

and let jerry book events at the death star. I know it was a dream but there was a chance Jones would come to his senses and relaize the Cowboys have only

ever had sucess with a strong coach. Landry,Johnson, Parcells.

NFC West is messed up, but my boys down in Qwest might pull off a rainy/light snowy upset over New Orleans. Saints haven't ever won a playoff game on the road. Let's continue this legacy of their's...lol.

"The Seahawks lost their 9 games by a COMBINED total of 159 points.".

As a Pats fan i'm going to say Green Bay is the pick in the NFC. They played the Pats real tough and it unlike the patriots two loses, where it felt as though the Patriots blew the game, it felt like the patriots were playing well the whole time yet they just barely escaped with a win. So kudos to Green Bay. Kuhn is a monster.
