New Amsterdam is the largest and most populous city in Dutch Columbia with a population of 7 million. It is often called "The City of Light" because of its abundance of lighting effects on its skyscrapers. The city was founded in 1723 and is the oldest city in Dutch Columbia. New Amsterdam is the business capital of Dutch Columbia and is the home of many large corporations and banks.

    1-1.jpg2-2.jpg3-3.jpg4-4.jpg5-5.jpg6-6.jpg

The New Amsterdam Riverfront is one of the most popular attractions in the city. Located in the middle of downtown the riverfront is lined with hotels and shops and has many plazas for events.

    1.jpg2.jpg3.jpg4.jpg

The Bank of New Amsterdam building is the tallest building in the Dutch Columbia and North America at 1800ft high. The building's main tenant is the Bank of New Amsterdam and also has offices for KHL, the nation's flag airline carrier. The building is located near the center of New Amsterdam and is on a peninsula where the river bends.

The University of New Amsterdam is one of the largest universities in Dutch Columbia. It is located north of the city and is in the Northside neighborhood near Batavia Park.

The New Batavia bridge is the main way to get from New Amsterdam to the northern neighborhoods of the city. The bridge is one of the most heavily travelled bridges in Dutch Columbia and is one of the symbols of New Amsterdam.

Well, in general I prefer rather "pure" Screenshots because I want to see Simcity not Photoshop.

But I like what you did with your mosaics here (something I should try someday again, too ...) and those lights on the bridge are just great!

Take care and don't forget to make backups!

    Constructive Criticism?

So I was working on this area of New Amsterdam called the Centraal Station District... original right? Then my dad decided to move out, probably too personal there.. oh well, so now I don't have a PC to play New Amsterdam on. But I came across some pictures of this district and I thought it would be cool to get some constructive criticism from you guys! Because well I do my CJ so people will read it and enjoy it so I might as well get some input from you guys right? Well enough of me babbling and lets get on with the Pictures!

    NewAmsterdamCentraalStation.jpg

Centraal Station was used as New Amsterdam's main station till 1912-ish when the North and South Stations were built and they abandoned this beauty. In 2000 the city came up with a plan to integrate it into the Dutch Columbian High Speed Rail network, which will be shown in a map a bit later. They sunk the HSR lines and tunneled them under the city and put them through the station.. I think its a good idea?

    NewAmsterdamCentraalStation2.jpg

The station is now the main terminal for the Dutch Columbian HSR along with Noorderstad Centraal and Zuidhaven International Station. Yay!

So I lotted the entire area.. did I do a good job? haha! 21.gif

    Map?

Here's the rail network map I promised earlier.. I think I did a good job on it?

Don't know about criticism... just to say that those nice little details are very much appreciated, like that old locomotive! It looks great and livens up the area 19.gif

And I really like those tents you used, they give a modern touch to the station.

One thing I noticed is that you've got lots of people near the station (backside), but none two tiles away. Could be nice if you would add some individual persons here and there.

Keep up the great work! Your CJ is very inspiring!

    My thoughts:

I appreciate that you used the wall to wall buildings correctly in your earlier pics. When I browse CJs a lot of the time I see the common walls of wall to wall buildings facing streets, or the ornamented side of the buildings to face the building next door. This is actually why I'm posting, but you asked for constructive criticism so:

I think that the new district looks good except that I think that the underground HSR station looks too big to be among those other buildings. And I don't mean the footprint is too big, or that it's too tall, but the scale of the details is too big. The facades of all of the other buildings, including the historical building, have a lot of small details (mostly the window frames), while the station has big broad details.

It sounds like the new buildings are the result of an urban renewal project, and that some old city fabric was demolished. If that's the case, in those situations it's common for them to avoid demolishing something like a church, which they would then sort of plan around, or perhaps celebrate by giving it prominence in the new plan that it didn't have in the original city fabric. Maybe it would be cool for this district to have a historic church or some other historic building among the modern ones as if this had happened.

    Jason,

Wow, thank you for the well thought out comment. I always thought that w2w buildings never looked good when their ornate sides didn't face the street... never saw them in RL like that either and never thought it really made sense to have them any other way. I'm a really big fan of your BATs and my cities probably wouldn't look as good without them! You and I seem to share an interest in art deco architecture.

For the station area I used the Denver Union Station Redevelopment  as a base for the redevelopment of my station. I did a lot of research and thought I could recreate something like this in New Amsterdam. I was thinking of having the station as the 'historical' building you were referencing in your post. I was never really fond of the train shed and thought it never really looked good in the area but I had to work with what I had. I would be cooler to have a shed like the planned one in Denver but again I will work with what I have until I can unless something better comes along.

In all I just wanted to type a little response to your post and thank you for it.

    - Clint
