shinkansen1: You can get the WTC from the STEX. However, make sure you have ALL the necessary files and textures needed or else it won't work out right. Also, there are numerous conflicting plugins with that BAT, so make sure you are clean before you download.

chocolate_city: You mean me??? The turn (its not 90 degrees, is it?) is part of the WTC BAT.

crazyyaya:  That's HUGE!  Also, try to split up your Y interchanges a bit more to allow more space to change lanes between interchanges.

chocolate_city: It DOES go straight up and down.  Its part of the LOT for the WTC.

A new kind of image from me.  Its a "time-lapse" image of an interchange, showing its upgrades as the city increases in size.

As always, CLICK ON THE PHOTOS FOR FULL RESOLUTION (1440x900px)

    1.  A new interchange at the edge of a new suburb of the city.

    The image

    2.  As traffic increased on the highway, the city decided to upgrade the highway south of the interchange.  This is a construction photo in the early stages of the upgrades.  Development is also seen around the interchange.

    The image

    3.  The grand opening of the upgraded highway.  It doubles its lane count south of the interchange and features new connecting ramps.  The median was also reconstructed to house a barrier and high-mast lighting.

    The image

    4.  The area is now densely developed.  The highway will not be widened north of this interchange due to city budget constraints.  As a compromise, the city added 2 new connecting ramps in the northern section of the interchange to help traffic flow and upgraded the median to improve safety.  The highway was also resurfaced and turns were improved.

    The image

I hope you liked this "time lapse"!

    Keep showing us your interchanges!

    -Hal.

EDIT:  The last image wasn't uploading for some reason.  I have since re-uploaded the image.

this is a quickie y made earlier. it's pretty simple really. i just don't like the avenue on and off ramps. they aren't realistic at all 3.gif i think this is the way it's done in most cities. it includes two turnaround lanes (one in each direction) and continous right-turning lanes into and from the avenue. hope you guys like it.

    ^ Nice one!

    ----

Here's a sunken highway-sunken highway intersection, without on- or offramps.

    SHSH1.png

    ---

Well, this is not really an intersection, but I didn't really find a good place to post this: a sunken highway customs office

    SHSH2.png

    ---

Here's a roundabout: avenue - sunken highway interchange. It's not that clear; but the two bridges function as a roundabout together.

    SHSH3.png

    ---

Well err, another avenue - sunken highway interchange. This interchange is more eyecandy than functional. It's way to big for what it does.(but is does the job)

    SHSH4.png

    ---

Here's a split avenue - sunken highway interchange. It's functional and not that big. It can aswell be used for other intersections. (this one is a jpg)

    SHSH5.jpg

    --

Sorry for most images being .png's, will convert them asap.

I'll see if i can dig up that embanked - sunken highway interchange...

Here's some others (sorry for the pngs) and the double post.

    ---

    SHSH6.png

An Embanked - Sunken highway interchange. There's plenty of easier solutions to do this, tho.

    ---

    SHSH7.png

A perendicular(?) road to sunken highway on-off ramp. Can be used for avenue's, split avenues/double one-ways, or even ground highways.

    ---

As you may have noticed, these interchanges/onramps are all in non-developed area's. That's because I don't do city building that much. (I make interchanges for fun, then start another tile, and create another interchange)

Thanks all, most are indeed very eye-candy'ish, but they should functions.

    Here's two more:

    ---

    SHSH8.png

A ground highway - sunken highway interchange. Should do the job very well and doesn't have a big footstep.

In the background you see another interchange that I won't show off now.

    ---

    SHSH9.png

A nice ground highway with expressways - sunken highway interchange.

A bit big for what it does, but it can be made smaller (but then you'll have less tasty eye-candy..)

caspervg: I would NOT want to drive on those roads! All those sharp turns and merging in and out of roundabouts make an ideal condition for collisions because traffic is weaving in and out, going whichever way. Nice design though... It looks good!

Nekroosi: Sorry. I cannot see your images.

    Anyways,

I just discovered that there is a similar thread on SC4D for this stuff, so check it out if you want to!

tahill79:  you can get it to split like that by downloading the NAM.  Once you have it installed, go to your highway menu and select parallel ramps.  Press TAB until you find that interchange (I think its the last one).

I hope that answers you question.

Okay, so anyways, heres a BIG update on me.  I have been experimenting new ideas with tried and tested interchanges.  My results follow:

Images are compressed.... Click on the images to view them in FULL RESOLUTION (1440x900)

Nice work there, squidi!  Thats a cool application of the multi highway you have there!

I also noticed that only one car is using your 12 lane highway, now thats something you don't see in real life eh!

Heres yet another update from me.  RL is going to kill me the next little while (university is getting harder and my mid-terms are coming up soon)

So anyways, here they are.  CLICK ON THE IMAGES FOR FULL RESOLUTION! (1440x900)

Frontage road interchange.  I hate frontage roads with a passion, but do to space constraints, I had to build one here.  This is the only example of frontage roads I have.

squidi: Globes? Uh... I'm not too sure. I think remembering downloading them from the STEX on this site (sorry, that wasn't very helpful 3.gif)

However, the 2 lane highway is called the RHW (Rural Highway) network, and is also downloadable on the STEX (you will need the NAM and NAM: essentials files for it to work as well as the ANT plugin). Check the project thread (via my signature) for more information.

SC4WTC: Seems a little overboard, but oh well. Since you have a huge highway, it might be good if you had some cars using it (build a city!)

tahill79: Seems dangerous. 3 lanes merge into 2, then have to yield to another 2 lanes of traffic? You have a lot of space there, so I would suggest upgrading it to a stack interchange (in the NAM) to improve capacity and eliminating the weaving, making it a lot safer. It should fit without demolishing the lakes. LOL how did you get that boat in that pond?
