Some new stuff...

Some things have changed in Plainsport. First of all, one of the basketball courts has been upgraded and it can host now basketball and soccer games. Since then, more gang fights have been reported, because now basketball and street soccer players have to share their court.

It's strange we haven't seen Plainsport Middle & High School yet. Have you ever watched Dangerous Minds movie? The scenes inside are more or less the same but they happen in the 21st century.

One general pic, I don't usually take them, but it's necessary to show those tenements on its context...

Thanks mate

    Not many comments, what happened?

Mayorm: Thanks for your comment! You're right, Plainsport hasn't got a private school. Who could afford to take their kids there?

ComputerGuy890100: Thanks for commenting! I knew you're on the soccer side, I've read your blog here on ST a couple of times...

    Wafflesaregood: Well... You're welcome!

    --------------------------------------------------------

It's been tough days away of ST, guys. My router broke last Saturday and I haven't been able to update nor being on Simtropolis all the time I want. I've been around here when I've had some time, connected via Wi-Fi from my college or from my town library. This is the first update I make away of home, I've taken the pics with my "big" computer at home and copied them to a pen drive in order to plug it onto my netbook and update from the library... After that odissey, here's the update!

    58778707.jpg

Years and years ago, before the power plants, the industry and the corruption settled in Plainsport, this was a high-standing neighbourhood. Some of the manors can still be seen today, but only from the outside. Inside, the everyday heroin orgy has just began.

    73755572.jpg

The eldest here still say that the place where New Plainsport Project stands today was once a wineyard which provided the whole nation the best wine.

    41556241.jpg

Housing demand is still high in Plainsport because its cheap prices. This makes that, from time to time, small apartment buildings are demolished (and they tenants kicked out) to build larger tenements. Everything changes, even in Plainsport.

Damastius: Thanks for your comment! I make the blur effect with a picture edition programe, mine is ArcSoft Photostudio (the one that comes with an scanner), although the most popular ones are Adobe Photoshop (paying) or GIMP (free download).

Tysons4: Thanks for commenting! I like tiltshift effect, but IMO it is more to make a real-life pic to seem like a model, not my intention on this CJ.

    Smells Like Fresh Asphalt

Some major changes have undergone in Plainsport and I blame the NAM Team. Their outstanding work forces me to slightly remodelate some parts of Plainsport (nothing too radical, though) and adapt my building styles for the new things coming.

I'm proud to say this is my first RHW, I was waiting for the v4 to download it and learn to use it. I had tested the previous version some months ago, but didn't adopt it. Now I do.

Half of the city moves on during the morning, commuting to their jobs. The other half, stays at home, because the unemployed doesn't commute anywhere.

    77301629.jpg

Some time ago, here there was a trumpet interchange, but the industrial consortium lobbied for the supression of the interchange, in order to have some more space to build their factories.

    34691711.jpg

But except the highways, everything looks more or less the same around here.

    Nice one.

Well, even though I learned high design on university I never was able to get something presentable with the RHW

I just miss the two links in the T-junction in the third picture!

Awesome job. I think this is one of the most complete CJs on ST. You have displayed so many different SC4 skills in this CJ. 2.gif

The rust parts of these are pretty developed! I like this style and layout, it's very sprawl"y" and industrial.

    Great showcasing!

Nardo69: Thanks for your comment! Well, before upgrading the highways, I had been practising a little bit with the RHW, getting familiar with the pieces, the do's, the don'ts and this kind of things... I can't say I can handle the RHW perfectly, but when I was done with the upgrading I felt really proud.

DCMetro69: Thank you for your comment! As I do nothing perfect, I try to mix styles. Writing (on the other CJ's), photoedition, urban planning, BAT showcasing... A little bit of all...

BlondeTwiggy: Wow, thanks for commenting! I've been surprised of seeing a comment here from someone who has seen so many CJ's...

Archean: Thank you for your comment, too; glad you like it! As you see, this CJ has nothing to do with Detective Cabrera...

    The Wheels of Progress

    86469623.jpg

Things are changing fast in Plainsport this days. Some retailers cease their business, while new factories open their doors. With this plant, Plainsport has been confirmed as an industrial powerhouse.

    88221889.jpg

The Department of Transport recently forced Capitol City goverment to install some light poles near the interchanges, for safety reasons. They're high enough to avoid being broken by drunken people throwing stones to them.

    57580626.jpg

Plainsport Sports Association new field was completed a couple of days ago. They had been raising money for an eternity, but they finally have a place where people can sit to see the games and they don't have to clean of rubbish before playing.

No comments! What could have happened?

    Sunday Night

    40590718.jpg

This was a special night in Plainsport. Football fanatics had been waiting for this game for some weeks, and it is finally here. Capitol City was playing against their major rival, and everybody was at home or inside a tavern sitting in front of a TV. Football was lived with an special passion in Plainsport.

    96460476.jpg

Workers on the night shift had turned on their radios, from those gigantic Hi-Fi equipments to the one which comes with the cellular phone. Bosses had gone home some hours ago.

    28019036.jpg

On the city jail, prisoners were watching the game through a small TV, while the warden is praying on his bureau begging God to makeCapitol City lose the league. If Capitol City loses the game, there won't be any problems; but if they win, it's going to be a tough riots night...

haha I have seen a lot of CJ's... so I know a good one when I see it 3.gif  You are from Spain?  Or your profile says.. jaja I speak a little Spanish and would love to visit the country.  Anyway, I love the factories in the first update, so realistic.  hahaa, and that first pic in the 2nd update, all littered with trash 18.gif  How attractive.  Not sure what's up with the CJ section, it's a little slow, but do keep updating!  48.gif

DCMetro34: Thanks for your comment! Well, these two updates were kind of "Show us your RHW" like...

BlondeTwiggy: Thank you for commenting! Just a question, why visiting Spain if you can see an exact replica on some Tierra de la Oscuridad cities?2.gif I like all that factories, too; I'm used to have lots of high-tech industry on my "non-CJ" cities and I just don't look at dirty zones, so it's something special when I've to work on dirty industries here...

    Acid Rain

Sorry for the lack of updates lately, specially on Detective Cabrera. I'm quite busy this days and exams are very near; so I won't be able to update for 10-15 days... The storyline is getting twisted and I need time to think well what to do next. Meanwhile, I've downloaded the GIMP and I'm finally able to recreate some cool effects.

I have to thank ilikehotdogsalot for the excellent photoedition tutorial he has written on his (also excellent) CJ World.

    47b.jpg

A water curtain was falling over Plainsport this evening. Thunders had been resunding throughout Capitol City and lightnings were the only source of light illuminating the sky. There were no people playing basketball on the roofs today, and gangs were at home. Rainy days are calm days here.

    48bv.jpg

Rain was making a little steam cloud emerge from the water treatment plant; giving the whole zone a phantasmagoric feeling.

    49bn.jpg

The good thing of the rain is that it cleans Plainsport sky for a couple of days and its inhabitants can breath deeply; but the bad thing is that all this acid rain degradates buildings, making them even sadder places.

    Riots Morning

Now exams are over; I can fully dedicate to SC4 and my journals if my Summer job allows me to do this... I'll definately pay less attention to Plainsport as I've shown everything now, things are becoming a little bit repetitive. I'm building/planning two more ghetto cities with two different typologies, one is very small and the other is built on a large city tile. I'll be working on them the next week.

    43307001.jpg

The petrochemical industries had a mysterious glow that morning...

    12813584.jpg

... and the coal port was working by the piece.

    73468008.jpg

A couple of hours later, as something improvised, the riot bursted out; and this one was not one more riot. [sorry for the frame; I can't remove it]

    72125315.jpg

The antiriot corps are late and part of the neighbourhood is taken by the agitators. Twenty of them are arrested and one is killed; which establishes the bases for a growing tension in Plainsport and more violent riots on the next days.

As you've seen, this riot pics aren't taken from Plainsport; I'll show you more on the next update!

Don't worry too much that some things become repetitive after some time; I am hearing this, too, about my style. But noone can reinvent permanently the wheel, and if you get more or less specialized in one direction it's natural that you invest more time & energy in that direction than in others hence variety might suffer a bit.

However I prefer being excellent in some areas and rather good in others than just showing a stable under-average quality over all areas. 2.gif

I still love to see what you are doing with these LA river lots. I played around with them a bit on a (not shown) map, not bad but neither in the necessary league to show nor to be compared with your work.

Nice power plant in Plainsport. Self made lot or download if I may ask?I also love the story of the stadium - so if they don't have to clear the seats from rubbish someone else does it, right? Maybe they bring it to that big plant on the other side of the RHW

I am not a fan of photoshopping but I love that gray depressing rainy atmosphere. You can witness it in some parts of Istanbul, too ...

And the emergency frame, well, the only way of getting rid of it that I know of would be cutting out the picture ...

    Take care

hahaa I don't try to replicate any particular country's style (well, with a few exceptions) I just build the way I want 3.gif  how did you do on your exams?  Sooo good work here, isn't photo editing fun?  I love whatever you did to the pictures in the 6/13 update.  Oh dear, a riot!! those people look really angry.   awesome job, my friend!

Mayorm: Thanks for your comment, I agree the riot pics are too clean for my taste; but I was afraid to overedit them and lose the rioters...

Benedict: Thank you for commenting, glad you liked it!

Petrovar Ambassador: Thanks for your comment, hope to see you here again!

Nardo69: Thanks for commenting so many things... Let's see... Well, when I said "repetitive" I meant that I had to show more or less the same structures but with a different focus or angle; because the only way to have all the control, as you know well, is keeping the city small. But if it is small, you reach a point you run out of new places... The LA River project are one of the things I like the most, it is incredible how can they change an entire city in a few minutes. About the power plant(s) both are from SimCity Polska without being relotted, [link] and [link]. And finally, yes, I could have cut the pic, seems I went too fast...

BlondeTwiggy: Thanks for your comment and for asking, my friend! Exams went fine, all subjects passed! 9.gif I've had some time to practice with the GIMP and the effect you liked is Soft Glow, you can do it only with a couple of clicks; but I knew about its existance when I read some of the Omnibus tutorials!

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today I'm posting a mosaic. I have had barely no time to play the ghettos because I'm experimenting on new (for me) airport building concepts, but I still managed to do a proper update.

You're going to see DuQuesne, a tiny ghetto founded by shipbuilders and "ruled" by shipbuilders. Remember to click on the pic for full resolution!

Wow, this is definitely going to be my inspiration for the grimier parts of my city journal. This is excellent. Did you make the billboards yourself? If so, you should upload them to STEX, they would be a welcome addition 4.gif And you have an incredible wealth of realistic industries, GREAT...and those awfully dirty sewage lines...WOW! Keep this up! And point me to some files you use 4.gif.

packersfan: Thanks for your comment, I'm very glad you liked it so much! The billboards aren't mine, you can download them here [link] and here [link]. The first pack features some GTA world brands and the last one has some real life brands, it is a link for a Spanish website, just click on "Descargar". Furthermore, this CJ couldn't exist without the LA River Project, Bixel's Pencil Towers Pack, ardecila's El-rail-over-road stations, and SOMY's BATs, among some others. Don't hesitate on asking here or by PM if you want some links.

Benedict: Thanks for commenting, I hope the shipyards aren't the only thing you've liked...

British_Petroleum: Thanks for commenting, take advantage of the situation!

    The Aftermath

    60067503.jpg

The rebellion started on Plainsport Cemetery, some hours after the burial of Martin "The Yokel" Riddell; the 21-year-old boy dead during the riots occured a couple of days ago. Tension had been growing in Plainsport since the league finale, and it bursted out with fatidic consequences...

    20920807.jpg

At dawn, protesters met at the Community Center, the only well-cared part of Plainsport. The city was preparing for a new riots night, the most multitudinous one. Some minutes later, the first street waste containers were on fire.

    97934780.jpg

During the night, Plainsport lived the "serious" riots. The riffraff were carrying gasoline cans and lighters, and they wanted to be heard. The building dwellers were waiting for the firefighters but they didn't knew the firefighers weren't coming and the police were too busy putting up with the protesters who wanted to blow up the industrial oil containers.

    Finally, the city said "enough".
