Been working on tons of random cities lately and thought i'd venture back into developing a sprawling and diverse hand terraformed region.  Nothing ground breaking here stylistically, just a lot of my same old tricks on a large scale.  Going to do all updates from here on out, by committee, so let me know what you want to see, new region shots will be added as things develope/

Welcome back, the very abrupt border from suburban to rural environments is unrealistic, as is the lack of large parks in the city. However as an idealised city planner such as yourself it expresses your almost vector like city design exquisitely. I vote to see the urban suburban boundary first.

John.

Thanks, it fades a little more than can be seen in those pictures, but spot on.  As for the urban parks, again they're there, just hard to see, i'll get to that later.

Ohhh boy here we go back to 2006 thats wasssup!! What up alek, amazing region incredible terraforming my friend!! Can't wait to see more!!

I actually had a question also when you do your regions are you able to keep adding new tiles by altering the bitmap without having any effect on what is already developed? Or do you create just a huge bitmap and then develop it tile by tile?

it's a pretty tedious process that involves a lot of loading adjusting, saving and going back to region view to make things match up.  I'll try to get some screen shots of the process to document it a little better/

a little of both, i've never had an issue loading a bitmap in mspaint and then increasing size, though the direction of where the new tiles are added is always the same, might be worth experimenting.

anyways still in the process of fading the suburban/rural areas, starting to look a lot more realistic.

Been chugging along with terraforming and trying to improve the suburban rural blend, which is only about 10% complete and more obvious on the leftside of the sprawl.  I've included and thumbnail and full size region shot, the detail is much clearer on the full size.

That's so great.  I really can't say how much this site has meant to me.  SC4 is the only game i play and continue to play and only because of this site, the content, the inspiration, it's awesome, thank you.

FYI i am still building on to this region, quite a lot actually, i should update this weekend ....if i don't get bogged down doing taxes.  Remember back in the day, i'd do multiple huge updates in the same day, college was great, real life...not so much.

    Thanks again.

i've been doing tons of terraforming and it's a slow go, the region is much larger now, but i'll save that for another time, i have added a second metro area the region and have decided to focus more on parkland and a developed water front.   The actual city is done in the same spare no tile, concrete jungle with chicago style grid that i'm so fond of.

Tthe cities at border this have extensive seaport development and i'll show that next.

Also in the works is a regional airport, as you all know, i don't do airports, so this is a real work in progress.

Very nice city. The CBD looks very natural in terms of size and density, and the surrounds have a nice dirty urban jungle sort of feel. Your use and placement of the parks and recreation areas also seems quite natural.
