Most me and my brother would build then they'd end up being used for something completely different soon after.

Edit: found it

Ha!  Well, most of us get this stuff when we're kids and sometimes have little choice in what brand we get.  I ended up with a package of Tyco blocks one time.  They looked almost exactly like actual Legos.  3.gif

    Anyway, more pics.  4.gif

Gotta love the 1970's orange carpet.  3.gif

Also, I just downloaded the virtual builder from lego.com and made a new boat.  9.gif

I can order it if I want now too.  9.gif  $60 is a bit steep though...

LEGO! Holy damn, they were such a damn good lot of fun.

I used to make lego cities on all of the tables in the house, they had some airports to link them all, self-made 2 story apartments, gas stations, pizzarias, cafes, side shops, post offices, police stations, self-made fire stations (had to make this one myself since I had so much lego already and my mum + dad wanted to save their money for a while on other things like TVs and furniture) and then, in one of my cities, a pretty big building which me, my brother and my dad built together with grey and blue bricks (I named it the "Infomaniac Tower #2", referencing the game "Lego Island". That is the only building which is still intact at the moment, its placed next to my wardrobe to remind me of the good old days).

I also had some other themed legos, like Rock Raiders, those ones were really epic. Pretending to mine stuff and reinact scenes from the video game version cutscenes.

Still got all the legos in about 15 boxes in the attic, dusty as hell I bet.

    EDIT:

I was in town a few days ago (London) and came across a toy shop, went inside, saw the LEGO part. The themes they do now are kind of...meh... the LEGO City theme I used to buy has now completely changed to police, fire, hospital, transportation and building. Where are the gas stations? Corner shops? Houses? Its not really a city without those things. Sure, you could make your own like I used to do, but it would be good if they made a few sets which were houses.

    EDIT:

Actually, I think there were some housing sets back in the 70s or 80s, where did they go?

Well that was the first image of it I could find. That company I guess just pretty much copies Legos stuff and sells it. I'm 99% sure what I had was the Lego version but eh, it was a long time ago i dont really remember. And you had a pretty impressive set up there Zel.

Do I spy the Octan Gas N' Wash Express in the back there?

That was one of the first lego sets I ever had. Apparently it's considered a classic now. 9.gif

Indeed you do.  A testament to our age difference.  That was one of the last sets I ever got.  3.gif

My first gas station was this one:

Woo!  My legos arrived!  I managed to do some refreshing of my old lego hydroplanes.  9.gif  (See first post for details)

    First up, before picture:

    legomilleramerican.jpg

    After:

    DSCF0245.JPG

Not much has changed visually, but I managed to replace a lot of legos that were old and damaged on it.

The next one had more dramatic changes.

    Before:

    legohydroturbineconfig.jpg

I have carefully designed it so that I can easily switch it between a turbine configuration or a Merlin configuration.

First up, the new turbine configuration:

    newturbinetype.JPG

For the Merlin configuration, I built a little engine to replace the cowling.

    b4engine.JPG

And now what it looks like with engine installed.

    legou3type.JPG

That was fun!  I want to make more boats but I need more legos...

I loved playing with Legos when I was a kid. I would estimate that I have around 75 sets, along with 4-5 big buckets. Legos back in the 90's were the best.

YES!!! Oh how I loved playing with Legos for hours a day. I would build towns and cars and planes and buildings. Everything imaginable, I built it. I wish I had some pictures of my creations... I had four large buckets full of them, and that was maybe half. I was addicted to these things. At my town library, they would hold a Lego competition every year, and of course, I would win. I LOVED LEGOS!!! It's a shame they stopped the competitions, however. I still get some of the Lego magazine, and I've noticed that they've gotten REALLY expensive from when I was little. If I could show you my Lego creations, your mind would be blown

I would never pay $60 for that.

If you want to do a little work but save some money, you can redesign your model in MLCAD, export the parts list, and try to buy the parts off of Bricklink. I am considering doing that to replace some missing parts for some of my old sets.

I've been sorting though mine and reorganizing them the last few days. I have five of those container things that you use to hold nuts and bolts with over 85 drawers. And that's just for the small parts. I have about 20 large ziploc bags full of bricks and larger parts. And I also have one of one of those mega tubs half-filled with odd random pieces that don't fit anywhere else lol.

All of that isn't including a house model and a model of one of the Blue Angels. I'm going to take the house apart but that airplane is my baby lol.

Ah the good old days, this post is making miss the 90's now! I used to have 1 gigantic tub filled with lego's just a bunch of various sets all jumbled into one. The last set I remember buying was this underwater expidition set, dont remember the name exactly but the good guys would ride around in bright yellow resarch subs and a large industrial looking base, while the badguys would ride around in vessles shaped as manta rays. However I rember when starfox came out for the Nintendo 64, I would always reconfigure that set and others and make starfighters and spaceships instead. Sadly I gave all my legos to my younger cousin, which he played with once and has been sitting in his attic for probably a decade now... 28.gif

This thread is making want to go get them back now!!!

    Well, those were the daze.

Today, I was cleaning out one of my sheds getting ready to move and I found my son's old box of legos, and a box of construx.  I gave them both to my volunteer driver for his grand kids.  He said they would play with them on this holiday weekend.  It is Victoria Day on Monday.

Who knows?  I got it from my mother and father who knew it from grade school, which would be around 1920.  They were both born in 1913.  The Victorian era ended in 1908, I think.
